Welcome to
Creativity Month
in Colin
Colin Neighbourhood Partnership, in association with the Department of
Culture Arts and Leisure (DCAL) and Urban Villages, has organised a whole
month of creative events for the Colin community to enjoy. This Creativity
Month in Colin programme is filled with events including film screenings, arts
and crafts, pottery workshops, historical tours, day-trips and workshops for all
ages and all abilities.

CREATIVITY AT THE HUB - A series of creative workshops for adults.
Each class takes place in the Colin Community Hub, Laurelglen Shops, Belfast. £2 per person per class.

Soap and lip balm workshop
Tuesday 1st March, 11am-1pm
Beeswax, coconut oil and more will be gently heated to produce a natural lip balm.
Participants will also create a variety of soap shapes using natural ingredients.
Bath fizzers workshop
Wednesday 2nd March, 11am-1pm
This workshop will focus on making small bath bombs – bath fizzers.
Upscaling to bath bombs will also be demonstrated.
Creative embroidery workshops
Monday 7th & Monday 14th March, 6pm-8pm
No previous sewing experience required. Over 2 weeks you will use a range of fabrics including
chiffon and organza to create a mini seascape.
Scented soy candle workshop
Tuesday 8th March, 11am-1pm
Make a scented soy wax candle.
Bath salts & votive candle
Wednesday 9th March, 11am-1pm
Use natural ingredients such as Epsom salt and Himalayan salt to create a layered bath mixture
in a jar. You will also create a candle in the colour of your choosing.
Wax melts and decorated candle workshops
Tuesday 15th March, 11am-1pm
Using the double boiler method create wax melt which you can use in an oil burner. You will
also decorate a pre-made candle.
Personalised mini memory album workshops
Tuesday 15th, Monday 21st and Tuesday 22nd March, 6-8pm
Make a little handcrafted album to treasure important memories. Please bring prints of 4x4
photos to 1st workshop.
Book folding workshops
Wednesday 16th March, 11am-1pm
On trend in craft shops at the moment. Start with a paperback novel and by using a folding
technique and a bone folder make a ‘hedgehog’ which can be used to file notes and messages.

Pottery Workshops
Starts Tuesday 1st March, 7.00pm, at Cloona House, 31 Colin
Road, Belfast.
Over 4 weeks create a range of objects, from personalised
door signage, to decorative bowls and picture frames. Use
the pottery wheel and paint the objects you have created.

Baking Classes
Starts Wednesday 2nd March, 7-9pm, Colin Allotments
Healthy Living Centre, Colinglen Road, Belfast.
Over 5 weeks learn how to bake a variety of breads and
cakes. £5 per person per class. Adults only. All materials

Indoor Bowls for Men
Starts Wednesday 2nd March, 10.30am-12.30pm, Sally
Gardens Community Centre, Poleglass.
Calling all men! Come and learn the art of indoor bowls. Over
4 weeks a professional tutor will be on hand to teach you

Building a Cob Oven
Starts Thursday 3rd March, 6pm, Colin Allotment site,
Belfast.
This traditional craft will help you gain the knowledge to
build your very own cob oven, great for pizza making and
bread making. Each week you will be taken through a step
by step process until a cob oven is completed on the Colin
Allotment site. Using natural materials this is a workshop not

World Book Day
Thursday 3rd March, 6.00pm-7.30pm. Colin Glen Library.
Colin Neighbourhood Partnership & Libraries NI are working
in partnership to bring you a full day of activities to celebrate
World Book Day. There will be storytelling and arts and
crafts, all with a special Gruffalo twist. Free event. Booking

‘Game of Thrones’ Tour
Friday 4th March, bus departs Cloona House at 10.00am.
Visit locations from the popular TV show including Dunluce
castle, Giants Causeway, Balintoy harbour, Carrick-a-Rede
rope bridge, the Dark Hedges and more. Several locations
will also be from season 6. Please note there is a substantial

Gone fishing
A series of fishing trips to a fishing lake in County Down.
Friday 4th March trip for men, Friday 11th March trip for
adults, Saturday 19th March trip for families. This is a great
day out, especially if you haven’t experienced fishing before.

Circus Fergus
Saturday 5th March, 1pm & 2.30pm, Dairy Farm Shopping
Centre, Belfast.
Come and watch the highly skilled and diverse trickery of the
comedy juggler, Circus Fergus! Juggling knives and riding
unicycles are just breakfast for Fergus. It’s when the audience
become part of the show that the real hilarity begins. Open

Itty Bitty Circus Workshop
Saturday 5th March, 1pm-2pm, Brook Activity Centre,
Twinbrook.
Especially for the younger kids (4-7 years) this workshop uses
a variety of circus equipment such as juggling scarves and

Belfast Giants v Braehead Clan
Hockey Match
Saturday 5th March, 7.00pm, SSE Arena, Belfast.
Come and experience the energy of a hockey game when the
Belfast Giants take on the Braehead Clan in this elite league;
soak up the atmosphere in this family friendly sport. Bus

Historical Talk with Fearghal

A talk on the 1916 Easter rising and the Proclamation, with

Circus Circus
Tuesday 8th, 15th & 22nd March, 4.30pm-6.30pm, Brook
Activity Centre, Twinbrook.
Youth Circus workshops for 8 -16 year olds. During this 3
week programme participants will learn diabolo juggling,
stilt walking, unicycle, plate spinning, tight wire, devil

Historical Discussion:
Easter Rising
Tuesday 8th March, 7pm-8.30pm, Colin Allotments, Belfast.
Come along and hear about the Easter Rising and its impact
on the North by local historian Jimmy McDermott. Free

Wheelworks Art Cart
A fully mobile digital arts studio featuring a darkroom, sound
recording studio, and photography workstations for young
people.

W5 Science Magic & H2OH
Workshops

Science Magic Workshop: 4pm-5pm. H20H Workshop: 5-6pm.
Fun and interactive demonstration shows aimed at 4-11 year olds.
Science Magic looks at different tricks that people may think are
magic but are actually just science. The H2Oh workshop looks at

Titanic Belfast Day Trip

Day trip for senior citizens. Explore the Titanic story in a fresh
and insightful way. See the shipyard, travel to the depths of the
ocean and uncover the true legend of the Titanic, in the city

Cinemobile Movie Screenings
What looks like an articulated truck is actually a 100 seat
comfortable, mobile cinema! Join us as we bring the magic

Art Cart Workshops at the Cinemobile
Saturday 12th March, Colin Community Hub car park, Laurel Glen Shops, Belfast.
12noon-1.00pm – Dinosaur themed arts and crafts workshop. Places limited, open to those
booked into the screening of ‘The Good Dinosaur’ at the Cinemobile.

Spring Dander at Colin Glen Forest Park
Saturday 12th March, 10.30am-12.30pm.
Join the Belfast Hills team for a seasonal walk along the wooded river valley and look for the
first signs of spring. Family event with activities such as bark rubbing, bug hunts and fossil
finding. Free event, no booking required, meet at Colin Glen Forest Park Centre, Stewartstown
Road. Please wear appropriate boots and clothing.

Creativity Day
Wednesday 16th March, 3.00pm-6.00pm,
Dairy Farm Shopping Centre, Stewartstown Rd, Belfast.
An afternoon of creative fun for all the family. Visit
international arts & crafts stations where you will have the
opportunity to experience art & crafts from around the world.
Participate in traditional Polish, Mexican and Bollywood dance
and African drumming circles. There will also be a soda bread
baking demonstration and food tasting to tie in with
St Patricks Day as well as storytelling in the library for children.
An event that is sure to keep the family busy and entertained
for hours!

Historical Guided Tour of Dublin
Saturday 19th March, bus departs 8.30am, Dairy Farm centre, Stewartstown Road,

This tour will take in the key sites of both the 1916 rising and the memorials to both
World War One and those killed during Easter Week, hosted by Dr Eamon Phoenix. Free

Ulster American Folk Park Day Trip

cottages of Ulster, on board a full scale emigrant sailing ship leading to the log cabins

Build a Bird Box Workshop

The Harlem Gospel Choir at Lagan Valley Arts
Centre, Lisburn

Performing contemporary gospel with a touch of jazz and blues, the world famous Harlem
Gospel Choir is synonymous with power vocals, glorious sound and infectious energy. The
Choir have performed alongside superstars such as Bono, Diana Ross, Andre Rieu, Damon
Albarn and Pharrell Williams as well as performing for President Obama and President

The Colin area will have its very own synthetic ice rink for 3 days
in the Dairy Farm Shopping Centre, Belfast. So get your skates
on and come join in the family fun and show off your dancing on
