Letter from the Director
O
ver the past few years — thanks to our summer staff and more tech-savvy
colleagues — we’ve been able to expand our communications and share the
Huckins Spirit through newsletters, blogs, and social media. But even these
new communications can’t contain all the news and energy emerging from camp
these days.
This Annual Report, our first, is designed to capture that energy and showcase
how your generous gifts to Camp Huckins are making a very real and important
difference in sustaining the Huckins Spirit and ensuring that it lives on, from one
generation to the next.
Our 88th season welcomed over 1,400 campers to the shores of Lake Ossipee. For
two or four weeks, they unplugged their devices, sang songs in the dining hall (at
the top of their lungs), talked late into the night, and made lasting friendships in one of the most beautiful spots
any of us know. Our older campers started on our leadership tracks, learning valuable life skills and building their
self-esteem. We are proud that our campers become our counselors and that the quality and dedication of our
counseling staff is one of Huckins’ greatest assets.
As a sign of the continuing impact that Huckins has had on campers, alumni, and their families, we had over 800
donors participate in giving to one of our Annual Funds (unrestricted or scholarship) or our Endowment Funds
(endowment or scholarship) in 2015. We are deeply thankful for this support and what it makes possible.
Our Annual Fund supported many of our building and maintenance projects last year including new metal roofs
on the Junior Division cabins, a new porch for our Middler Division Leader’s House, new wooden supports for the
Middler Division cabins, new flooring in the Health Center, and a large cookout structure on the Sports Field. We
made needed repairs to the Craft shop (replaced an entire wall and added a new shutter design). We also purchased
a portable sound system for the Chapel, two new Sunfish, and three new Dining Hall tables.
Our Scholarship Program continues to grow and assists many families in helping to make camp a possibility for
their children. Last summer 174 campers received some type of scholarship assistance, either partial or whole.
This year we will focus on two significant buildings projects. The Camp Director’s home (aka “The Palace”) will be
replaced with a new year-round home with community meeting space on the lower level. The project will begin
this spring and take a break this summer. Our goal is to have it ready for use in the summer of 2017. We will also
be replacing cabin Big A, the original Big W and the oldest cabin in the Senior Division. The new cabin will have a
porch (the same as the old Big W) and will take advantage of its beautiful location along the waterfront.
These projects would not be possible without your support and your continued belief in our important mission: to
provide a sharing and caring atmosphere where each person can grow to realize her full potential.
Thank you for the many ways in which you support that mission. The spirit of Camp Huckins is alive and growing,
and we are so grateful to each of you for believing in what we do. I am incredibly fortunate to be involved with this
organization and to watch both children and adults grow and thrive each and every day.

A
s we begin our 89th season of camping, I want
to thank you for your ongoing support of YMCA
Camp Huckins. Support comes in many forms,
from volunteerism and financial gifts to important and
enduring friendships. On the shores of Lake Ossipee
and under the pines, Camp Huckins continues to foster
fond personal connections and an enduring sense of
community. Our closeness allows us to celebrate our great joys as well as
to embrace each other in times of sorrow. This year has again provided
profound testament to the depth and strength of the Huckins spirit. The Board of Directors and the Huckins Staff send you and your family best
wishes for a happy and healthy 2016. We look forward to seeing you at camp
this summer.

Giving Back to the Community
I
t is the mission of the Carroll County YMCA through
its many programs, to strengthen the Spirit, Mind,
and Body of youth, families, and communities.” Each
year Huckins staff and campers “give back” to the local
community through scholarship, volunteer work, food
drives and facility access.

We collected over 725 items for the Freedom Food Pantry
during our summer food drives in 2015.
Youth & Government Program
Seven local school groups used our ropes course and other
facilities for team building and leadership activities. Freedom
and Pine Tree elementary schools took over camp for their
June Field Days.

The NH YMCA Youth and Government Program, in cooperation with all of the YMCAs in the state, takes place annually
at the State House in Concord. This will be Jody’s third year
as the director of this amazing event, which engages 275 high
school students from 27 different high schools, in a three-day
program experiencing the state legislative process.
