(2014) Digital CRUPE Framing (2014) Digital
In less than one day, our mobile roll former can produce all the framing required for
a small house including walls, beams, ceiling and roof panels, even conventional
trusses for roofs. A team of 4-6 men can produce, assemble and construct a typical
100 m2, light steel, house structure in less than one week, ready for contractors to
complete all external & internal finishes.
CRUPE Framing elements are produced with our automated roll formers, which
are a range of compact frame production units that require only an electrical
power connection. All the frames, beams, floor joists, roof panels and wall frames
are produced in exact accordance with the architect’s drawings complete with
window and door openings, ready for simple assembly, using less steel while
minimalising margin of error.
CRUPE Framing machines are available for different sized C and/or U Sections ranging
from 75mm to 150mm webs and can work with a variety of steel grades and thicknesses.
The result is a very strong but lightweight frame that can be designed and manufactured
for single and multi-storey structures.
The CRUPE SP-Range roll formers
are totally mobile and provide easy
positioning anywhere in a factory
space or at the project site and made
ready for production in a matter of
hours after being commissioned
by our specialist team of Service
and Support Engineer/ Technicians.
The assemblies are inexpensively
secured with air-operated rivet guns
using steel rivets readily available at
most local markets.
The CRUPE MP150-HYBRID roll
former is not totally mobile, but can
produce C or U sections with 75, 90,
100, 140 or 150mm webs with a very
simple change of settings.

SP - RANGE USES:
>LOAD BEARING EXTERNAL WALLS
The CRUPEFRAME SP-Range consists of five
different machines, each producing a single-sized
section: CU75, CU90, CU100, CU140 or CU150.
These roll formers are light and robust allowing for
mobility to factories and onsite building locations.

STEEL FAQ
Our products are amongst the safest in
the industy, however general guidelines
should always be applied.
Here we list the most frequently asked questions.
For more specific enquiries, please contact CRUPE
Engineering and Design office in the UK or email
your local CRUPE office.
All powered machinery can be hazardous
to the people around them, and although
we have designed our machines to be as
safe as possible, you must still exercise
caution when operating them. We
recommend that you refer to our technical
manual before operating any CRUPEFrame
machinery.

1. How does the weight of a light steel framed house
compare to that of a traditional timber framed
house?
The steel frames produced by CRUPE are made
from thin gauge, high tensile steel, meaning that
the frames are approximately 1/3 of the weight of
comparable timber framing.
2. Has Light Steel Framing got a fire rating? What
happens in a fire?
Neither light steel framed construction nor light
timber framed constructions are subject to descrete
fire rating. Both require the application of fire
resistant linings and when these are applied, both
can deliver required degree of fire resistance.
3. Will I be able to renovate my steel frame home?
And how do I fix the steel-frame to an existing
timber frame when doing a renovation?

Yes. Since steel framing allows for larger spans,
the house can be designed without interior loadbearing partitions, making it easier for homeowners
to do alterations without affecting the rest of the
structure. Fixing the steel framing to an existing
object can be done using a number of traditional
methods.
4. Will vibrations loosen the screws or rivets?
No. All steel frames are designed and braced to
resist wind and earthquake stresses and the number
of fasteners is more than adequate to rigidly hold
the house frame together.
Furthermore, because the steel is dimensionally
stable, including around screws and rivets, they
don’t work loose over time as can frequently happen
with timber.
5. Does lightning affect a steel-framed home more
than any other, and is steel framing dangerous
when lightning strikes?
No. The steel frame offers better protection than
other construction materials because it is a good
conductor and provides many paths directly to
the ground. Steel creates a positive earth and the
electrical energy of the lightning is conducted
straight to the ground. All steel frames are required
to be earthed, thus lessening lightning effects since
any discharge is not released destructively within
the building as with other materials or framing.
6. Does the steel frame interfere with radio, mobile
phone or TV signals?
No. Electro magnetic waves pass through the
spaces between studs which allow the use of radios,
phones, and television sets in a steel frame home
without interference.
7. Can I alter a steel-framed home at a later date?
Yes. Additions are made in the same way as with any
other building system but with the added benefit of
original steel structures remaining straight and true
regardless of their age, making the job of matching
up the addition much easier.
8. Are steel frames noisier than timber?
No. Steel home interiors are remarkably quiet.
The exterior walls and ceiling are filled with thick
insulation, restricting outside noise. Traditionally,
wood contracts as it dries and at ambient
temperatures it expands, whereas a steel framed
home doesn’t creak at all – humidity variations and
temperature changes have considerably less effect.
