The launching of “GiVi”:
a day of celebration and pride at CRN
nother banner day for CRN: “GiVi”, a splendid steel and aluminium mega-yacht measuring 60
metres, the latest addition to the CRN family, took to the water on Saturday 8 th July with more
than a thousand people on hand, including a large number of children, guests of honour who,
equipped with hundreds of blue balloons and flags, took part in the stirring ceremony, greeting the impressive
ship. The vessel, the largest to be launched from Ancona in the last 6 years, lifts CRN to the prestigious
threshold of 120 steel and aluminium mega-yachts placed in the water. A landmark event not only for the
shipyard but for the entire Ferretti Group, and the crowning moment in a period of unprecedented commercial
success for CRN.
Present at the prestigious event, to which all of Ancona was invited, were the top management of the Ferretti
Group, including Chairman Norberto Ferretti and Chief Executive Officer Gabriele Del Torchio, plus the
Chairman of CRN, Lamberto Tacoli, and the Shipyard’s Chief Executive Officer, Gennaro Candida De Matteo.
There were also numerous well-known figures from the worlds of politics and business. With its majestic,
elegantly proportioned grey hull, the “GiVi” is a mega-yacht designed to hold up to 16 passengers and no
fewer than 20 crew members. A pair of Caterpillar 3516B DITA-SWAC engines propel the vessel at a
maximum speed of 16.5 knots and a cruising speed of 15 knots. The launching was a moment of pride for
all those who worked on the project, marking a major achievement in the history of CRN and of Ancona,
increasingly attentive to the field of super-luxury recreational vessels, a sector in which the country seat
has won itself an unchallenged role of world leadership.

na nuova giornata di festa per CRN: “GiVi”, splendido megayacht
in acciaio ed alluminio di 60 metri, ultimo nato della famiglia
CRN, è sceso in acqua sabato 8 Luglio, davanti ad oltre mille
persone e tantissimi bambini, invitati d’eccezione che fra centinaia di
palloncini e bandierine blu, hanno potuto assistere alla suggestiva cerimonia
e salutare la grande nave. Con questa imbarcazione, la più grande a scendere
dallo scalo dorico negli ultimi 6 anni, CRN raggiunge l’ambiziosa quota di
120 megayacht varati in acciaio ed alluminio. Un appuntamento straordinario
per il cantiere e per tutto il Gruppo Ferretti, giunto a coronamento di un
periodo che ha segnato per CRN un successo commerciale senza precedenti.
Al prestigioso evento, aperto a tutta la cittadinanza, sono intervenuti anche
i vertici del Gruppo Ferretti con il Presidente, Norberto Ferretti e
l’Amministratore Delegato Gabriele Del Torchio, oltre al Presidente di CRN,
Lamberto Tacoli e all’Amministratore Delegato del cantiere Gennaro Candida
De Matteo. Molti anche i volti noti del mondo politico e dell’imprenditoria
nazionale ed internazionale.
Maestoso nella proporzione delle linee dell’elegante scafo grigio, “GiVi” è
un megayacht pensato per ospitare fino a 16 passeggeri e ben 20 membri
di equipaggio. 2 motori Caterpillar 3516B DITA-SWAC spingono questa
imbarcazione ad una velocità massima di 16.5 nodi e ad una velocità di
crociera di 15 nodi.
Momento di orgoglio per tutti coloro che hanno lavorato al progetto, questo
varo segna un nuovo traguardo nella storia di CRN ma anche in quella della
città di Ancona, sempre più attenta all’universo di extra lusso della nautica
da diporto, settore in cui il capoluogo si è guadagnato un ruolo incontrastato
di leader mondiale.

and Development centre for the Italian boat sector
and one of the most advanced in the world, housing
the Ferretti Group’s Engineering Division and Research
Centre.

27 th Bertram Hatteras Shootout
he 27 th annual Bertram-Hatteras Shootout was proof once again that
the Sun never sets on the Bertram Empire! The major defeat over sportfish rival, Hatteras, enabled Bertram to regain its title as Grand Prize
Winner, despite being outnumbered in craft (26 Bertram craft versus Hatteras’ 35)
and without resorting to the “handicap system”, which is allowed if needed to make
up for the fewer craft. This traditional
challenge between Bertram and Hatteras
has become a legendary event in the
world of sport-fishing and is renowned
for being one of the top blue marlin
sport fishing tournaments of its kind.
The five-day tournament took place at
Marsh Harbour in The Bahamas, with
the Bertram 60’ “Wynsong” taking
home the honor of top individual boat,
and the overall Team Championship
was won thanks to the help of smaller
participants like Bertram’s 360“Moppie”, the smallest craft to take
part in the invitational. Victory was
caped when the team on board the new
version of the Bertram 630, with its
mezzanine and ARG system, hauled in
and then released two marlins on the
very last day. This win says much for
the sporting skills of the Bertram team
and, of course, the quality of the craft
themselves.

Shootout è stata l’ennesima prova che
il sole non tramonta mai su Bertram!
Le ultime nove edizioni erano state vinte da
Hatteras, l’acerrimo
avversario sportivo, ma
quest’anno Bertram è
finalmente riuscita a
riconquistare l’agognato
trofeo, nonostante abbia
gareggiato con 26
imbarcazioni contro le
35 di Hatteras e senza
utilizzare l’”handicap
system” previsto per la
disparità numerica.
Questa tradizionale sfida
tra Bertram e Hatteras è
diventata un evento
leggendario nel mondo
della pesca sportiva ed
è considerata la più
prestigiosa competizione
di pesca al blue marlin.
La cinque giorni si è
svolta nelle acque di
Marsh Harbour, alle Bahamas, e ha visto vincitore,
come numero totale di punti, il Bertram 60’ “Wynsong”. Il punteggio totale delle barche Bertram è stato anche incentivato dai “demonstrator”
come “Moppie”, la barca più piccola partecipante al torneo. La vittoria è stata, infine, consolidata dal Bertram 630 nella nuova versione
a mezzanino con sistema ARG che, nell’ultima giornata, ha pescato e rilasciato due marlin. Questa vittoria la dice lunga sulle capacità
sportive degli equipaggi Bertram e, naturalmente, anche sulla qualità delle imbarcazioni.

een first at Miami International Boat Show last year and
already a success on the market: MTU Friedrichshafen’s
2000 Common Rail yacht engine series. With the four
engine variants with 8, 10, 12 and 16 cylinders, the output ranges
from 1,200 to 2,400 bhp. Comparing the Series 2000 Common Rail
engines, it becomes apparent that MTU engines lead the way in
terms of power/weight and compactness. The excellent power/weight
ratio of these engines are due to the high output per cylinder and
the extensive use of light alloys.
Wherever possible, several functions are integrated into the Common
Rail engines in order to save volume and weight. One example is
the V-arrangement of the cylinders, which, together with the exterior
wall of the charge air cooler situated above, form the charge air
channel leading from the turbochargers to the charge air cooler.
The new Series 2000 works with MTU’s third-generation common
rail system in which an accumulator is mounted on top of the
injectors.This prevents pressure fluctuations in fuel line and has
the advantage that the injectors can modulate the injection quantity
precisely.
Furthermore the Series 2000 Common Rail engines
are equipped with a particularly powerful
turbocharger system in which two
turbochargers (on the 8V and 10V versions)
and three turbochargers (on the 12V and
16V versions) respectively are used.
Because of the sequential
turbocharging a more powerful engine
acceleration is ensured.

Control.
In addition to the engine controller
a system interface was developed,
which offers shipbuilders a wide
range of usage opportunities.

commerciale. Le quattro varianti di motore da 8, 10, 12 e 16 cilindri
sviluppano potenze comprese tra 1.200 e 2.400 bhp. Dal confronto
tra motori di Serie 2000 Common Rail, appare evidente che i motori
MTU si distinguono tra tutti in fatto di rapporto potenza/peso e
dimensioni ridotte. L’ottimo rapporto potenza/peso di questi motori
è dovuto all’elevata erogazione per cilindro e all’uso massiccio di
leghe leggere.
Ogniqualvolta è possibile, nei motori Common Rail si ricorre
all’integrazione di diverse funzioni per risparmiare volume e peso.
Un esempio è rappresentato dalla configurazione a V dei cilindri,
che, insieme alla parete esterna del radiatore aria di sovralimentazione
posto superiormente, formano il canale dell’aria di sovralimentazione
che va dai turbocompressori al radiatore aria di sovralimentazione.
La nuova Serie 2000 lavora con un sistema common rail di terza
generazione MTU, nel quale un accumulatore si trova montato in
alto sugli iniettori.
Ciò impedisce fluttuazioni di pressione nella linea
di alimentazione e offre la possibilità di
modulazione fine della quantità da iniettare
da parte degli iniettori. Inoltre, i motori
Serie 2000 Common Rail sono dotati di
un sistema di turbo-compressione
particolarmente potente, che prevede
l’utilizzo rispettivamente di due
turbocompressori (nelle versioni da
8V e 10V) e tre turbocompressori
(nelle versioni da 12V e 16V).
La turbocompressione sequenziale
garantisce un’accelerazione più
potente dei motori.

generazione del suo sistema di
comando elettronico dei motori per

OLLA Research is the research branch
of ROLLA SP PROPELLERS SA, a
worldwide leader in the design and
manufacturing of high speed propellers. It
provides hydrodynamic consultancy using CFD
(Computational Fluid Dynamics), which is used
to perform “numerical towing tank tests”.
CFD for marine applications has to provide
special capabilities such as:
• resistance curve in calm water over a large
range of velocities
• simulation of the sea-keeping hull motions
with specified incoming waves
• simultaneous computation of water and air
flow allowing for breaking waves and splashing
effects
• interaction of the bare hull and appendages,
between themselves and with the free surface
• interaction of the bare hull and appendages,
with the possibility to add a propeller disc under
the hull, with its shaft angle
• project verification of fully submerged propellers
and determine the Kt, Kq, ETAO data
• project verification of surface piercing
propellers, determining: the temporary loads,
the principle loads of thrust and the secondary
loads – vertical and horizontal.
Rolla Research has acquired the knowledge and
the competence to perform these simulations for
different kind of boats: displacement ships,
planing crafts and sailing vessels with
appendages.

Service University: the training goes on
ervice University, the training and refresher courses that the Ferretti Group has organised for its Dealer and Service
Point networks for several years now, will reopen in November. The aim is to offer our partners constant training in
order to make the service they give our Clients that little bit more special.
The training catalogue sets out a programme of about 40 courses, available in either Italian or English.
Every year, thorough analysis of feedback from previous courses, with input from providers and service managers, enables the
training programme to be altered according to the needs of participants and also to technological and commercial breakthroughs
adopted by the Group. It also means that the courses are not limited to theory but include many practical elements and visits to
the shipyards.
Among the new additions to the 2006-2007 programme are specific technical courses provided by Apreamare and Custom Line.
The courses will continue to be divided into two areas, managerial and technical/professional, and according to the type of trainees,
whether they are Dealers or Service Point managers or technical staff at Service Points.
The 2005-2006 training programme was a huge success, with the participation of more than 400 managers, technical staff and
sales representatives from Dealer and Service Point networks all over the world. Seminars took place from November to March,
offering participants a wide, comprehensive range of training options.
We forecast a 30% increase in the number of people taking part this year, as a result of the interesting new courses on offer as
well as the success this initiative has enjoyed within our Dealer and Service Point networks and also the growing commitment of
the brand service managers who coordinate the activities.

i aprirà a Novembre la nuova stagione Service University, la scuola di aggiornamento e formazione professionale che il Gruppo Ferretti organizza da diversi anni per il
suo Dealer e Service Point network al fine di rendere sempre più qualificato il servizio offerto al Cliente finale.
Il catalogo formativo prevede una struttura didattica composta da circa 40 corsi suddivisi in un’edizione italiana ed una inglese.
Ogni anno un’attenta analisi dei feedback ai corsi precedenti, uno studio con fornitori e service manager permette di variare l’offerta formativa in funzione sia delle esigenze dei
partecipanti che delle novità tecnologiche e commerciali introdotte dal Gruppo. Consente inoltre di rendere i corsi non solo teorici, ma ricchi di esercitazioni e visite ai cantieri.
Tra le novità nel programma 2006-2007, la partecipazione di Apreamare e Custom Line con corsi tecnici dedicati.
E’ stata mantenuta la scelta di suddividere i corsi in due aree, manageriale e tecnico-professionale e per profili dei destinatari, Dealer, titolari di Service Point e personale tecnicooperativo dei punti assistenza.
Con oltre 400 partecipazioni tra titolari, staff tecnico e commerciale di Dealer e Service Point provenienti da tutto il mondo, l’edizione 2005-2006 della Service University è stata
un vero successo. I seminari si sono susseguiti da Novembre a Marzo per fornire ai partecipanti un’ampia e completa scelta formativa.
Per quest’anno prevediamo un trend di crescita di circa il 30% delle partecipazioni, sia per l’interesse dei nuovi argomenti, sia per la risonanza che questa iniziativa sta riscuotendo
all’interno del nostro Dealer e Service Point network, sia per l’impegno sempre crescente dei service manager delle brand nel coordinare queste attività.

Marine Equipment Trade Show (METS)
ETS, one of the most important European trade fairs
for components, equipment, products and services for
the nautical industry and megayachts, will be held from
14th – 16th November 2006 at the RAI Exhibition Centre in
Amsterdam. This increasingly more interesting appointment
provides marine professionals with the best, most updated
information available. The DAME Awards are presented each
year. A jury, which includes Mr. Frabetti, Vice President of the
Ferretti Group Engineering Dept., selects an overall winner from
the categories present. The DAME Awards places emphasis on
all elements of design innovation, i.e. how well the style,
construction, functionality and level of innovation have been
balanced in a given product, which must also be original and
user-friendly. All these aspects are considered in order to assess
its overall performance.

i terrà dal 14 al 16 novembre, presso il RAI Exhibition
Centre di Amsterdam, il METS, una delle fiere Europee
più importanti per la componentistica, le apparecchiature,
i prodotti e i servizi per l’industria nautica e i megayacht da diporto.
Risulta essere un appuntamento sempre più interessante, fonte delle
migliori e più aggiornate informazioni per i professionisti della
nautica. Ogni anno viene consegnato il premio DAME AWARDS; una
giuria, di cui fa parte anche l’Ing. Frabetti, Vice President Ferretti
Group Engineering Dept., seleziona un vincitore assoluto tra tutte le
categorie presenti, sulla base dell’innovazione di design intesa in
tutti i suoi aspetti, ovvero il grado a cui lo stile, la costruzione, la
funzionalità e il livello di innovazione sono stati considerati meglio
bilanciati nel prodotto. Originalità e facilità d’uso sono altri importanti
aspetti tenuti in considerazione per valutare l’intera performance
della novità presentata.
