A WORD FROM YOUR PASTOR …

In light of the recent protests at Donald Trump rallies, we must ask ourselves what
the Christian response should be to his behavior. This is serious cause for concern,
Trump supporter or not. Even if you believe some of his inflammatory language is
unhealthy and unproductive to our nation and society as a whole, you still must
acknowledge his right to say it. The issue is the right to freedom of speech. Voltaire said, “I don't agree with what you say but I will defend to the death your right
to say it.” The way we combat speech we disagree with is not violence and anarchist behavior but exercising the same right of free speech. We don’t just defend
this right when spoken by someone with which we agree but recognize that protecting every individual’s right to free speech protects our own. Certainly there is
just cause for protest but when it infringes on the rights of those you are protesting,
there is a breakdown in the process on which our nation was founded. “Your right
to swing your fist ends where my nose begins” is often attributed to Oliver Wendell
Holmes, Jr. When the protest infringes on another’s right to speak and to be heard,
there is a clear constitutional violation.
As Christians, we should be increasingly alarmed at the acceptance of this trend in
our country. Freedom of speech is directly tied to freedom of religion. This freedom gives us the right to express our faith. Professing Christians must understand
that the gospel is inherently offensive. It calls disobedience to God sin and declares
that this sin separates individuals from God. Furthermore, it declares that the only
way to a right relationship with God is through faith in the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ. The gospel demands a fundamental change in a person’s life
through repentance and demands a life controlled by the God of the Bible rather
than self. As this message is found unpalatable by a humanistic, secular society it’s
possible, if not probable, that attempts to quiet those proclaiming the truth of salvation through Christ alone will experience attempts at censure or persecution. We
must always remember that the rights we have as American citizens are fundamentally given by God Almighty.

FBC Summit Houses for Sale
First Baptist Church Summit is accepting bids
for the removal of houses located at 1104
Baldwin St., 1201 Robb St., and 1208 Robb St.,
Summit, Mississippi. Sealed bids will be
accepted until 2:00 p.m. on Friday, April 29th,
2016. No real property is being sold. Houses
must be removed by July 1, 2016. Mover must
provide proof of insurance. First Baptist Church
reserves the right to reject any and all bids.

April Mission Journeys
FBC Summit Worship
Pastor, Bradley White
will lead a team of ten
to Nashville, Tennessee April 23rd - 27th to
work with the Nashville Rescue Mission
and at a local prison. They’ll also be part of
a recording and concert project alongside
Selah and Travis Cotrell. The team will be
commissioned at the end of both morning
services, Sunday, April 17th.
Sentinel Training
Faith-Focused Travel
Security Training is
scheduled Saturday,
April 16th, 8:00 a.m. 4:00 p.m. in The

sign up. Cost: $20 for FBC Summit Church
Members, $45 for Non-Members. Sentinel
Training is a must for those participating in
international mission trips this year or in
years to come. Also, with Sentinel Training
it‘s possible to receive additional funding
for individuals participating in any FBC
Summit Mission Trip.
