The Triumphant Return of
The Bob Campanell Band
The Annual June Barbeque will be held here in
Collingswood at our Grand Ballroom on Friday, June 26th.
It will feature the long anticipated return of Lumpy’s
Barbeque food and the triumphant return of the Bob
Campanell Band to provide live music.
Singer, songwriter, Bob Campanell played his first gig in
September of 1965 in Runnemede, NJ, where he grew up.
As early as 1970 he was performing his own music in concert opposite groups like the
Monkees, Grass Roots and Jay and the Americans. Bob and his early bands, The Upper Hand and Dragonwyck
played the Jersey Shore at The Dunes, Bay Shores Tony Mart’s, Steel Pier and the NJ State Fair. He appeared on
the teen TV show “Aquarama” performing his first record “Chasing Rainbows” in 1968.
In 1976 Bob and his band, The Shakes, moved to Asbury Park, NJ where they became the house band at the
legendary Stone Pony. For the next five years he shared the stage with Bruce Springsteen, The E Street Band,
Meatloaf, Bo Diddley, Cheap Trick, Sam & Dave, Jack Bruce and South Side Johnny to name a few. A young
man by the name of Jon Bon Jovi opened for Bob and in a recent interview said that Bob was one of the artists
that impressed him most while growing up.
Lumpy’s Barbeque catered their first dinner for us last June and made such a strong impressive debut that
we are honored to have them back this year. Not too many changes to the menu this time, but why mess with
success.
And even though this dinner will be held in our elegant Ballroom with the usual fine refreshments, it is a
CASUAL night. The only business will be the presentation of scholarships to some very worthy students.
Details on the menu, and how to make a reservation, are on page 4.

THE JROTC AWARD
On Tuesday, May 5th John R. Bradshaw, 32°, MSA presented
the “Ancient and Accepted Scottish Rite of Freemasonry,
Northern Jurisdiction, U.S.A Award in recognition of Scholastic
Excellence and Demonstrated Americanism in supporting the
United States as a member of the JROTC” to Riverside H.S.
JROTC Cadet Haley Mitchell at Merion Caterers in Cinnaminson,
N.J. It is strictly by coincidence that Haley is the daughter of
Debbie and Russel E. Mitchell, Jr, 32°, a member and an officer
of our Valley.
The JROTC Award from the Scottish Rite is presented by both
the Northern and Southern Jurisdictions to High School
students throughout the country, and the recipients are selected
by the individual JROTC programs of those schools and the
Supreme Councils. There have been several presentations in
our Valley this year and we congratulate all the recipients.
