These measurements basically define the lowest temperature at which the product can be used for the intended application. Mark III is the next generation of jet fuel thermal oxidation analysis providing for faster, simpler testing for compliance testing. Automatic test runs and menu-driven programming guides the operator through either standard ASTM D3241 test or customized test protocols. Precise, continuous computer control of all test functions and operational parameters ensure accurate more repeatable results with increased data collection and a minimal amount of operator time. The efflux time is multiplied by a capillary-specific calibration factor and reported as viscosity. The liquid’s “viscosity index” is calculated by determining its viscosity at two or more temperature points and applying a standard algebraic equation to the data. Viscosity index is an important characteristic of modern lubricating oils. The Cetane ID (CID) 510 is compact and easy to use, with fully automated test and calibration sequences, and is extremely precise. It provides perfect correlation to ASTM D613, and is ideal for biodiesel and biodiesel blends as well as cetane improved samples. Cetane ID 510 offers ‘one-button operation’ for simpler, easier use when calibrating the instrument, or when running a test sample. The electronically controlled injector guarantees high precision in fuel injection volume. It features a user-friendly design and is equipped with automated safety systems. Its high precision exceeds the results of CFR Engine and other CVCC methods, has long-term calibration stability, and has no carry-over effect from previous samples. The CID 510 method has been approved and embodied in ASTM D7668: “Standard Test Method for Determination of Derived Cetane Number (DCN) of Diesel Fuel Oils - Ignition Delay and Combustion Delay Using a Constant Volume Combustion Chamber Method.” PRODUCTS PHYSICAL PROPERTIES VAPOR PRESSURE Vapor pressure measurement identifies the volatility of a petroleum product. In automotive and aviation gasoline, it affects engine starting, warm-up, and tendency for vapor lock at higher temperatures. Because it also relates to evaporation rate, some areas have mandated maximum vapor pressure limits in efforts to control air pollution.
