Caitlin Smith
Caitlin Smith’s reviews
say it all – her voice has
graced festivals, events,
albums, gatherings and
adverts for years. Smith
comes to life in the
twilight hours – much to
the delight of all.
Her Make Believe Band
Vanessa McGowan and Cy Winstanley are a
London born band that’s a masterful blend
of Americana fused with jazz, soul and pop.
While they may have had their roots in the
UK, they’re firmly NZ based now and already
gaining a following.
Paul Ubana Jones
Paul Ubana Jones has
toured the world
enchanting audiences for
decades. Born in London
to a Yorkshire mother
and a Nigerian father, he is truly a global spirit,
and has opened for Bob Dylan, Patti Smith and
Crowded House – to name but a few.
Brilleaux
This hard-edged Brit style rhythm and blues
band produces high-energy toe-tapping music
in the vein of Dr Feelgood, The Yardbirds and
the early Rolling Stones. It’s an excellent mix
of British R&B classics with exciting original
material.
Darcy Perry
Blend a little passion and
intensity from Perry, and add
a back-up band to match and
its pure magic. His albums
have garnered righteous
acclaim and his profound
understanding of the blues
means an electrifying stage
presence.
Jam Session
10 - 12 midnight
Mike Garner
It’s gritty and good – that’s the word on longtime blues musician Garner, who moved from
his British home to New Zealand in 1988. His
albums are treasured and live on stage he’s
simply admired.
The Ej Blues Trio
Blues to the bone is the promise from Ernie
White, Robert Matete and Bruce Cameron who
produce an even mix of original and covers.
BigWater
Kiwi surf rock at its best is a surety when
BigWater play. Pete Stewart, Trevor Herk and
Lincoln Wright are known for everything from
acoustic to fast rock, and will be bringing their
best English and American blues.
Government Cheese

Government Cheese brings a blend of dynamics
and ‘in-the-pocket’ music to the fest.
Wairoa Blues Band
Musicians with some serious
pedigrees make up the
Wairoa Blues Band. The
band came together for a
2008 festival via Panamanian
bass player Gabe Alvarez and
they’ve been solid
ever since.
Rich Alexander
One person, one guitar...
and a mighty following.
Rich Alexander is a popular
figure on the music scene in
Gisborne, Hawke’s Bay and
further, with his mix of Delta
blues, folk-style covers and
his own acoustic originals.
Ngariki Blues
Band
Take a pinch of
passion, a snip
of cheek and a
tonne of talent
and you’ve got the
Ngariki Blues Band. Comprising cousins Riki
Hawkins, Tawiri Tamanui and Eru Tamanui, the
newly-formed band will entrance all with their
blues and soul original covers.
Smoking Justice
Original blues rock
is the key to new
three-piece band
Smoking Justice.
Featuring Adrian Athy
with his uni-vibe foot
pedal, alongside Dave
Martin and Dominic Carroll, the band is proving
popular with local blues regulars already.
Ethniq Rootz
Jono and Hemi
The Maori heritage
of Ethniq Rootz
band members
Garth Tekira, Judah
Tekira, Peter Tekira,
Percy Robinson,
Ben Aperehama and Paul Anderson has a huge
influence on their unique sound and sense of
place.
Vicki Horsfall Jazz
Quartet
The musical chemistry of
performing live makes for
some special sounds from
the Vicki Horsfall Jazz
Quartet, featuring Horsfall
on vocals, Andy Atwill on
bass, Bob Jackson on guitar
and Bruce Cameron on
drums.
Auckland multi-instrumentalist Jonathan Henry
is a recent summer import from the big smoke
and is vibing the laidback roots and reggaeheavy local Coast scene.
The Killing Floor
Rock-edge blues
with a fresh feel
to it is the order
of the day from
this four-piece
new-ish band
that loves nothing
more than an
appreciative,
chilled-out audience.

lives and breaths rock and blues covers and
originals.
