Report to Philanthropic Investors It is a pleasure to report that the generosity of our donors remained steadfast despite the continued uncertainty in the national and international economy. During Fiscal Year 2011, gifts to Lahey Clinic came in diverse forms from a wide range of donors. These contributions of cash, marketable securities, trusts, and real property came from patients, friends, families, foundations, and corporations to support Lahey’s patient care, medical education, and biomedical research mission – all to the benefit of people in the communities we serve. Our donors were united in their commitment to empower Lahey to continue to deliver the safest and highest quality of care with utmost compassion in the most satisfying way to our patients and their families. Philanthropic support provides the margin of excellence and plays a significant role in enabling Lahey to fulfill its mission as a health care organization committed to delivering community-based care and international impact; teaching tomorrow’s health care practitioners and leaders; and advancing medicine through innovative clinical research. With your philanthropic investment, Lahey Clinic will continue to deliver superb patient care through an interdisciplinary, team-based approach. Each donor and every gift was an integral part of a successful year at Lahey. Key fund-raising highlights include: Six deferred gifts generated charitable contributions at the $250,000+ level. n The Women’s Health Forum raised $206,099 for Lahey programs. n Ten philanthropists made major gifts at the $100,000+ level. n Eleven benefactors made leadership gifts at the $50,000+ level. n Nineteen corporations and foundations made special gifts at the $10,000+ level. n Annual Giving programs total gift income increased by 22 percent. n Annual Giving programs average gift size increased by 42 percent. n Special Events gift income increased by 51 percent. – Lahey Clinic Classic Golf Tournament was re-introduced in FY11 and raised more than $204,000 for emergency medicine services. – Lahey Clinic Cancer Walk, which benefits the Sophia Gordon Cancer Center, increased participants by 23 percent and revenues by 12 percent. n Your support makes it possible. With this extraordinary generosity, these benefactors—like the founders and early leaders of the Clinic—change lives, contribute to the advancement of medicine and help Lahey better serve the needs of current and future patients. This Honor Roll recognizes giving to Lahey Clinic as of the last day of FY11 (October 1, 2010 to September 30, 2011). Lahey’s Lifetime Giving Societies Lahey recognizes leadership level cumulative giving to the Clinic. Members of Lahey’s lifetime societies are exceptional individuals and organizations which, through their generosity, sustain the Clinic’s mission. Going forward, the Lifetime Recognition section of the Lahey Clinic Honor Roll will be published exclusively electronically and will be available online (www.Lahey.org/Philanthropy). Wilson 2011 Annual Report • Lahey Clinic • 35 Dr. Lincoln Sise Society Dr. Sise obtained his Harvard medical degree in 1901, and he was one of the first doctors who joined Dr. Lahey. They worked together for 30 years and shared the belief that surgery should be performed as a team and that anesthesia is as important to an operation as the surgical procedure itself. Dr. Sise pioneered anesthesia techniques and served as president of the New England Society of Anesthesiologists (1928-31).
