Welcome to FringeNYC 2014!
................... 2
For eighteen years we’ve been gathering artist who make amazing work
with very limited resources. Some of my favorite moments on stage have
happened right here at FringeNYC. So this year, we celebrate making
something out of nothing – beauty and art and drama and hilarity that
springs up all around us in an instant.
Come to FringeCENTRAL and see what we’ve built in a parking lot on
the Lower East Side! Join us in making fabulous creatures out of recycled materials, see FringeNYTeasers happen out of nowhere, and celebrate a gathering like no other in NYC.
And make sure to look for our Fly Guys all around you – in fabulous
fringey fly masks created by Puppet Phactory. They’re around to remind
you that this year you can “Fringe On The Fly” – purchase tickets on
your mobile phone or device right up to a half hour prior to the performance, and then present your mobile tickets at the door for entry.
This year, we celebrate what’s possible. We celebrate ingenuity and creativity and geekery extraordinaire. We celebrate everyone who is using
duct tape and bailing wire and amazing creativity to make unforgettable
things happen in a tiny black box on the Lower East Side. This year – we
celebrate Daniel Jagendorf. We miss you, Dan.

FringeHIGH (definition): a collection of boundary-stretching plays guaranteed to captivate
and entertain NYC teens.
New ideas, new perspectives, pushing the limits, that’s FringeNYC. FringeHIGH is a group
of shows chosen from the regular FringeNYC
roster that will resonate with young adults.
Topics for this year’s FringeHIGH shows
include: confronting school violence and bullying, claiming your own identity, challenging
sexual labels and stereotypes, and of course,
negotiating the twists and turns of love. And
you can take your pick of innovative theatre,
including: a graphic novel brought to life,
dancers mimicking mannequins and insects, a
cowboy musical, and re-imagined Shakespeare
with sword fights and back story! Check out
the descriptions below for more information.
Tickets can be purchased on-line, by phone, or
in person at FringeCENTRAL. In addition, a
limited number of tickets are available through
High 5 Tickets to the Arts at $5 each or less
(go to www.highfivetix.org in July)!!
As an extra added bonus, one performance of
each FringeHIGH show will have a talk-back!
What’s a talk-back? A talk-back is your chance
to meet with members of the cast or creative
team (like the director or the author). You can
ask them questions, and get an insider’s view.
Talk-backs will be open to all audience members, and will be held immediately after certain
performances (talk-back performances listed
below - for a listing of all performances, click
on the show title).
