Fear Not – Don’t be ‘kiasi’ (4-7)
2013
About 2,123 ‘martyr’
killings
‘Do not fear those who kill the body and after that
have nothing more that they can do.’
Fear of man
Why people may fear other people rather than
God:
1. We fear people because they can reject, ridicule,
or despise us.
2. We fear people because they can attack,
oppress, or threaten us.

Fear God
‘fear him who, after he has killed, has authority to
cast into hell.’
God Cares
‘Are not five sparrows sold for two pennies? And
not one of them is forgotten before God. Why,
even the hairs of your head are all numbered. Fear
not; you are of more value than many sparrows.’
Fear not, don’t be ‘kiasi’, God loves you and cares
for you because you are of more value than many
sparrows.
Fear Not – Don’t be ‘kiasu’ (8-12)
‘everyone who acknowledges me before men, the
Son of Man also will acknowledge before the
angels of God, but the one who denies me before
men will be denied before the angels of God.’
Fear Not – Don’t be ‘kiasu’ (8-12)
‘everyone who acknowledges me before men, the
Son of Man also will acknowledge before the
angels of God, but the one who denies me before
men will be denied before the angels of God.’
‘And everyone who speaks a word against the Son
of Man will be forgiven, but the one who
blasphemes against the Holy Spirit will not be
forgiven.’
‘One who asks to be forgiven for disrespectful
words hastily spoken against Jesus will be forgiven
(e.g. of Peter). But blaspheming against the Holy
Spirit i.e. the persistent and unrepentant
resistance against the work of the Holy Spirit and
his message concerning Jesus will not be forgiven.
[The reason:] the person who persists in hardening
his heart against God, against the Holy Spirit, and
against the provision of Christ as Saviour, is
outside the reach of God’s provision for
forgiveness and salvation.’ (ESV Study Bible)
‘And when they bring you before the synagogues
and the rulers and the authorities, do not be
anxious about how you should defend yourself or
what you should say, for the Holy Spirit will teach
you in that very hour what you ought to say.’
Fear Not – Don’t be ‘kiabo’ (13-21)
The Parable of the Rich Fool
FOOL !
‘This night your soul is required of you, and the
things you have prepared, whose will they be?’
‘As he came from his mother’s womb he shall go
again, naked as he came, and shall take nothing
for his toil that he may carry away in his hand.’
Ecclesiastes 5:15
Fear Not – Don’t be ‘kiabo’ (13-21)
God will Provide – Luke 12:22-34
Instead Be Rich Toward God
By John Piper
It is
• the opposite of laying up earthly treasure for
yourself
• the opposite of treating the self as though it
were made for things and not for God
Be Rich Toward God
It is
• the opposite of acting as if life consists in the
abundance of possessions not in the abundance
of knowing God
• the heart being drawn toward God as our riches
Means
• moving toward God as our riches
• counting God greater riches than anything on
the earth
• using earthly riches to show how much you
value God
Fear Not – Don’t be ‘kiasi’ (4-7)
Don’t be ‘kiasu’ (8-12)
Don’t be ‘kiabo’ (13-21)
Instead
• submit our lives to Jesus
• believe that His words are true
• look forward to a greater and better kingdom
beyond this world
‘Therefore, we are ambassadors for Christ, God
making his appeal through us.’
2 Corinthians 5:20
