Shoney’s® celebrates 65 years with three exciting
dining events in May!
Shoney’s All-American Burger™, Hot Fudge Cake and Strawberry Pie
featured as restaurant chain celebrates past and looks to a fresh new future
Nashville, Tennessee (April 24, 2012) For 65 years families have loved the Shoney’s brand. Now
during May, diners of all ages can celebrate Shoney’s 65th Anniversary by experiencing the fresh
home-cooked goodness and heritage of this great American eatery.
To kick off the month-long Anniversary celebration, Shoney’s will offer the signature AllAmerican Burger™ to dine-in guests for the amazingly, and symbolic low price of just 65 cents
on Thursday, May 3. “This is our best-selling, all-time favorite burger featuring six-ounces of
fresh, 100-percent ground beef,” said CEO David Davoudpour.
On Mother’s Day, Sunday, May 13, Shoney’s iconic Hot Fudge Cake is FREE for all Moms with a
purchase of an entrée or buffet. “Shoney’s serves over two million Hot Fudge Cakes each year.
To celebrate our history and to honor all Mother’s, we’re giving one away free to each Mom
when she dines with us on Mother’s Day,” announced David Davoudpour.
Capping off the month of festivities, dine-in guests can enjoy a slice of Shoney’s fresh
Strawberry Pie on Thursday, May 31, with no additional purchase required. The dessert favorite
is crafted from a recipe that dates back to the restaurant’s earliest days. “Every year, Shoney’s
serves over 500,000 slices of fresh Strawberry Pie. On May 31, I invite everyone to celebrate
with us and have a free slice of strawberry pie,” said Davoudpour.

These special events in May are Shoney’s way of thanking their longtime patrons, while opening
the door to welcome a new generation of diners. All special offers are available at participating
locations and while supplies last.
“We want to invite all of the families who have enjoyed dining with us over the years to
celebrate the Shoney’s story and, more importantly, welcome everyone to have a fresh, new
experience with our great American brand,” added David Davoudpour.
Shoney’s was one of the first family casual dining concepts in the United States. Its roots trace
back to 1947 when Alex “Shoney” Schoenbaum opened the Parkette Drive-In next to his
father’s bowling alley in Charleston, West Virginia. The popular “All-American Burger™ has been
a guest favorite since the late 1970’s. The loveable Shoney Bear® brand mascot was shortly
introduced thereafter in 1982. And the restaurant has been in the lyrics of songs from various
music artists over the years like Alan Jackson, Joe Diffy, Julianne Hough and even Jay-Z. The
popular Post-WWII coffee shop has continued to change with the times and is now a favorite
family casual dining destination with approximately 200 restaurants in 17 states across the
South and Southeast, reaching everyone from growing young families to retirees.
“Our goal is to consistently serve fresh, quality food featuring Shoney’s genuine homemade
goodness,” commented Shoney’s Executive Chef Will Eudy. “We have stayed true to our classic
recipes while introducing new menu items. In this way we satisfy the expectations of both our
longtime guests, and those enjoying Shoney’s for the very first time.”
The revitalized Shoney’s® family dining restaurant continues to plan for growth in suburban
neighborhoods and urban communities across the United States. “We are so proud of our
family restaurant heritage and look forward to serving guests the fresh, quality food they know
and love while keeping an eye on the future,” concluded David Davoudpour.
