Snofest offers a wonderfully diverse range of events and activities for children, young people, families and seniors, all of which remind us how important it is to celebrate the seasons, embrace winter and remain active. For more details, visit: www.peterboroughsnofest.ca 5 Showplace Presents: Snofest Idol Sunday, January 17, 2016 at 2 pm Showplace Performance Centre, 290 George St. N. ❆ Contest is open to singers only (no bands or groups), 12 to 22 years of age and that presently lives in Peterborough City or County. Each contestant is required to provide their own recorded back up music or an acoustic instrument you play yourself. ❆ Entries are to be submitted from Tuesday December 1st 2015 until Friday December 18th 2015 at 3 pm. Entry forms and one song must be submitted with a YouTube link or mp3 file to [email protected]. Entry forms will be available on the website on Tuesday December 1st following the press conference at 11 am. ❆ All entries will receive a confirmation by email within 24 hours of submitting the entry. ❆ 8 contestants will be selected by Thursday December 31st and the eight finalists will be announced at the Evinrude Centre on Saturday January 2nd 2016 at 10:30 am during the Snofest Skate. ❆ All selected contestants should come prepared to sing 2 songs at Snofest Idol. Prizes First Prize: Snofest Disc Golf The Hamilton Park Disc Golf Course is happy to show off their brand new beginner nine hole disc golf course at Hamilton Park! This Disc Golf Course fundraiser will run from 12 pm to 3 pm. Bring your frisbee if you have one (or discs will be supplied) and warm clothes for outside and you will be ready to begin the course. Volunteers will be on hand to show the public tips for playing disc golf. For $5.00 you can play nine holes of golf and refreshments, including a hamburger or hotdog and a warm drink. http://hamiltonparkdiscgolf.ptbo.org/ $200 and gets to play in the Nexicom Studio at Showplace prior to the 8pm theatre show and again during intermission. 11:15 am Lower Level of Peterborough Public Library 10 am to 12:20 pm – 20 minutes shows geared to younger kids 1 pm to 4 pm – 30 minute shows geared to older kids $2 per person Peterborough Planetarium is an interactive showcase of the entire cosmos, travelling in a modern spaceship exploring the Sun, planets, moons, and meteor showers as well as touring stars, constellations and other galaxies beyond our own Milky Way. Shows run throughout the day (each show is 20 minutes) at a cost of $2.00 per person. Snofest Curling Saturday January 9th 12:00 - 2:00 pm The Peterborough Curling Club is opening up the ice from 12 – 2 pm on Saturday January 9th for the public to try throwing a rock or sweeping a broom – kids and adults are welcome to come check it out! We are excited to have the Council For Persons With Disabilities back again this year! They will also be on the ice from 12-2 pm as part of their Active Together Project with wheelchair curlers. It’s going to be an afternoon of fun and excitement with all of the action on the ice! 14 Join us at the Evinrude IGA Pad on Saturday January 2nd 2016 from 9:45 am to 11:15 for a free family skate with Snofest Pete! We will also be announcing the eight Snofest Idol finalists that morning at 10:30 am. Snofest Turtle Day Saturday January 23rd, 2016 11 a.m. - 4:00 pm Come to the Kawartha Turtle Trauma Centre on Saturday January 23 from 11 am to 4 pm for a close up look at the turtles and a chance to meet the staff and volunteers. Admission is free for this special Snofest Turtle Day and it’s a great chance to see the centre and learn about the KTTC and the work it does rehabilitating and releasing injured turtles! Music By Jake Sunday January 24th, 2016 2:00 - 3:00 pm Come on out to the Peterborough Public Library, for children’s songwriter and family performer Jake Differ, a three-time Parents Choice award winner and Juno nominee! Your young ones will sing and clap their hands for one hour of enjoyable entertainment! The concert is free but tickets are required. Tickets will be available beginning Monday January 4th, 2016 and must be picked up in person at the Children’s area of the library. 15
