Simonds has been making knives in the United States for more than 150 years, the company was established in Fitchburg, Massachusetts in 1832. Like our phone hold message says – “Since Andrew Jackson was President”! We make chipper knives to OEM tolerances, our Big Rapids knife plant is smack
in the middle of many brush chipper OEM’s, and we work directly with many of them.
We make brush chipper knives from the same
modified A8 chipper knife steel that we specify
for all of our sawmill and papermill chipper
knives. We make no compromises on raw material, period.
Within our Big Rapids plant we run a lean manufacturing cell dedicated to brush chipper production. Brush chippers are not an afterthought for
Simonds, we have a dedicated line for them. Included in that line is a one-of-a-kind semiautomatic, magazine-fed bevel mill that we designed internally and had built at our Armstrong
Mfg. plant in Portland, Oregon (Armstrong is a
household name in sawmill filing rooms – Armstrong equipment is found in most North American sawmills and in fact in sawmills all over the
world).
Well made knives will run longer before changes and cut down time in the field. They’ll take less to
sharpen so you’ll get longer runs and more runs, meaning you can run a premium US made knife
without spending more money to do it.
