It was located about 600 s t a t u t e miles southeaat of Bermuda by a Navy reconnaissance plane and a t the time was a f u l l y developed hurricane with winds up to 85 miles per hour near t h e center. The hurricane's predecessor, "Qracie'l, was then approaching the coast of the United S t a t e s . Until forenoon of September 30th the storm moved on a westerly course with winds increasing t o about 100 milee per hour. By evening of the 30th the c e n t r a l pressure dropped t o 959 millibars and t h e winds near the center increased t o near 125 miles per hour. "Hannah" started curving toward the northwest about the s a m time, A t 11 a.m. EST on October 1 the Miami Hurricane Warning Center announced t h a t there was no threat t o the south Atlantic coast of t h e United States. 5 a.m. EST on October 2 was moving northeastward. Its nearest approach t o the mainland was about 350 miles eastsoutheast of Cape Hatbras, North Carolina as it curved t o about 300 miles north of Bermuda and moved on a path toward the eastnortheast. Increasing forward speed c a r r i e d the storm t o a location approximately 200 milee southsouthwest of the Azorett by t h e tima of the last advlsory a t 11 p.m. EST October 6 .
