We call it simply… - The Datsun Roadster Book
You can kiss it goodbye!
The “original” – out with the old…..
In 1987- 88 we first published the manual shown above.
We sold slightly more than 230 copies. We’ve spent the
last 10 months revising it, re-typing it, expanding it,
adding photos and illustrations, and improving
everything that was provided in “the original”.
Announcing the Biggest, Most Informative Datsun
Roadster Book Ever!

An English translation of “The Fairlady Story”!
Translated by Aki Hatahira
The Fairlady Story
This is a direct, literal translation of the Japanese text from Fairlady I (Neko
Boutique 1977) without editing or modifications to “Americanize” it. We hope you
find it interesting.
It may be inelegant to write in detail about a beautiful and noble lady. However, people who have
been attracted to the beautiful name, appearance, and everything are addicted to her. The
sadness by loving her creates inelegant desire. I want to know everything about her, past,
present, and any little detail of her, and set it in my heart. That is how “The Fairlady Story” has
been written.
Chapter 1 - The Fairlady I Before Dawn – Dutsun Sports
The history of the Fairlady is all about the history of Japanese sports cars. The debut of the
sports car named as the Fairlady in the world was 1961. It was Dutsun Fairlady SPL212……

In-depth discussion of the individual vehicle systems in simple terms!
BACKGROUND
The 2000 engine block comes in one configuration; a one-piece cast iron unit that weighs about
97 pounds (44.10 kg). There are 5-main bearings in all 2000 blocks. The debut of the 2000
block coincided with the 5-main 1600 block in mid-1967. Both blocks are very similar in many
ways. The main bearing caps are separate castings that are machined to fit, bolted on, and then
line-bored in place to assure a straight saddle for the crankshaft. The block is very sturdy in the
main bearing area because the casting includes diagonal buttresses at each main bearing that
support the bearing caps and crankshaft by transferring loads into the sides of the block. The
main bearings sizes are exactly the same as the 5-main 1600. The crankshaft dimensions are
almost identical; the primary differences being that the 2000 crankshaft has a longer stroke and a
longer front “nose” due to the overhead camshaft timing mechanism………..

Service and repair steps for major systems!
SRM 01 - Engine Removal / Reinstallation - R-16 and U-20
Since most people using this manual are driving cars with a couple of generations of miles under
their wheels, the first step of the engine removal process is to visit the local “U-do it” car wash.
Thoroughly cover the engine with a degreaser such as Gunk and have at it with the high pressure
hose. Cover the distributor and air filter with plastic or you may have to push it home. A
distributor full of moisture is a misfire waiting to happen. Clean the engine, transmission, frame,
and engine compartment. Any dirt you get off now is less dirt to get on you when you start
working on it.
The design of the 1600 / 2000 sports car drive train and chassis is such that the engine and
gearbox are removed as an assembly from the engine compartment. Any attempt to disprove
this law of mechanics will result in unbelievable amounts of extra work.
REMOVAL OF ENGINE / GEARBOX FROM CHASSIS
1)
Park the car on a smooth, level, and solid surface that won’t allow your jack stands to
sink into the ground. Be sure you have access to all four sides of the car without crowding. Extra
space is needed at the front so you can maneuver an engine crane if you use one. Allow at least
one extra car length in front to place the engine, gearbox, and crane. If you are using an
overhead hoist on a beam, allow at least one car length behind the car so you can push the car
backward from under the engine / gearbox while it is suspended on the hoist.

And finally, to close the deal…………..
We have tried to offer the most comprehensive, complete collection of information
about all areas of roadster ownership to assist you with basic maintenance and
operation of your car including parts information to help with the increasingly
difficult parts search.
We believe that we have improved both quality and quantity of a publication that
has been highly regarded since it was originally published 18-years ago.
Look over these examples and rest assured that the contents of both manuals are
even better than what we’ve shown you here. Not only better in total content, but
spelled “kurecktly”, too (unlike the original 18 years ago)!
We hope you’ve enjoyed your sample of our books and place an order for your
own copies.
Permanently bound with soft covers, each book has over 300 pages without any
full, blank pages. You get information – not blank paper!
Available as individual volumes, Part I and Part II are priced at
$54.88 each
which includes delivery via USPS Media Mail.
Also available as a two-volume set
for $88.88 the set,
which also includes delivery via USPS Media Mail.
P.S. – if you opt for a single volume and decide to get the second volume in
a separate transaction the individual volume price applies.
