The most likely score may not exceed the player's Equitable Stroke Control limit. This most likely score should be preceded by an "X” There is no limit to the number of unfinished holes a player may have in a round, provided that failure to finish is not for the purpose of handicap manipulation. This type of ready position will cause a player to be half a step slower when moving to their own shot. The better ready position is featured by Bob Grappone in image 2, with bent knees and body weight slightly forward over his toes. Staying on your toes will make you react quicker and make your first step to the ball faster. Regardless of where on the court you are positioned, make sure your ready position favors image 2. Jamie Stevenson Tennis Maintenance Supervisor/ PTR Instructor In October, Bonita Bay tennis again hosted the 2 day Har-Tru Clay Court Maintenance Seminar. This seminar attracts people nationwide to learn best practices and become certified clay court specialists. Bonita Bay Club is one of the few clubs in the country to offer an amazing tool that can help you improve your cross court rallying skills. Whether you’re playing singles or doubles, the Playsight practice drills can help you elevate your baseline game to new heights. When you’re in the “worker bee” position at the baseline, your goal is to set up your partner at the net so he/she can put the ball away. In order to do that, you must be able to consistently: · · · · · Hit rally balls past the service line (deuce and ad court) Handle certain spins (topspin or slice) Adjust your feet when you get a short ball Back up quickly if you get a high ball that lands near the baseline Stay patient and wait for your opponent to make a mistake first Please see anyone of our professional staff if you would like to take a lesson Here are a few interesting facts about the clay we play on: on Playsight. Key Differences Saunas and steam rooms invoke the therapeutic use of high heat to relax muscles and promote sweating. The most significant difference between the two is the type of heat. • A sauna provides dry heat with room temperatures ranging from 165 – 185 degrees. • A steam room operates at lower temperatures, typically around 110 - 120 degrees, keeping humidity at 100% to maintain moist heat. It is easy to see why it is so easy to overeat during this time of the year, but if you watch your portions and try some simple healthy eating tips, you will be able to enjoy your favorite holiday foods without worrying about holiday weight gain. • • • • • • Try these tips: •Give traditional holiday dishes a makeover; use lower-fat and lowercalorie substitutions whenever possible. •Don’t “save” yourself for the big Thanksgiving meal. You will likely overeat! •Have a healthy snack before dinner. •Toss the turkey skin. •Watch your portions and try to fill your plate half full with colorful veggies. Choose only foods that you really want and again, be mindful of portions. Eat slowly and chew your food well. Limit sweets. Stick to your exercise routine, but if you can’t get to the gym or the gym is closed, take a walk with family or friends after dinner. Don’t wear loose fitting clothing or pants with elastic waist bands. And finally, don’t try to diet during the holidays! A sore throat, achy muscles and a runny nose can make you miserable, but if you still have the energy to exercise, should you? That is a great question and a timely one given the amount of holiday travel that goes on between Thanksgiving and New Year’s and the “airline colds” that are usually associated with it. The answer is a fairly simple one… use the “above the neck rule.” Most experts agree that when symptoms are above the neck like a stuffy head, congestion, or a sore throat that it is ok to work out if you feel up to it. Take the intensity down a little, and let your body be the guide. If you feel worse after working out, rather than better, you should take some time off to rest. When you have symptoms like coughing, body aches, and fatigue, it is best that you wait until these symptoms subside before you start exercising again. And, fever is definitely a limiting factor. Raising your body temp like what happens when you exercise can make you even sicker. If you are exercising with a cold, gym etiquette says to use a towel and put it down on every surface you touch and clean the equipment once you are done. Always cover your mouth and nose when you cough or sneeze and be sure to wash your hands afterward. Don’t underestimate the value of hand washing in preventing the spread of colds and the flu. We recommend that you wash your hands or use sanitizing gel before and after your workouts. After all, the best treatment for a cold is to prevent it in the first place! It has been practiced for thousands of years, and though it was originally meant to help deepen the understanding of the sacred and mystical forces of life, it is used these days to promote relaxation and to reduce stress. During meditation, you will learn breathing techniques, proper postures, and thoughtful exercises that sharpen the most valuable tool you have, the mind. When you meditate, you learn to focus your mind and clear away the information overload that contributes to your everyday stresses.
