Barkley “Lake News”
Ten Boats head to Tennessee to battle it out on
Lake Barkley.
Saturday, all we saw was rain and a few fish.
Waters were rising and getting muddier as the day
progressed. Fish were pretty hard to find too.
Brian and Mark Forrest were carrying big sticks
when they hit the waters of Lake Barkley. With
rainy conditions they were still able to bring in a
total weight of 33.54 lbs using jigs and shakey
heads. This stringer is the 5th largest in HH history. On day one, they brought 9 fish to the scales
weighing over 25 lbs. Brian also had BB on Saturday weighing 4.18lbs. Congratulations on a great
win. First Place payout was $154.

Sunday was drier, but the floating debris gathered
on all the banks and made it pretty tough to find a
clean area of water to fish.
Water temps held steady between 58-63 degrees.
Water levels were slightly above normal on Friday
and by noon on Sunday, they were 2-3 foot high.
Air temps ranged from the low 50s to nearly 60
degrees. All in all, everyone I talked to liked the
lake but didn’t like the weather. The time/distance
traveled was about the same as heading to Pomme
and less than Table Rock.
Better weather could make this a favorite lake???

Rain, rain, rain.....that was the main event for this past weekend of fishing. Everyone’s rain gear got a good
work out and some of us found out we need new gear.
With rain falling and the lake rising, it made for some tough fishing. At least for some of us...excluding the
team of Forrest and Forrest who scared all of us with their first day weight.
Hope to see you-all at Pomme!

Three of us braved more than just fishing in the rain...we camped in it too. Yes it was wet but it was still fun.
Everyone enjoyed making fun of us in our nice little wet tents, but they all told us to come and stay in the dry
rooms they had. The best part was sitting around the wet wood, spraying lighter fluid on it, saying its going to
burn this time. Most of the time camping is fun and Dad and I will be camping at most of the tournaments this
year, so if you want to give it a try, just come on down. Remember, there is nothing better than a steak and
fried taters cookin over an open fire, or listening to the sounds of the crickets chirping as you fall to sleep.

This lake was like a cross between Lake of the Ozarks and table rock; you had docks, rocks and stick ups to
fish. The bite was great until Saturday and by Sunday it had pretty much stopped. The front that came with
the rain gave the bass lock jaw. But I think all the teams who came to this one will all agree that we want it
back on the schedule for next year.

With a lot of work, a handful
of HHers pulled this off. We
learned a lot from it too. We had
intentions to make more money
for the club, but that didn’t happen. However...Those that fished
the tourney did comment that
this was the most professionally
held tourney they have fished. A
HUGE thank you to all the HH
members that gave up their time
to help. (Greg and Andy Shands,
Dan Durbin, Bob Treadway, Bryan Slaughter, Mike Jankowski
and Chris Himstedt)
