-FXJT$MBSL April-May 2012 Volume 1, Issue 1 Premiere Edition #-6&(3"44 0 3( " /*; "5 *0/ LewisClarkBluegrass.org Lewis Clark Bluegrass Organization Unveiled S cott and Karen Lombard started this trek last year when they organized and promoted the Valley Bluegrass Stage, designed after the Inland Northwest Bluegrass Association’s Spokane Music Showcase. Quickly realizing this event would benefit from additional bluegrass-enthused people sharing the load, they were happy to accept the help of Tom Maechtle and Denis and Kris Hackwith. Together we brainstormed the names of other people to ask and were pleased to welcome aboard Ray Rosch and Alane Watkins. We all met to compile by-laws and complete Articles Of Incorporation for a non-profit organization. That paperwork was filed with the State of Washington and LCBO was officially incorporated on November 7, 2011. Besides the Valley Bluegrass Stage we hope to sponsor bluegrass instrument and songwriting workshops, jam sessions and festivals. We are currently shooting for a Lewis Clark Bluegrass Festival June 28 & 29, 2013 at the Nezperce County Fairgrounds. We will definitely need a lot of volunteers and sponsorships from the community. We hope to complement other Bluegrass Organizations such as the Idaho Sawtooth Bluegrass Association out of Central and South Idaho, the Inland Northwest Bluegrass Board of Directors President: Scott Lombard — 509-780-3730 Vice President: Tom Maechtle — 509-751-1271 Treasurer: Denis Hackwith — 208-553-5091 Association from the Spokane area, the Washington Bluegrass Association and the Idaho Bluegrass Association by creating more opportunities and venues for bluegrass musicians to perform and for bluegrass fans to enjoy. Valley Bluegrass Stage Highlights Prior to the October 8, 2011 Valley Bluegrass Stage, we hosted a free workshop for kids from 3:00 – 5:00 pm. It was led by Raynae Redman. She is the director of the Kids in Bluegrass group from the Whitebird, Grangeville, Kamiah areas. It mostly served as a rehearsal for the Kids in Bluegrass group to open the show at 7:00 pm. Also performing that night were Milltown, Higher Ground and Grassville. Grassville traveled the farthest, as they came from North Idaho. The January 14, 2012 Valley Bluegrass Stage brought our highest attended concert of record, at over 520, including paid admissions, free tickets won by KRLC radio listeners and children under 10. Thorn Creek Express, the band of four brothers from the Palouse region of Idaho, opened the show. Beargrass “Bare” (duo), also a local favorite, performed their acoustic set. Wanigan, still honing and growing their own style of bluegrass storytelling after five years, presented some new songs in addition to the familiar ones. A special treat was the Bressler Trio, comprised of Ina and her two children, Solina and Jarin, singing three part harmony in Norwegian folk music and several gospel bluegrass songs in the style of The Isaacs and Dailey and Vincent. They are from northern Idaho. Closing the show were the Panhandle Polecats, five brothers and sisters from North Idaho who are all terrific musicians and delightful entertainers.
