2015 Business Awards Recognized in November
Chamber members, board of directors and
guests recognized the 2015 Business Award
recipients with a ceremony and cocktail
reception on Thurs., Nov. 5 at the Eichelberger
Performing Arts Center, presented by Hanover
Hospital and APPI Energy.
In addition to naming award recipients, the
Chamber recognized outgoing Chairman
of the Board, Mark Riggs, Hanover Capital
Management, and retiring Board Directors Bert
Elsner II, Elsner Engineering, and Mike Moyer,
CH Reed.
Stambaugh Ness, winner of the 2015 Corporate
Challenge, was presented with the travelling
trophy by last year’s winning team from
Snyder’s-Lance.

because she quickly learned that she missed
the fulfillment she found in recruiting and
staffing.

for the Hanover Chamber, and also
serves on the board of the Hanover Area
Young Professionals. She is dedicated

Military and Veterans with Flag

Kapp Advertising Service Receives
Award for General Excellence
Kapp Advertising Service, Inc., publishers of eleven
Merchandisers in central Pennsylvania and northern Maryland,
was recognized by their peers in a recent awards competition in
San Antonio, Texas. The Independent Free Papers of America,
an continental trade association representing over 150 publishing
companies and over 500 papers across the United States and
Canada, judges papers annually for this prestigious award. After
initial judging by journalism professors, the finalists are presented
to their peers for the final stage of judging.
Valerie Stokes, CEO and Jane Means, General Manager were in
San Antonio to accept the award on behalf of Robert S. Kapp,
Chairman of the Board and the founder of Kapp Advertising
over 65 years ago. Only 1st, 2nd and 3rd Places were honored
for General Excellence in each of the four categories divided by
editorial volume.
Camping World, the nation’s largest RV and outdoor retailer, and
Good Sam, the world’s largest RV owners organization, have
continued a tradition of honoring present and past members of
the armed forces by installing a massive American flag at their
Hanover, Pennsylvania RV SuperCenter. The 40x80’ flag flies on
a 130’ pole that was installed as part of a project that Camping
World and Good Sam began in February of 2014 to show their
ongoing appreciation of America’s veterans and active military
members.
Camping World in Hanover, which is located at 2100 Baltimore
Pike, held an official flag raising ceremony on Mon., Oct. 26.
Members of the local VFW organizations and local military,
veterans and the community members were on site to assist the
dealership with raising the American flag, and heard a musical
tribute of Taps played during the ceremony.
Currently, the massive American flag flies high at over 35 Camping
World SuperCenters across the country.
Kapp Advertising received the award for General Excellence on
the basis of excellence of overall product, encompassing editorial,
format and design, advertising content, and printing quality.
Kapp Advertising Service employs over 120 people and reaches
over 288,000 households each week in central Pennsylvania and
northern Maryland.

Feed-A-Friend Marathon on WHVR 1280 AM
WHVR’s 30th annual Hanover Foods
Feed-A-Friend Marathon, an on-air
program to collect food for the hungry in
our community, will be held Dec. 9 to 11.
The goal is 128,000 cans.
New Hope Ministries, Hanover’s
food bank, uses the food and financial
contributions to stock their depleted
shelves and provide meals to hungry
families and individuals in the Hanover
community during the holidays and
throughout the entire year.
Businesses, schools, organizations and
individuals can support the marathon by
organizing a food drive, donating canned
and nonperishable food items or by making
a financial pledge.
By participating in the Feed-A-Friend
Marathon, you’ll be helping the needy in
our community and earning recognition for
your efforts on the radio. In advance, you
can pledge a number of items to be donated
every hour of the marathon and WHVR air
personalities will read your pledge on-air at
the beginning of each hour.
Please consider supporting the 30th annual
Hanover Foods Feed-A-Friend Marathon
on WHVR 1280 to help provide food to
those who will be hungry this winter and

Energy-Saving
Incentives for Business
City Sidewalks, Busy Sidewalks
Planning your downtown shopping trip? Don’t worry about the
meters - parking is free all day Fridays and Saturdays from Nov.
27 through Dec. 19 to encourage shoppers to visit downtown
during the holiday season thanks to the Hanover Borough!
Join Met-Ed at the Dec. 16 Eye-Opener
Breakfast to learn about rebates for
energy efficiency retrofits available from
FirstEnergy’s Pennsylvania utilities (MetEd, Penelec, Penn Power and West Penn
Power). Business customers are eligible
for rebates on lighting retrofits, HVAC
replacements, food service equipment
and more. By taking advantage of these
incentives, businesses can reduce their
energy use and lower operating costs with
long-term savings.
Rebates are calculated at 5 cents for every
kilowatt-hour (kWh) saved annually. And
through January 31, 2016, governmental,
non-profit and institutional customers may
be eligible for a bonus rebate of 2 cents per
kWh saved for a total rebate of 7 cents per
kWh saved.

familiar old Bing Crosby tune has come alive in Hanover again
this year, as Main Street Hanover rings in the holiday season.
Gather your family and mark the calendar for the exciting annual
events in downtown Hanover.

Check off your gift list in no time at all by visiting downtown
Hanover shops and retailers. Look for the Downtown Gift Guide
on the Main Street Hanover facebook page for ideas and tips for
shopping for those hard to buy for friends and family. The guide
will have gift ideas for everyone from your neighbors, co-workers,
foodie friends, the newlyweds, and even the white elephant gifts
for your holiday parties. It will include the gift ideas themselves
along with the gift cost, holiday deals, and pictures to help you
narrow down your search.
It’s Christmas Time in the City
Remember to pick up your passport for the 2nd Annual Christmas
Tree Wars! Many downtown merchants will again be participating
in this unique and festive contest. Get your passports at the
Chamber office or any participating location. Vote for your
favorite trees by donating cash at the location or dropping of your
votes at the Chamber Office. The tree with the most cash votes
will win people’s choice! Proceeds from the votes will be used for
the future Christmas events in downtown.

tree lighting
ceremony.
Santa has made
his arrival to
Hanover, and has
set up shop in
his cabin on the
square for the remainder of the holiday season to greet families
and children as he has traditionally done for generations. As
always, you are more than welcome to bring your own camera
to take free photos. And remember, most times there will be a
line to see Santa, so dress accordingly and please be patient with
everyone!
