PHOTO WALK
Sat, April 23, 9:30 am
Capitol Building near East Capitol Ave. and South 2nd St. in
Downtown Springfield, IL.
Cost: $69/person
Length: 2 hours
This class is limited to 20 attendees
Please take the time beforehand to check your camera
bag & pockets for prohibited items.
Please pack light and leave enough time (about
10-15 minutes) to get through security and metal
detectors (pocket knives and weapons are strictly
prohibited). We suggest entering the building
through the north entrance. We will meet in
the rotunda. All street parking is free on the
weekends.
Join us for a tour of the historic Illinois State Capitol. Completed in 1888, the Statehouse features a domed
rotunda measuring 361 feet from the first floor
to the 9,000-piece stained glass seal that caps the
dome. Numerous statues and paintings throughout
the building also provide unique opportunities for
photographers. A massive $50 million restoration
in 2011 returned many of the stained glass features,
frescoes and paintings to their original glory, in
addition to updating many of the mechanical systems.
During this two-hour field trip, our instructors will
show you how to set your camera and lens to capture
high quality images of this magnificent building
in exquisite detail. We will tour the first floor only,
providing opportunities for you to photograph the
rotunda, dome, grand staircase and some of the
artwork and details in the south wing. Take your
architecture photography to the next level as you learn
with the pros during this hands-on photo walk. Please bring your camera, wide-angle lens
and a tripod. A remote and flash may also be
useful.

Landscape, Macro, & HDR
Fri, April 29, 6:00 pm
This class combines three popular topics:
Landscape Photography, High Dynamic Range
(HDR), and Macro Photography into one class
perfect for that big trip. Landscape photography
topics will include composition, depth of field,
filters, lighting and locations. Capturing a wide
range of tones in your image is difficult with a
digital camera. We will introduce you to HDR
photography, which allows you to combine
multiple images to make use of the full tonal range
in the shadows, mid tones and highlights. We
will discuss all of the ways to get the best macro
photographs including different lens choices,
focusing, composition, and other topics involved
with macro photography. Bring your camera to
the class; we will discuss various camera settings as
well as the different lens choices that are available. Creve Coeur Superstore

In the first two-hour session, using our in-class
computers, we will review the interface and
show how to customize it to streamline your raw
processing work-flow. We will review how to
import, catalog, organize and process your digital
files to your liking and export your files as jpeg,
tiff, and Photoshop files. Did you know you can set
your color balance after you shoot with a raw file?
In our second two-hour class we will process files
showing you how to make several “versions” of the
same file to explore your creative possibilities and
how to selectively edit certain areas/tones/colors of
your file (bring in a few of your raw files on a USB
drive or CD so we can show you some options
on how to process them). Do you have hundreds
of images that you want to process and want to
know how to speed up the process? This is the #1
software pros and serious photographers use to get
the best quality from their raw images and batch
process multiple images at once.

In this two hour session we will be discussing the fundamentals of exposure: Shutter
speed, aperture and ISO. Those three features of your camera are what make the picture
look the way it does. Understanding how and when to use them is a huge advantage.
This class takes a deeper look into Program, Aperture Priority, Shutter Priority and
Manual modes. Using these modes, you can explore the creative side of your camera
while also gaining a lot of control over your DSLR. Start telling your camera what to do
instead of hoping it does what you want.

various photographic situations. We break down
difficult situations to shoot and how to use your
exposure compensation controls to get the picture
you want. We will also talk about ‘stops’ of light and
how you can have equivalent exposures to a scene. We
explain why shooting in Manual Mode may be the best
option for some situations. Other topics will include
how shutter speed affects flash, bracketing, metering

different modes by taking some photos in the class and

to balance your flash exposure with the overall scene
