Creativity Month in Colin March 2016 Creative events for everyone in Colin Music, crafts, film, sport, family trips, history, culture and more! Welcome to Creativity Month in Colin Colin Neighbourhood Partnership, in association with the Department of Culture Arts and Leisure (DCAL) and Urban Villages, has organised a whole month of creative events for the Colin community to enjoy. This Creativity Month in Colin programme is filled with events including film screenings, arts and crafts, pottery workshops, historical tours, day-trips and workshops for all ages and all abilities. Creativity Month | Page 01 CREATIVITY AT THE HUB - A series of creative workshops for adults. Each class takes place in the Colin Community Hub, Laurelglen Shops, Belfast. £2 per person per class. No previous experience necessary. Booking required for each workshop, contact Ciara at Colin Neighbourhood Partnership on 028 90623813 / [email protected] Soap and lip balm workshop Tuesday 1st March, 11am-1pm Beeswax, coconut oil and more will be gently heated to produce a natural lip balm. Participants will also create a variety of soap shapes using natural ingredients. Bath fizzers workshop Wednesday 2nd March, 11am-1pm This workshop will focus on making small bath bombs – bath fizzers. Upscaling to bath bombs will also be demonstrated. Creative embroidery workshops Monday 7th & Monday 14th March, 6pm-8pm No previous sewing experience required. Over 2 weeks you will use a range of fabrics including chiffon and organza to create a mini seascape. Scented soy candle workshop Tuesday 8th March, 11am-1pm Make a scented soy wax candle. Bath salts & votive candle Wednesday 9th March, 11am-1pm Use natural ingredients such as Epsom salt and Himalayan salt to create a layered bath mixture in a jar. You will also create a candle in the colour of your choosing. Wax melts and decorated candle workshops Tuesday 15th March, 11am-1pm Using the double boiler method create wax melt which you can use in an oil burner. You will also decorate a pre-made candle. Personalised mini memory album workshops Tuesday 15th, Monday 21st and Tuesday 22nd March, 6-8pm Make a little handcrafted album to treasure important memories. Please bring prints of 4x4 photos to 1st workshop. Book folding workshops Wednesday 16th March, 11am-1pm On trend in craft shops at the moment. Start with a paperback novel and by using a folding technique and a bone folder make a ‘hedgehog’ which can be used to file notes and messages. Creativity Month | Page 02 Pottery Workshops Starts Tuesday 1st March, 7.00pm, at Cloona House, 31 Colin Road, Belfast. Over 4 weeks create a range of objects, from personalised door signage, to decorative bowls and picture frames. Use the pottery wheel and paint the objects you have created. £3 per class. Indoor Bowls for Men Starts Wednesday 2nd March, 10.30am-12.30pm, Sally Gardens Community Centre, Poleglass. Calling all men! Come and learn the art of indoor bowls. Over 4 weeks a professional tutor will be on hand to teach you all the tips and tricks. This traditional craft will help you gain the knowledge to build your very own cob oven, great for pizza making and bread making. Each week you will be taken through a step by step process until a cob oven is completed on the Colin Allotment site. Using natural materials this is a workshop not to be missed. £3 per class. Colin Neighbourhood Partnership & Libraries NI are working in partnership to bring you a full day of activities to celebrate World Book Day. There will be storytelling and arts and crafts, all with a special Gruffalo twist. Free event. Visit locations from the popular TV show including Dunluce castle, Giants Causeway, Balintoy harbour, Carrick-a-Rede rope bridge, the Dark Hedges and more. Gone fishing A series of fishing trips to a fishing lake in County Down. Friday 4th March trip for men, Friday 11th March trip for adults, Saturday 19th March trip for families. Come and watch the highly skilled and diverse trickery of the comedy juggler, Circus Fergus! Juggling knives and riding unicycles are just breakfast for Fergus. It’s when the audience become part of the show that the real hilarity begins. Open to all, no booking required. Especially for the younger kids (4-7 years) this workshop uses a variety of circus equipment such as juggling scarves and balls, flower sticks, and spinning plates. Fun and interactive demonstration shows aimed at 4-11 year olds. Science Magic looks at different tricks that people may think are magic but are actually just science. Spring Dander at Colin Glen Forest Park Saturday 12th March, 10.30am-12.30pm. Join the Belfast Hills team for a seasonal walk along the wooded river valley and look for the first signs of spring. Visit international arts & crafts stations where you will have the opportunity to experience art & crafts from around the world. Participate in traditional Polish, Mexican and Bollywood dance and African drumming circles. There will also be a soda bread baking demonstration and food tasting to tie in with St Patricks Day as well as storytelling in the library for children. This tour will take in the key sites of both the 1916 rising and the memorials to both World War One and those killed during Easter Week, hosted by Dr Eamon Phoenix. The Harlem Gospel Choir at Lagan Valley Arts Centre, Lisburn Thursday 31st March, bus departs Dairy Farm car park at 7.15pm. Performing contemporary gospel with a touch of jazz and blues, the world famous Harlem Gospel Choir is synonymous with power vocals, glorious sound and infectious energy. The Choir have performed alongside superstars such as Bono, Diana Ross, Andre Rieu, Damon Albarn and Pharrell Williams as well as performing for President Obama and President Nelson Mandela.
