Are we ready to meet “The Fockers”? Steps toward Family Inclusivity in a rural TC Why engage with families? Copello and Orford (2002) proposed that an increased emphasis on the role of families and wider social networks in routine service provision can: (i) assist in getting clients into treatment; (ii) improve both substance related outcomes and family functioning; and (iii) lead to the reduction of impacts and harm for family members and others affected, including children. Challenges • Geographical location • Legal issues • Resources • Promotion • Staff confidence • Attitudes (family & • Competing priorities service) Help Available for the Transition NADA Support A new way of working with families and carers Includes: • Service models • Interventions • Practice tips • Resources • CD-Rom Bouverie Centre Training Single session work with families • Better client outcomes • Capacity of the Sector • Limited opportunity to engage with families • Bouverie Resources • 2 days face-to- face training • 1 day booster session • Monthly meetings to discuss implementation The Buttery Program Admissions Week P1 P2 12 weeks 12 weeks Transition 6 weeks Halfway Offer of Family Booking is made 3 months TC Family Inclusive Program • Admin: Family Brochure given to any attending family on admission • Check in with new residents re information that can be sent to family members • Check resident consent forms and mail out Intro Letter, Brochure and TC Timetable • Receive Family and Community calls Wednesday – provide general information and arrange appointments with Family Support Worker if requested • Case Workers: Discuss option of Family Booking with residents in P2; liaise with Family Support Worker • Residents: access support from Community Members; organize booking with Family and Case Worker. • Family Support Worker: Mail out Intro letter, Family Booking Brochure and Family Booking Questionnaire • Contact Family members to establish connection and check agenda items for the booking • • Attend Family Booking – with Resident, Community Member and Family Members Follow up phone call with Family two weeks after booking • Record evaluation feedback Family Booking - Steps Offer of Family Booking is made Family Support Worker FAMILY OF RESIDENT Letter & brochure to family Resident Resident makes arrangements with family for a single session booking with caseworker Caseworker Phone call to Family and a brief questionnaire to Family PRIOR to meeting and co-facilitation for Family Booking Co-Facilitator Family Booking - Follow-Up Resident & Family FAMILY BOOKING Family Support Worker contacts family for follow-up call FOLLOW-UP One and a half hour session 4 weeks Caseworker Co-Facilitator Family Support Worker contacts family to evaluate the session and complete the process.
