Dozens of Hodag Country mountain biking and
hiking trails provide opportunities for every skill
level. Popular hiking and biking trails include the
Washburn Lake County Trail and the Rhinelander
Community Ski Trails. Road bicyclists will discover
that Rhinelander’s quiet roadways are perfect for
leisurely rides or extended bicycle touring. We are a
popular stop on the route of several annual bike races
and organized tours.

Outdoor Recreation
The Rhinelander area is a community that understands
the balance between work and play. Area golf courses
offer spectacular scenery and low greens fees—
including three courses within minutes of Downtown
Rhinelander. Two horseback riding stables offer horse
enthusiasts a chance to ride.
Parks abound in Rhinelander. Almon Park on Buck
Lake offers trails, a boardwalk and a swimming beach.
Hodag Park on Boom Lake is the perfect place to
swim or launch a boat. Pioneer Park is the site of the
Hodag Farmer’s Market and includes an ice rink and
the Historical Museum Complex. The Skate Park
features rails, drop-ins and a 12-foot roll-in ramp.

Rhinelander, you’ll find the 32-acre Holmboe Conifer
Forest Walking Trail.
Winter silent sports enthusiasts will find hundreds of
miles of forest trails in and around the Rhinelander
area. Area trails are noted for their excellent grooming
and varied terrain. Some of the most popular
groomed cross-country ski trails include the Cassian
Two-Way Trail, McNaughton Trail, Northwoods Ski
Trail, Washburn Lake County Trail, Rhinelander
Community Ski Trails and the trails at the Holiday
Acres Resort.

One of the top reasons people visit or relocate to the
Rhinelander area is the fishing and boating. Surrounded
by hundreds of beautiful lakes, the Rhinelander area
is a premier destination for boaters, anglers, paddlers
and watersports enthusiasts. Many Rhinelander area

motor rentals. Hodag Country offers some of the
best ice fishing you’ll find anywhere—Rhinelander’s
Boom Lake was the site of the 2010 World Ice Fishing
Championship and the North American Ice Fishing
Circuit’s Championship Series.
Paddlers can choose from hundreds of quiet lakes with
numerous launch sites. The Wisconsin and Pelican
Rivers offer a true wilderness paddling experience
and lake chains throughout the area offer endless
opportunities for canoeists and kayakers.

local snowmobile trails, which connect with thousands

can ride the Enterprise Trail System, which runs through

Logging Museum Complex
Downtown Rhinelander sits on the site of the
former Pelican Rapids Settlement, built in 1881. By
1892, the new community boasted the headquarters
for 40 different logging camps. Eight sawmills lined
the shores of Boom Lake. Later, in the early 1900s,
the paper mills became the main industry in the
Rhinelander area.

8,000 and is the seat of Oneida County. Our area has a
total population of over 20,000, and is the retail hub of
the Northwoods and portions of the Upper Peninsula
of Michigan. The historic Oneida County Courthouse,
