Energy-Efficient Specialties
To date, Perry Homes has built
82 ENERGY STAR certified homes and installed 63 high-efficiency
furnaces, saving 25,000 therms of natural gas. This savings is
equal to the annual CO2 emissions from the energy use of ten
homes, or taking 24 cars off the road for one year. The positive
homebuyer response and energy savings were so impressive that
they now build 100% of their homes to ENERGY STAR certification.
“Building ENERGY STAR homes gives us a competitive advantage
because buyers want a home that will deliver cost savings on
utility bills,” says Jeff Taylor, President of Perry Homes. “And with
incentives from ThermWise and tax credits, we spend some money
upfront for the certification but the money back makes it worth it.
It’s a win-win situation for us.”
High-Efficiency Gas Furnaces
Perry Homes pushes the bar beyond ENERGY STAR on many
of their homes by also installing high-efficiency gas furnaces.
These furnaces can save homeowners up to 15% on heating
bills and Perry Homes earns a $300 rebate from Questar Gas
for each installation.

Superior Comfort
While the majority of the company’s homebuyers are initially
drawn-in by lower utility bills, what they come to appreciate
just as much is superior comfort. “Our customers tell us that
the homes are just more comfortable,” says Taylor. “The cold
and hot spots in the homes are less noticeable and they are
easier to heat and cool because of energy-efficient features.”
Building ENERGY STAR also paves the way for better
relationships with Utah municipalities. “The cities recognize
ENERGY STAR so that helps our relationship and streamlines
our interactions,” says Taylor.
ENERGY STAR Makes Good Business Sense
Because of their dedication to energy-efficiency, Perry Homes
was named the Platinum ThermWise Builder of the Year in the
category of Large Production Builder (over 75 homes per year).
The win earned them $2500 in marketing funds to promote
their homes to Utah residents. “We’ll use the funds to create
TV ads and really plug our commitment to building for energy
savings,” says Taylor. “We’re excited to draw more attention to
our homes and to continue to educate buyers on the benefits.”

draw attention to the various energy efficient features.
