done it for you! Most can be accessed
anywhere from any device; others require
that you be in a CADL branch.

Money Smart Week
April 18-24
This annual public awareness campaign was
designed to help consumers better manage
their personal finances. CADL is
pleased to partner with the Center
for Financial Health to provide
free, expert presentations
for children and adults.
Older adults and their loved
ones will appreciate several
presentations on the topic of
Elderlaw. Learn about tools for planning
and transferring property, plus how to get
the most from pensions and other benefits.
Since it’s never too early to learn about
managing money, our events also include
Money Smart storytimes. Children ages
3-6 will enjoy stories and crafts, plus
receive a free copy of Berenstain Bears’
Dollars and Sense. They’ll also learn
how they can read to earn
their own CADL savings bank.
Get details on all our Money
Smart Week events by visiting
cadl.org/events and entering
“money smart” into the
keyword search.
Adults of all ages
will benefit from
learning how to
protect themselves
from identity theft
and scams. Those
in the process of
house hunting
can get tips from several local experts, including
Ingham County Treasurer Eric Schertzing, who
will explain the process, benefits and risks of
buying a home in a tax lien sale.

your CADL branch or cadl.org/events.

Spring Gardening
Series
If you’re a gardener, you know the
feeling of anticipation that comes from
poring through seed catalogs all winter.
Then a spell of warm weather hits, with
that smell of fresh air and rich dirt, and
suddenly you know it’s time to get outside
and start digging!
This spring we’ve gathered experts from
across mid-Michigan to share tips to help
you start or improve your garden.
For beginners we have Gardening 101,
presented by staff from the Greater Lansing
Food Bank’s Garden Project. They’ll not only
outline the basics, they’ll point you to local
resources for everything you need to get
started.
The Greater Lansing Food Bank will also
stop by to talk about their “Grow-a-Row”
initiative. It encourages gardeners to plant
a little extra, so they can share their
homegrown bounty with those in need in
our community. They’ll even help get you
started with free seeds and recipes.
For a unique approach to gardening, try
Beekeeping 101, with local beekeeping
expert and MSU researcher Dr. Zachary
Huang. He’ll offer advice on starting up and
maintaining a beehive, which can be very
beneficial to gardens as well as producing
honey. To sweeten the deal, he’ll bring
honey from MSU that can be purchased
onsite.
We’re offering a total of twelve
different topics at various CADL
branches. So pick up that shovel
and pull on those gloves—it’s
time to get growing!

MSU Science Festival
April 15-19
CADL is a proud supporter of the STEM
movement, offering resources and events
to strengthen skills in the areas of science,
technology,
engineering
and math.
This spring we
have partnered
with MSU to
participate in
their annual Science Festival. This free,
five-day-long event includes more than
150 science-themed presentations, spread
out all over campus. Find a map and a
schedule at sciencefestival.msu.edu.
Don’t miss a fun show called “Wacky
Science,” sponsored by CADL and featuring
Doug Scheer (aka
“Dr. Science”). He’ll
take the stage on
Saturday, April 15 at
11 a.m. to show kids
how much fun science
with everyday objects
can be.
On Saturday and Sunday, stop by CADL’s booth
in the Lansing State Journal Expo Zone. Kids
can do a fun experiment and learn about cool
science resources and events at the library.
Meet the
Curious Crew
The cast from
WKAR’s local
science show
is going on the
road! Get in on
the fun when
they stop by
our Holt-Delhi
branch to meet
with kids and
present a live science demonstration. It takes
place on Saturday, March 28 at 11 a.m. and
is recommended for ages 6 and up.
If you haven’t checked out the show yet,
or you missed an episode, get the DVDs
at the library! They’re listed in our online
catalog at cadl.org/catalog.
For more science events, visit your
CADL branch or cadl.org/events and click on “Science and Animals.”

Minecraft
Game Nights
Chances are if you’re a parent, you
know all about the Minecraft craze.
Your teens and tweens are probably
addicted—and maybe you are, too!
We’ve created after-hours game nights
so that tweens and teens ages 8–15
can come together in a fun environment
to play Minecraft. All skill levels are
welcome, and younger children may
attend with adult supervision.
Registration is required, which opens
two weeks prior to each event.
Get a schedule at cadl.org/events,
or at these participating branches:
