WEEKLY Saturday, March 14, 2015 • 23 Adar 5775 SHABBAT VAYAKHEL-PEKUDEI SHABBAT PARAH Torah 1 Page: 373 | Torah 2 Page: 652 Haftarah Page: 999 | Haftarah: Dr. Jeffrey Weinberg RABBI’S SHABBAT MESSAGE "So the whole community of the Israelites left Moses’ presence. And everyone who excelled in ability and everyone whose spirit moved him came, bringing to the Lord his offering for the work of the Tent of Meeting and for all its service and for the sacral vestments. Men and women, all whose hearts moved them, all who would make an elevation offering of gold to the Lord, came bringing brooches, earrings, rings, and pendants—gold objects of all kinds.” This small quote is taken from this morning’s Torah reading, and as you can see it draws from the ongoing story of the construction of the Mishkan, the portable house of worship used by the Israelites as they wandered through the Sinai desert. You can see the significant material that was needed – and supplied – in order to make the idea come to reality. In the Torah we are told “all whose hearts moved them” brought what was needed. Interestingly the Hebrew text uses the expression ”"אֲשֶׁ ר־נ ְשָׂ ֣אֹו ל ִּ֑בֹו to speak about those who brought. But the Spanish medieval commentator Ibn Ezra focuses on the idea that this giving ‘lifted the hearts” of those who gave. Saying to us that not only the inspiration to give inspired those who gave, but by giving they in turn became even more deeply inspired. Shabbat Shalom, Rabbi Aaron Flanzraich TICKETS ON SALE NOW!
