Wow! Can you believe it’s already the beginning of a new term, Ladybugs?? Phenomenal speeches and fun skits at June General, an incredible National Convention in Puerto Vallarta, warm roasts and toasts at June Board, exciting election results at July General, and who could forget the amazing Installation Dinner on the Delta King? And now we’re headed to Tahoe! What lucky ladybugs we are! I can’t help but take a minute to reflect on just that statement. I am so blessed to be in such a wonderful organization with people I respect, doing the right work and doing it with purpose. Each and every day I am thankful for everything this club has done for me, and it is such an honor to serve you and serve this club. And this year, we’re turning up the heat with my theme “Ignite Your Fire, Share the Passion!” With that being said, I’d like to thank the Firedancers aka 2013-2014 Board Members for jumping into the flames and representing our membership. These women are committed to member engagement and leadership development. If you haven’t heard from your Board Advisor yet, you will soon. Please answer their call, respond to their email or text them back. Constant and consistent communication helps this club operate smoothly. For those of you who submitted Interest Surveys for Standing Committees, Projects and Events, bravo for stepping up! I look forward to seeing what you can do! I would also like to thank a few close friends who helped me in recent months leading up to the start of my term. Amber Jewison, Marie Rocha, Jennifer Lauchaire, Esther Normoyle, Tracy Novak, Loni Foster and Jen Easton: thank you for being amazing friends when I needed you most. Tracy Novak, thank you for picking out my perfect dress for Installation. “Watch out, Rachel Zoe!!” Tracy Teague, thank you for bringing my logo vision to life. I love it! Thank you Linda Abdelbaki, Marie Rocha and Shandi Jennings for an unforgettable Installation Dinner on the river. Thank you Past Actives Tiffany Peltz Planchon and Rachel Hickerson for coming; it meant so much to have you there. In closing, I look forward to working together towards a common goal of living our mission, vision and values. Ignite! Yours in Active 20-30, Gina S. INSTALLATION DINNER ROCKS ON THE RIVER It was a beautiful, warm night on the Sacramento River July 11 for the installation of the 2013-2014 Board on the Delta King. We rocked out to Dave Matthews Band (President Gina McKeever’s favorite band and whose “mascot/logo” is a firedancer) and songs about fire to match the term’s new theme, while enjoying cocktails on the deck before a delicious dinner and the installation festivities. The Board Members aka Firedancers received motivational gifts such as: lighters to ignite their fire, candles to keep the flame going, Hot Tamales candy to spice up the club, a dog toy to keep our Firehouse Pup Penny busy, a custom-made DMB CD, and a bonding Girls Night Out at Sacramento Pole Dance Studio, because Firedancers need to know how to work the fireman’s pole! It’s time for our annual trek up the mountain for four beautiful days of fun, friendship and fall term planning! Want to know how decisions get made, how ideas are brainstormed and how women get to know each other so well? Well, jump in a carpool (Vice Presidents Jeanette Kuhl & Annie Vittum help coordinate) and let’s go! You might get lucky and get there in time for a bed (first-come, first-serve, no saving beds)! If not, you’re stuck on the couch or the floor, or maybe even the bathtub! Stock up on celebrity gossip magazine and snacks, because we’ll be lounging around playing silly games and bonding. Rumor has it that your VPs are planning a delicious beverage for us all to try on Friday night… how many will it take before someone’s bra ends up frozen in the freezer (and then worn on their head)! Was that Char Silva and Rachel Hickerson in 2008? Ah, memories! Stay tuned to the tradition of pranking the President. Julie Campbell’s mattress went out on the patio, Connie Perkins’ clothes ended up in a tree, and Catherine Hall’s bedroom was covered in pink streamers, balloons, tiaras and more! Saturday’s meeting will no-doubt be a long one (9-2ish), but it will be informative, interesting and engaging. We’ll talk about the goals and objectives of the term, we’ll introduce the new Board, Advisee Groups, committees, events and projects. We will review the Club Calendar and Proposed General, Benevolent and Scholarship Budgets. Over lunch, we’ll do Advisee Breakout Sessions with a variety of topics and you can get to know the women in your Board Group. After the meeting, we’ll relax for a couple of hours before hitting the town! SCHEDULE OF EVENTS Thursday: Carpool up, get settled in, casual dinner out at Sushi Pier Friday: Beach day!
