ABOUT THE BILLIKENS -- Saint Louis is 3-1 on the season. The Billikens are coming off a thrilling 3-2 overtime victory at No. 10 Louisville on Tuesday. A Louisville own goal in the 97th minute handed SLU the win. -- Saint Louis is ranked No. 16 in the College Soccer News poll and No. 17 in the Soccer America poll. The Billikens are the first team receiving votes in the NSCAA coaches’ poll. -- Senior forward Vince Cicciarelli leads the team with four goals. Senior defender Filip Pavisic has scored twice for the Billikens, while freshman forward Anthony Brown has scored a goal and added an assist for three points. -- Sophomore keeper Sascha Otte has 14 career shutouts and a 0.93 career goals against average. LAST TIME OUT -- Saint Louis benefited from a Louisville own goal in the first overtime session to defeat the 10th-ranked Cardinals 3-2. -- Senior forward Faik Hajderovic scored his first goal in a Billiken uniform to open the scoring for SLU. Senior forward Vince Cicciarelli scored his team-leading fourth goal of the year. Cicciarelli EARNS TWO a-10 player of the week HONORS -- Senior forward Vince Cicciarelli claimed the first two Atlantic 10 Conference Player of the Week honors. -- Cicciarelli won the first honor on Aug. 31 after scoring the game-winning goal in the Billikens’ double-overtime victory at Tulsa. He again earned the honor on Sept. 8 after scoring twice in the Billikens’ 3-0 victory against Memphis. Scouting DENVER -- The Pioneers (4-0-1) are one of 14 teams nationally who have yet to lose a game. -- Denver is No. 15 in this week’s NSCAA poll, its highest national ranking ever. The Pioneers are also ranked No. 17 by College Soccer News, No. 21 by Top Drawer Soccer and No. 23 by Soccer America. -- Chandler Crosswait, the reigning Summit League Offensive Player of the Week, leads the Pioneers with two goals and three assists. He scored the overtime game-winner in Denver’s 2-1 win at St. John’s last Saturday. Goalkeeper Dan Jackson has played every minute in goal. Billiken Soccer • Game Notes -- First-year head coach Jamie Franks is the youngest NCAA Division I men’s soccer head coach at age 28. DENVER VS. SAINT LOUIS – THE SERIES -- The Billikens own a 2-1 series lead over Denver. -- SLU defeated the Pioneers 1-0 at Hermann Stadium in 2008 and 2013. Denver’s victory in the series was a 2-1 triumph in Denver. BILLIKENS PICKED TO WIN THE A-10 -- SLU is the preseason favorite to win the Atlantic 10 Conference men’s soccer title according to balloting by the league’s head coaches. -- Earning preseason All-Conference plaudits were senior forward Vince Cicciarelli, senior defender Tyler David and senior midfielder David Graydon. -- Named to the A-10’s preseason All-Rookie team were forward Anthony Brown, midfielder/defender Lennart Hein and forward Nebojsa Popovic. National Team Call-Ups -- Freshman forward Nebojsa Popovic just completed a stint with the U.S. Under-20 Men’s National Team at the 2015 Stevan Vilotic-Cele Tournament in Serbia. He started for the United States against Serbia and came off the bench in the Americans’ win against Israel. Popovic missed the Memphis game for the international duty but returned to St. Louis last Wednesday and appeared in the Akron game two days later. -- Former Billiken Tim Ream, who plays for Fulham FC in England, started both games for the U.S. Men’s National Team that played friendlies against Peru (Sept. 4) and Brazil (Sept. 8). Streaking at Hermann Stadium -- Saint Louis is the only NCAA Division I program that has not lost on its home field the last three years (2013, 2014, 2015). The Billikens are unbeaten in their last 20 home games and have won 14 in a row at Hermann Stadium. -- Ironically, tonight’s opponent, Denver, owns the longest streak in the nation, going unbeaten in its last 21 and winning 19 consecutive games at home. -- The SLU record for consecutive home games without a loss is 28 (200003). SLU’s longest home winning streak is 22 (1968-72). NCAA Statistical Leaders -- Senior forward Faik Hajderovic is the active NCAA Division I leader in career assists with 24. Hajderovic collected those assists during his threeyear career at Evansville. -- Senior midfielder David Graydon is tied for second among active NCAA Division I players with 21 career assists. -- Sophomore goalkeeper Sascha Otte is the lone underclassman among the top 15 active career leaders in shutouts. He has 14 career clean sheets to tie for 15th in the NCAA. Coaching Staff --Two-time A-10 Coach of the Year Mike McGinty is in his sixth year as head coach of the Billikens. The season opener at Tulsa was his 100th game on the Billikens’ sideline, where he is 62-33-8. -- Previously, McGinty served as Virginia’s associate head coach and won a national title in 2009. -- McGinty is aided by assistant coaches and former Billikens Brian Grazier and Michael Robson. Tim Kelly returns as the goalkeeper coach, and Jacob Bushue is the senior graduate manager. 2-2-2-2 WEEKLY POLL SUMMARY Poll NSCAA SA TDS CSN RPI Region Preseason 22 NR 19 23 - - Week 1 14 NR 21 21 - 2 Week 2 16 17 14 15 - 4 Week 3 RV 17 NR 16 - 8 Week 4 Week 5 Week 6 Week 7 Week 8 Week 9 Week 10 Week 11 Final Reg.
