WHAT THEY ARE
SAYING ABOUT THE
CLASSICS
The new GIVI luggage set is the

to set up a custom bike with up

similar to a true tourer. The
Yamaha XVS950 Midnight Star
used for this trip, and equipped
in this manner, was appreciated
by many bikers at the rally in
Lignano Sabbiadoro. Here are
some of the comments:
Aldo. “I have attended different editions
of the Biker Fest, because I organize
concerts with my American semitrailer.
The GIVI bags that I see mounted
on the Yamaha are a great idea and
provide plenty of space. The idea of
mounting one on the front is not bad ...
as long as there is a way not to scratch
the fender. I am very careful about the
finish on my bike!”
Lello (harleysta). “I’m curious
about everything new, but if we’re
talking about my Harley, the look
must always be right! I prefer my
bags with fringe, much closer to
my way of being. I’m not denying
that these bags are really nice, but
I’ll go anywhere with two leather
saddlebags and a good cargo net...”
Fabio (harleysta). “I have a GIVI
helmet and these bags really intrigued
me. They really seem to have a large
capacity. And they also seem very
practical to mount, dismount and carry
around.”
Daniele and Ilaria. “Of course we
know GIVI, we are from Rovato, and
these bags are really nice.” Ilaria is a
fashionable girl who loves custom, she
smiles: “I can put lots more clothes in
there. The backrest is a dream of mine
so I could travel more comfortably
and safely. The seat of my boyfriend’s
Sportster is really skinny.”
Marco, Lucio, Stefano.
Marco: “I have a custom Yamaha, too.
These bags are very nice, but the back
bag does not seem to be extendable. It
would be useful for longer trips. “ Lucio:
“That’s an interesting idea to combine
fabric with leather. Of course, our world
would like everything to be leather, but
that way they seem less delicate to me.
“ Stefano: “I don’t have a custom, and
when I travel with my friends in the end
I have to bring their stuff too ... This
luggage set solves the problem: I could
travel lighter and then maybe finally
find room for the luggage of a girl!”

TRAVEL IDEAS
Friuli Venezia Giulia has many places to visit for those seeking alternative routes and solutions to travel on two wheels, for those who love
the cities of art and those who love nature. Here are some ideas:
• Literary routes on the roads and in places that inspired the great works of Italo Svevo, Umberto Saba and James Joyce.
Routes from among the classic Trieste Cafés of the central European tradition.
• The not-to-be-missed ride on the Opicina Tramway, the historic hybrid funicular and tramway cars established in 1902.
Visit the Grotta Gigante di Sgonico, the largest tourist cave in Europe.
• The itinerary which from Palmanova, Aquileia and Grado arrives in Trieste, to discover the coastal karst. This is a long and winding route
along the coast where you can enjoy a breathtaking view overlooking the sea.
• Visit Palmanova, Aquileia and Grado which we left behind us quickly to go directly to Trieste. Here we find the wild nature of the karstic
coastline, a long and winding path along the coast, ending in Trieste in a breathtaking panorama.

A JOURNEY THROUGH HISTORY
This region was an area of great battles during the two World Wars because it was a border area. Here then is a
route where we cannot forget our history:
• The theme park of the Great War of Monfalcone, an outdoor museum on the conflict.
• Osoppo and the Museum of the Great War of Ragogna: great for the truly knowledgeable. Free with FVG Card
• The Sacrario di Redipuglia (military grave), a huge monument that represents a deployment of troops with the
commander at the head. It holds the remains of 100,000 soldiers who died in the conflict.
• The Risiera di San Sabba, the Nazi concentration camp in the city of Trieste declared a national monument.
• The Foiba di Basovizza (cave), a national monument and symbol of all the atrocities committed at the end of
World War II and by Tito’s armies in later years.
• The imposing defensive line of the Medio Tagliamento scattered with ruins and forts.
• Alpe Adria Militaria, exhibition of military objects (second weekend in June and October).

Slovenia.
The SP76 road crosses the Altopiano del Montasio (Montasio plateau) to
reach Bovec running along the shores of Lake Predil. It is a high mountain
environment with the inevitable Montasio PDO cheese.
From Bovec, travelling along the river beside the main road SS206, we return
toward Pulfero and Cividale del Friuli, capital of the Lombard duchy and leader
of the interregional project for the inclusion of the Lombard sites of Italy in the
UNESCO World Heritage List. Here we discover the Friuli salami flavoured
with garlic, ham cooked in vinegar with onion, and gubana, a traditional sweet
filled with nuts, candied fruit and spices. At this point our route runs along the
border and we encounter two major cities: Gorizia and Trieste. Gorizia or Nuova
Gorica is the frontier town, the “Nice of Friuli” because of its palaces, villas and
melting pot of cultures that make it unique and unrepeatable. In contrast Trieste
is a rather old acquaintance (already visited in another trip), but its refined and
composed image, its multiethnic spirit and its gaze looking out towards the sea,
make it the perfect landing place for this slow and tasteful trip ... Classics!

Stories on two wheels
MARCO’S VICTORY and the wild dinosaur dream: Heroes, do not annihilate yourselves/ Editore Fucina, Author:
Claudio Marcello Costa / 400 p. / Price: 30 Euros.
Divided into two parts, the book was initially created as a reinterpretation of the legendary exploits of various pilots and
sportspeople united by the desire to push themselves to find their limits (Mick Doohan, Loris Capirossi, Wayne Rainey, Alex
Zanardi, Shoya Tomizawa, Marco Pantani and, last but not least, Simoncelli himself). A week after the delivery of the manuscript to the editor, Marco died. As a result Claudio Costa took the manuscript back, added over a hundred pages, and
changed the title. The second part of this publication recounts times spent with the pilot, his family and the people close to the
champion who died. The book can be purchased from the site of the Mobile Clinic.
ONE MAN CARAVAN / Editore Elliot, author Robert Edison Fulton Jr. / 288 p. / Price: 18 Euros.
The reviews say it is one of the best motorcycle travel books ever written. We agree. The trip takes place in the 1930’s riding
a Douglas through 22 countries, from London to New York, passing through Europe, the Middle East and Asia. Eighteen
months of cultures which are different, hidden and at the mercy of the unexpected. The plot in brief: The 23 year old Roberto,
to impress a girl, announces “I want to go around the world on a motorcycle.” Little did he know that a table away sat a
representative of the historic British brand Douglas, who immediately said he was willing to finance the enterprise. Thus this
stunning novel begins by chance. The book is hot off the press and a must read.
STEVE MCQUEEN: IMAGES OF A LIFETIME / Editore Gribaudo, author Yann-Brice Dherbier / 192 p. / Price: 45
Euros.
This is not really a new book. The choice to include it in this selection is due to its content. A journey in pictures (very
beautiful), which traces the fate of an out-of-the-ordinary man. Through its pages you will discover the life of this
extraordinary actor loved by motorcyclists around the world. The text is in Italian and Dutch, hardback cover, the format is
26x30 cm with 180 black and white and colour photos. It is the story that begins in a reformatory and ends on the big
screen, from the occasional odd jobs to the status of highest paid actor in Hollywood, to the car racing circuit at Le Mans...
THE MANUAL OF MOTORCYCLE SAFETY / Giorgio Nada Editore, author Claudio Angeletti /
240 p. / Price: 20 Euros.
Safety is a topic that is increasingly taken seriously. This useful publication, which reveals how to deal with road hazards
joins the many inputs for bikers coming from many different directions. The author, Angeletti, put his personal experience
on paper and shows, through the use of graphics, photos, practical tips, etc., those strategies to implement when you
climb aboard. For both beginners and experts, the book clearly explains the characteristics of the motorcycle and
equipment, driving techniques and strategies to adopt when facing traffic on two wheels.
100 YEARS OF ITALIAN MOTORCYCLE / Giorgio Nada Editore, various authors / 312 p. / Price 48 Euros.
This is a great book, and even “full-bodied” given the number of pages, images (550) and the large format (26x25
cm.). The subtitle says: A CENTURY OF HISTORY, TECHNOLOGY AND SPORT and is based on a list of 100 bikes
for 100 years. The book was published last year on the occasion of an important anniversary: the 100th anniversary
of the establishment of the Italian Motorcycle Federation. The pages intertwine unforgettable moments of sport and
companies: Italian motorcycles are indeed the absolute stars of the volume which contains many images and text by
various authors (all very competent).
ENDURO SCHOOL DVD / Mondocorse / duration: 80 min. / Price: 14.90 euro.
A training DVD produced in Val Brembana to present the enduro riders, beginners and amateurs, with driving techniques.
Tullio Pellegrinelli, World Champion and Italian Champion 14 times, offers his experience as federation instructor to explain
the correct driving position for all types of obstacles. Mika Ahola, champion pilot, offers his contribution revealing the
secrets that led him to become one of the most titled champions of the world scene. The course is fun, instructive, and
enables viewers to learn many things.

LITTLE GADGETS FOR BIG TRAVELLERS. EXTRAVAGANT AND TECHNOLOGICAL
ACCESSORIES NOT ESSENTIAL TO THE SURVIVAL OF THE MOTORCYCLIST WHO LOVES
ADVENTURE, BUT USEFUL, AND ABOVE ALL ABLE TO ADD A TOUCH OF EXTRA COMFORT
WITHOUT IMPACTING THE WEIGHT AND SIZE OF LUGGAGE TOO MUCH.
ATC9K ACTION CAM HD.
This small video camera from Oregon Scientific is to be attached to the helmet or the bike, to record a
high definition short video on your own. In addition, the “little” camera takes 5Mpixel pictures too! It has
an LCD display, a small sensor that measures the force of gravity during acceleration, and is waterproof
to a depth of 20 metres without the need for an additional case. It records up to 32 GB on MicroSD. See
the videos on: http://atc.oregonscientific.com. Price: 279.90 Euros.
GORILLAPOD SLR-ZOOM.
Many of you are already familiar with these two-tone (black/gray or black/red) “tripods” which are
able to assume multiple positions and hook on just about everywhere. The SLR model is suitable
to hold a camera or video camera with a zoom lens weighing up to 3 kg. It is great on the road:
lightweight, compact, stable and flexible (it can be transported easily). In low light conditions it
becomes essential. It can be found on the web and in specialized stores (prices ranging from 40 to 50
Euros). To see all models: www.joby.com
GIVI S310 – TREKKER LIGHTS.
This is an additional pair of halogen headlights for motorcycles. These are definitely “cool”
accessories but there is no doubt about their function: they help increase vision (and
make riders more visible) at night. They are mounted on the tubular structures of the maxi
enduros and tourers. They are equipped with a switch to be placed on the handlebar and are
connected to the vehicle battery in a simple and fast manner. Retail price 130 Euros.
SCRATCH MAP.
This map can be found in well-stocked bookshops and of course on the web. What is it? It is basically
a poster to hang up with an extra feature. The world map has a gold layer covering each country. The
mechanism is identical to that of lottery scratch cards. It is an original idea that helps you to have a
quick overview of the places visited and share it with friends who come to visit. Price 27.50 Euros.
22
GIVI S950 - UNIVERSAL GPS HOLDER.
This holder is universal and quick release. It can be attached to tubular handlebars with the robust
bracket that comes with the kit (with quick release). It holds a GPS or Smartphone with integrated GPS
system and satellite navigation software and displays horizontally or vertically. There is also access for
external cables.
The outer shell is semi-rigid, and the device is equipped with a practical rain cover (included), which
guarantees an effective barrier to water, without interfering with use. Retail price 50 Euros.
CONTACT 2.
This is a tent “for motorcycles” which is compact, lightweight (38x15 cm closed - 2.6 kg) and
able to accommodate two people plus luggage. It is called Contact 2 and is manufactured
by the Italian company ANDE. The material is treated to protect against UV rays and
has taped seams. It is made of polyester, has a fly, a net and nylon fabric opening, and
duralumin poles. www.ande.it. Price not available
HANDPRESSO.
You can stop wherever you want to stop, even in the middle of nowhere, and prepare yourself a true espresso.
Handpresso is environmentally friendly and does not need gas or electricity. It works like a bicycle pump. It
uses the same coffee pods that home machines use. It is lightweight (460 grams) and compact. The photo
shows the travel pack with thermal carafe and set of 4 cups with a bag. Price 128 Euros. Distributed by Evviva
Company (www.evvivaonline.com).
ECO-FRIENDLY WATER-POWERED CLOCK BLUE.
Produced by Bedol “http://www.bedolwhatsnext.com/bedol-m-85.html”, this alarm clock will be
appreciated by those most attentive to environmental impacts ... because it works with tap water. Just fill
the small tank with water and you’re set for 12-14 weeks of accurate timekeeping; the perfect gadget for
those travelling along the coast. It is very small and costs very little (19 dollars).
Buy it on the web. (www.bedolwhatsnext.com)
TAT7 IPHONE SCUBA CASE.
This is a case that allows you to take Apple’s Smartphone 4/4S even to 30 metres of depth. It is
therefore more than capable of protecting it from rain, dirt, desert sand, moisture, shocks, etc. It is
made of high density polycarbonate and stainless steel by the American company TAT7 and can be
bought on Amazon for about $85 US.

GIVI
News
GIVI POINT - THE NEW EXCLUSIVE SPACE
Created initially in Malaysia, where the company has a production centre for the Southeast Asian markets,
GIVI POINT now lands in Italy. Here users find all the brand’s products in its two existing sites, in Bergamo and
Modena.
GIVI POINT MODENA
The space was set up inside the well-known specialised centre
ORAM. The owner, Mr Mauro Bolognesi, willingly accepted this
new adventure: he has already had a relationship with GIVI for 25
years. He says that “I am in tune with GIVI. GIVI is professional,
precise and attentive to the continuously evolving two-wheel
market. The realization of this maxi-corner, inside of my shop,
has enabled due publicity to be given to GIVI products presenting
them in a tailor-made context”. In fact, the GIVI POINT offers the
customer a rather complete idea of the brand’s current catalogue.
ORAM has become a point of reference for riders not only from
the Modena area. Bolognesi says he has achieved this result
by managing his centre like a business. “We must keep pace
with the times, follow the trends and talk the same language as
customers. Up to 3-4 years ago, everyone wanted leather suits.
Today customers want to dress more fashionably, and seek offers
that are not immediately identifiable such as technical clothing. He
said that the same goes for accessories: as well as being efficient,
they must have a nice design. Communication must also follow
new rules: the Internet cannot be ignored... After-sales service is
also very important: assisting customers over time is my policy.
These are all strategies necessary to develop customer loyalty,
along with special initiatives, technical support and the kindness
of staff”.
Bolognesi’s expertise and his direct and privileged contact
with many customers encouraged us to ask if he has any
24
recommendations for GIVI: “Given that we’re talking about one of
the companies that make the rules, with great modesty I would
recommend considering a line based on colours. It is obviously a
matter of taste...”
The owner of ORAM has never stopped riding bikes. We asked
him to tell us an anecdote from his past on two wheels. Here it
is: “I remember during my first motorcycle trip in Corsica with the
famous Yamaha Tènèrè which I had bought used two or three
days before I got a flat in an area far from residential areas. Not
knowing what to do I rummaged in the case and found, to my
surprise, a can of “inflate and repair”. The person who had sold
me the bike, very wisely, had left it there. Thanks to that gesture I
was able to solve the problem and continue. “
The editors would like to thank Mauro Bologna for his hospitality.
He and GIVI POINT await you (via Emilia Est 935 - Modena).
GIVI POINT BERGAMO
This GIVI POINT was inaugurated in April and is an elegant
showroom + workshop for the servicing and assembly of
components. The owner, Yari Astori (owner of the brand
MisterBiker.it), explains how his relationship with GIVI began.
“When I received the GIVI POINT proposal I evaluated the pros
and cons and I concluded that it was worth trying. Usually it is
risky to combine initiatives that lead to working with a single
brand. But in this case I had no problems with the idea. GIVI’s
seriousness and the quality of its after-sales service are not in
The opposite page shows two images of GIVI POINT MODENA, above and below, and a look at GIVI POINT BERGAMO.
question. GIVI was extremely available to us to start up and we are
happy. “ Astori’s “point” got off to a good start. At the moment, the
customers come primarily from the city of Bergamo but the current
and future initiatives will expand the area to the whole province.
“We are currently in the throes of the SCRAPPING HELMETS
campaign. Customers who bring us an old helmet of any brand and
buy a GIVI helmet will receive an attractive discount! This initiative,
which will continue until late spring/early summer, has brought
and will continue to bring many motorcyclists/scooter riders to our
centre.
Unlike other specialized shops, where GIVI is usually present with
just a part of its range, Astori comments that “Those who are
interested in equipping their bikes with quality accessories will
find everything here, even the technical support for installation.
Certainly, a customer might not choose GIVI because he or she
does not like the shape or colour of a product, but not because it is
lacking!”
Soft bags, rigid cases, top cases, helmets, various accessories,
windshields, fittings, technical assistance and assembly ... What is
the ratio between motorcyclists and scooter riders in Bergamo?
GIVI POINT responds that their clientele is mostly city scooter
drivers with some maxienduro owners interested in the elegant
range of TREKKERs and several Harley riders who have already
asked about the new Classics bags.
“If it is of interest” says Astori, “I would add some data on helmets.
The helmet scrapping campaign brought the same percentage
of male and female users into the store. The city riders are in
fact numerous in Bergamo. Customers really like the new GIVI
composite fibre jet helmet (20.5, editor’s note), followed by the X.09
modular and there are great expectations for the technical jet X.03.
Some of my clients have already reserved one.” Astori’s response
to questions on how innovative fastening systems like Easylock
or Tanklock are regarded was interesting. He said “Italian riders
do not like to see a flange mounted on the tank cap. They never
ask for it as the first solution for mounting the bag. We find that we
must explain it well and show it to customers to help them really
understand and appreciate the level of comfort that the system
provides, only then do they come to appreciate and choose it.
In short, it takes time. Something that is not always possible in
multi-brand stores”. As we did with Bolognesi at ORAM, we also
asked Astori to formulate a request for GIVI, taking into account
his experience in the field. “I’d say I’d like to see a helmet in the
range dedicated to younger riders. Currently there are no colours
that deviate much from the classic colours and lines. Surely I’m not
saying anything new. I imagine GIVI has already thought of this... “
We send good wishes to Yari Astori and we invite you to visit him in
via San Bernardino, 67 in Bergamo.

THE DOUBLE LIFE OF THE ... TOP CASE!
We met Silvano Levantini, owner of the famous ALL MOTORCYCLE RACING store in Rome. We were struck
by the Trekker top cases, used as containers for helmets, positioned in front of his new space dedicated to
motorcyclists: TMR Village
Mr Levantini, you are pretty well known among Roman
motorcyclists. Would you talk about your relationship with
the motorcycle world, but as an enthusiast, not as a dealer?
We understand that you have had a history in racing. Is it
true?
“I really can’t define my relationship with the motorcycle world
except to say that I feel an integral part of it. I have always been
part of it and have lived it intensely. I cannot focus my point
of view as an enthusiast, however, since there are historical
roots reaching back to before I was born. And even my racing
past follows the same route: first through the experiences of
my family and then in person, as a pilot, giving me lots of little
satisfactions.”
We understand that you are not the type who likes to have
idle hands. What project are you working on? A place for
motorcyclists? Is there a move in the air?
“You have learned about the recent opening of the TMR VILLAGE
right? It is a thematic space, dedicated to engines. Currently
the work is in progress. When it is completed it will include, in
addition to H24 Drink&Food, an important sales component
including parts and accessories for bikers and more.
Rather than “moving” I would speak of innovation and I would
like to stop there. I have many ideas to develop and today it
would be premature and simplistic to reveal them. Maybe later
...”
through its products. If there is just no way to avoid the question
I would encourage R&D to increase their attention to the range
of helmets where I see potential for growth”.
Rome is a city with a really large number of motorcycles
and scooters in comparison with Milan. Has this somewhat
mitigated the crisis in the sector?
“No! Or rather, until last year the crisis we are currently
experiencing had not alarmed me. Since the beginning of 2012,
Rome and its huge fleet have been hit by the recession and this
is reflected in all related businesses”.
We thank Silvano Levantini for his enthusiasm and his desire
to always go forward with new projects ... even when the signs
say to stop. Maybe he’s got just the right recipe. We send him
greetings and wish him “acqua alle corde” (a Roman saying of
encouragement in the face of adversity dating to 1586, literally
“water on the ropes” that we believe fits like a glove).
Talking about ideas: How did you come to use the GIVI
Trekker top cases as “containers” for the helmets,
positioning them in front of H24 Drink&Food?
“There is a saying that says ‘make a virtue of necessity’.” I
followed that. I thought it was a good idea don’t you? If you too
noticed...”
For how long have you collaborated with GIVI? What ideas
have you formed about this company?
“I have been collaborating with GIVI for about 10 years ... but
I’ve always known GIVI. Quality, organization and simplicity are
the elements that have made it solid and a leader in the sector of
bags and cases for motorcycles.
We understand, you do not want to compromise yourself”.
As a user, as well as a reseller, have you got any criticism for
or requests to make of GIVI? Maybe some interesting ideas?
“It’s hard to criticize GIVI, let alone give advice given its
positioning and the great experience that it has always shown

HOW TO DRESS THE BRAND
Sweatshirts, polo shirts and t-shirts, ideal for leisure wear, and other useful
accessories like hats, key chains and sunglasses.
This is the GIVI merchandising clothing line.
Presented to Italian retailers in 2012, this line
actually represents the evolution of clothes
and accessories made by GIVI for the
Malaysian market.
Malaysia is home to the GIVI manufacturing
hub for South-East Asia. The weight of this
presence (this is the first Italian company
of importance in this country) is such that
over the years a real collective phenomenon
has been created around the brand. Actors,
anchormen, singers, professionals, in short,
many of the people who matter and who
drive a motorcycle or scooter on the streets
of Kuala Lumpur recognize the appeal of
“Made in Italy” in GIVI products. This interest
led the Italo/Malaysian management to create
a line of clothing and products which identify
the brand some time ago.
In Italy, a similar level of fanaticism toward the
merchandising of a corporate brand (even the
most noble) would never exist. And indeed
it is not with this spirit that GIVI has decided
to introduce some clothing and accessories
based only on their brand in the Italian
market.
The arrival of this line should be viewed
in a wider context, composed of actions
that are intended to give more visibility
to GIVI products in the store, to aim for a
different service with respect to competitors.
Merchandising is an activity which since time
immemorial has been part of the cultural
baggage of those who manage a store,
starting with the Greek emporiums. Today
the competition is such that to defend one’s
identity various promotional activities must be
pursued.
It is therefore a line of products destined for
dealers, for the staff of their shops, who by
wearing them will create an active and not
passive presentation of a GIVI product.
And the motorcyclists/scooter riders
interested in becoming an owner of a t-shirt,
a sweatshirt, a polo shirt, or a pair of glasses?
Well, for them the only road is to “bribe” their
dealer.
Moreover, this line has its strengths: it has a
fashionable cut that reflects Italian style, is
made with excellent materials, has sizes for
men and women and offers the added value
of being “just for a few”. The GIVI logo is
displayed prominently on the sweatshirt and
more discreetly on the t-shirts. The colours
are those used by the company.
THE NEW GIVI MERCHANDISING COLLECTION.
The sizes of the clothing are custom for men and women. The sunglasses have
polarized lenses, fit under a helmet, and are equipped with a top case shaped case.

Distances do not count. When the eyes start dreaming it is too late, the dice

motorcycle is an instrument of freedom and using it is a duty. The incentives
to embark on a great journey are many and they hook you even before
anything has been structured with the aid of books, stories, documentaries
set in faraway lands, photographs, stories of friends ... In short, all those
inputs, which together form the matrix of what your project will be and that
silently establish themselves within you until you can no longer contain
them.
I never really liked studying, I was never totally satisfied. The feeling
has always been to get information but not the real key to use it. After
completing a scientific high school and graduating university with a degree

the pieces shifted into the right place in my mind. Almost without realizing
it, I began visiting embassy websites, first the US and then Australia, to

After converting the driving license I test drove it and negotiated the price by
including the helmet, brake pads and new front tire in the grand total. Then I
communicated the model to GIVI for the fittings, bags and cases.
Gasoline costs about $1.50 and even more in the Outback (the distant, remote,
arid area of Australia) and not 60 cents as someone had sworn to me! The next
step will be THE TOP, Cape York!
This peninsula is one of the most remote parts of the world and the
Government has not succeeded in populating it. Just think that only 30% of the
main road is paved!
Once the GIVI material is available I will buy a camping stove, water purification
tablets, spare tires, etc.
I’m officially a rider on the road, indeed, on the Oz!
After receiving the necessary information about Francesco’s
motorcycle, GIVI prepared and sent the components to
be mounted on the Yamaha to the Australian importer: the
bike-specific fittings, 2 46-litre Trekker cases equipped to be
installed on the side, a 52-litre Trekker top case with a top rack
and finally a T475 tank bag from the Xstream line.
