very time when you step into an aircraft,
do you feel impressed and awed by its
interior furnishings and equipment? Ever wonder
about the number of skilful hands behind the
impeccable quality of work?
At the presentation ceremony on 26 Jul 2006,
Mr Lui received the COJTC Certificate from Mr
James Ng, Divisional Director of Industry-based
Training, ITE. At the ceremony, which was well
attended by the trainers and trainees, Mr Lui
affirmed that the skills and training gained onthe-job enhanced the staff’s skills repertoire to
make them stay employable and valuable to the
organisation. He highlighted that the company
has an ongoing relationship with ITE as quite a
number of ITE graduates were employed by the
company. Besides presenting certificates to the
OJT Administrator, Programme Developers and
Instructors, special recognition was also given
to two trainee-technicians, Mr Phoong Chee Ming
and Mr Muhd Fadil Mohd Sarif, who have shown
outstanding performances among their peers. Their exemplary results were cited for the rest
to emulate.
Well, wonder no more. The excellent craftsmanship
and standards have been upheld by a team of
aircraft technicians from Singapore JAMCO Pte
Ltd. The final products are testimonies of their
meticulous on-the-job training (OJT) programme.
Mr Lui Choon Seng, General Manager of Singapore
JAMCO Pte Ltd likened the mentorship system to
a part of the company’s culture which they have
been actively practising all the time. Hence, when
the company learnt about ITE’s Certified Onthe-Job Training Centre (COJTC) Scheme, they
wasted no time in coming on board to formalise
their training framework and structure.
Linked to JAMCO Corporation, a renowned
aircraft interior design and manufacturing
company, Singapore JAMCO is a subsidiary of SIA
Engineering Company (SIAEC), which holds a stake
of 65% in the company. The facility is located in
the Loyang aviation hub, specialising in the design,
manufacture, maintenance and repair of aircraft
interior furnishings and equipment, areas where

2006, eight trainers’ workshops
were conducted for a total of
306 industry partners from
diverse industries and sectors,
such as the Service, Healthcare,
Manufacturing,
Engineering,
Food & Beverage, etc. The
participants were our partners
from the Approved Training
Centre, Certified OJT Centre

Workshop on “Towards
Dynamic Coaching”
The topics which had stirred
up so much interest among our
partners were centered mainly
on the “Best Practices for OJT
Implementation – Towards
Dynamic Coaching”, “Strategic
Approach
to
Blueprint
Development”
and
“8-step
Approach to Implement S-OJT
Effectively and Efficiently”.
These topics focused on areas
that were highly relevant and
applicable in their daily work.
There was a strong demand for
the topic on “Towards Dynamic
Coaching”, with a total of 3
workshops conducted. On the
average, each topic saw an
average attendance of about
40 participants per workshop
at the Holiday Inn Park View
Singapore. The overwhelming
response was an encouraging

The COJTC Team will continue
to identify and introduce new
topics on best practices in the
training arena. We look forward
to have your strong support and

on a full-time course in the ITE Skills Certificate
in Healthcare (Homecare) under the Approved
Training Centre (ATC) scheme. The knowledge and
skills gained have enriched the staff as they are
now better equipped in the day-to-day running of

The main objective of the Homes is to care for the
intellectually infirmed patients and provide them
with all the basic and community rehabilitative
programs. The management of Sunlove Abode viewed that the
training has helped to raise the skills level of their

Come on board – ITE Traineeship
Programme!
here are many trainees in companies who remain unnoticed but are faithfully acquiring
knowledge and skills from their employers and contributing to their companies’ productivity. ITE recognises such outstanding trainees and they are often nominated for the prestigious Lee
Kuan Yew Model Trainee Award (please refer to the story below) as well as other top student
awards (e.g. Lee Kuan Yew Gold Medal, Tay Eng Soon Gold Medal and Sng Yew Chong Gold Medal)
during ITE’s Graduation Ceremony.
Every year, we have many secondary school leavers who are keen to take up traineeship as an
alternative route to receiving ITE qualifications and employers who participate in our Traineeship
Scheme stand to enjoy attractive SDF grants.
Annually, ITE conducts traineeship intake exercises during February, September and December
to enable secondary school leavers to take up traineeship. To help applicants fulfil their dreams,
we invite you to participate in our Traineeship Scheme. If you wish to find out more about the
scheme, please contact us via email or telephone. We will be most happy to hear from you!
A good balancing act – juggling both

examinations 10 years ago, Mushaidah, or
Aida as she prefers to be called, did not choose
to further her studies then. Instead, she opted to
join the workforce – a decision which the demure
Aida admitted, was due to her lack of interest in
her studies and the desire to join her friends who
were all working by then.
job experience as a trainee in the Admissions
Department at ITE Headquarters while attending
‘off-the-job’ training at ITE College Central
(Bishan Campus).
A natural performer, Aida excelled in both her
studies and work. Not only did she manage to attain
a cumulative Grade Point Average
(GPA) score of 3.94 for her studies,
the assiduous student with a pleasant
personality also had no problems
providing good customer service when
she helped intake officers to serve
applicants during the traineeship
intake exercise.
Two years ago, Aida decided to
switch from a shift-job in the Food
and Beverage industry to a permanent
day job – a decision made for the sake
of her young daughter. “Because of
the nature of my former job, I wasn’t
able to care for my daughter as much
as I wanted to. When I realised that
she couldn’t even recognise me, her own mother, it
made me decide to switch careers,” she recalled.
“It had been a really fulfilling
experience where I gained ‘Hands-on, Minds-on,
Hearts-on’ training,” reflected a very satisfied
Aida. “All thanks to a bunch of really supportive
and patient lecturers as well as co-workers, I was
able to pick up my skills within just one year.
However, Aida needed the right experience and
paper qualifications before she could take up office
administrative work. Thanks to ITE’s Traineeship
Scheme, Aida got the opportunity to fulfil both
requirements at the same time. For the past
year, through her Nitec in Service Skills (Office)
traineeship programme, Aida had gained on-the-
Having found renewed passion for studying, Aida
wants to further her studies and she will be
starting her Diploma in Business Administration
course with PSB Academy in the near future.
