Conference Brochure Aging Services Meets Silicon Valley: Creating the Future of Care November 14-15, 2013 Marriott Hotel – San Jose, California Presented By Oregon 2 | Agetech West Technology Conference & Expo WELCOME Dear Friends and Colleagues, I ’m thrilled to welcome you to this year’s AgeTech conference “Aging Services Meets Silicon Valley: Creating the Future of Care” – our fourth conference but the first as “AgeTech West.” It is fitting that there are several “firsts” this year to mark our expansion into a West Coast collaborative: it’s our first time in Silicon Valley, our first time as a 1.5-day venue, the first time offering pre-conference opportunities for attendees, the first time offering user-group meeting space for technology companies, and the first time holding a live “Pitch-for-Pilots” competition where you can sign-up to pilot test a new technology and host start-up founders as “entrepreneurs in residence”! We have educational sessions focused at service settings across the continuum – skilled nursing, assisted living, independent living, memory care and care at home in the community and 30+ technology solutions on exhibit. The conference begins on Thursday, November 14 with an optional tour to Silicon Valley tech rivals Google and Yahoo! including lunch in the Google Café! Doors open at 2:30 p.m. for time to mingle with technology exhibitors until the opening general session kicks off at 3:30 p.m. featuring a keynote by ‘rock star’ Eric Dishman, Intel Corporation, entitled “Inventing the End of Long Term Care: The Move to Personal Health”. The Pitch-for-Pilots competition comes next, where start-up companies selected in partnership with Aging 2.0 will pitch their technology solution to the audience with the goal of attracting pilot partners. You’ll then enjoy a hosted reception and wine-tasting with exhibitors. The conference continues on Friday, November 15th featuring two high-caliber general sessions, three sets of breakout sessions, and networking lunch with keynote by Thad Starner, the technical lead and manager for the development of Google Glass at Google X. AgeTech has established itself as the premier aging service-provider focused technology educational venue on the West Coast. Our aim is to empower Senior Living and Aging Service organizations across California, Oregon and Washington with valuable guidance, peer-to-peer learning, and the latest technological advances to create a new, more advanced consumer-focused standard of aging services. It’s the primary way AgeTech provides educational benefits to providers. Don’t miss this strategic opportunity for you, your staff and boards of directors. I look forward to seeing you in San Jose. Sincerely, Scott Peifer, Executive Director AgeTech West Agetech West Technology Conference & Expo | 3 GENERAL INFORMATION A geTech West is a collaborative founded by LeadingAge California, LeadingAge Oregon and LeadingAge Washington advancing the delivery of technology-enabled aging services toward a new standard of care. Opening General Session 3:30 p.m. – 5:30 p.m. Welcome by California Assemblymember Paul Fong, Representing the Silicon Valley Keynote – Eric Dishman, Intel Fellow and General Manager, Health & Life Sciences Group, Intel Corporation “Inventing the End of Long Term Care: The Move to Personal Health” “Long term care” is a phrase that is ambiguous as to age, so what if the LTC industry really delivered long term care more generally? Many providers worry about their future—will someone else cannibalize their service relevance or mission success through disruptive technologies and new business models? But that’s perhaps the wrong view—instead, what industries can people with LTC knowledge and assets cannibalize for themselves through disruptive technologies and biz models? Eric Dishman will explain how we need to reinvent current models of care toward a “Personal Health” model which is longitudinal, home-based, and coordinated, where whole-person care is the goal. Dishman will articulate what capabilities care providers will need to have in order to proactively make this transition or possibly be forced into extinction by other players. He will reference the Age Friendly Cities Agetech West Technology Conference & Expo | 5 work in China as an example of the “starting from scratch paradigm” for how to reinvent aging by first diversifying service streams and targeting multiple market segments. AgeTech/ Aging2.0 "Pitch-for-Pilots” Competition Katy Thomas Fike and Stephen Johnston, Co-Founders, Aging2.0 In this live-pitch competition, 10 early stage start-up companies from the Aging2.0 network will pitch their technology solution to the audience with the goal of attracting pilot partners. After the pitches, attendees will have the opportunity to visit with the start-ups at the exhibit tables, cast votes for their favorites and indicate their interest in piloting specific solutions or even hosting an “Entrepreneur in Residence.” Awards will be given for the crowd favorite and the start-up with the most interested pilot partners. In its ongoing partnership with Aging2.0, AgeTech will facilitate connection with aging service organizations for pilot testing, user acceptance, and other feedback to refine the solutions and foster adoption. Winners will be announced at the conclusion of the conference.
