Fall Season off to an Incredible Start
The 2015 fall season has seen an incredible start as many of our seasonal members
have returned back to Southwest Florida to re-connect with all of their year-round
friends at Bonita Bay Club.
The Creekside golf course renovation was a great success and is sure to receive rave
reviews. All of the tournaments have been well subscribed to; including the Men’s Fall
Member Member which had a record amount of players registered, and the Original
Marsh Classic is a sell-out.
It is not too early to begin thinking about Family Fun Golf Day which will be held on
December 29th. This is a great opportunity to bring the entire family out for a day of
golf and activities that include a 14 hole tournament, 4 hole fun course with large cups,
free lessons and clinics, lunch on the driving range, and some new activities for this year.
Detailed information will be coming soon in our weekly From the Tee email blasts.
Your Golf Staff is here to assist with any of your needs, please do not hesitate to
contact us at any time with any questions or suggestions to make your experience better.
See you soon,

Unfinished Holes and Conceded Strokes
A player who starts, but does not complete a hole or is conceded
a stroke must record for handicap purposes the most likely score.
The most likely score may not exceed the player's Equitable Stroke
Control limit. This most likely score should be preceded by an "X”
There is no limit to the number of unfinished holes a player may have
in a round, provided that failure to finish is not for the purpose of
handicap manipulation.
If a player does not play a hole or plays it other than under the
principles of the Rules of Golf (except for preferred lies), the score
recorded for that hole for handicap purposes must be par plus any
handicap strokes the player is entitled to receive on that hole.

It seems like everyone is back in full swing! Members are playing lots of tennis!
Leagues have started, round robins are scheduled and members are reserving courts for
their weekly games. Please let us know if you would like some help getting a game. We
have so many ways to get members involved. Please remember the monthly New Member

Just take a look at the number of new events and teaching programs we have scheduled this year!
Please remember “Need a Fourth Fridays”. Paula will play in as a fourth in any game she is requested for...
complimentary of course!
Many thanks to our Naples-Ft. Myers Challenge Committee Chairs, Phil Otero and Lee O’Daniel. They have been

members that have agreed to volunteer for this event.
We have over 41 NEW and special events this year, a 100% increase from last year! The club championships are back
and we have 5 new teaching programs for the season!

Ready Position is More Than Just Your Raquet in Front of You
Most players’ ready positions look like image 1, with straight knees and heels on the ground and weight over their heels. This
type of ready position will cause a player to be half a step slower when moving to their own shot.
The better ready position is featured by Bob Grappone in image 2, with bent knees and body weight slightly forward over
his toes. Staying on your toes will make you react quicker and make your first step to the ball faster.
Regardless of where on the court you are positioned, make sure your ready position favors image 2.
See you on the courts!

improve your cross court rallying
skills. Whether you’re playing singles

drills can help you elevate your
baseline game to new heights.
When you’re in the “worker bee”
position at the baseline, your goal is
to set up your partner at the net so he/she can put the ball away.
In order to do that, you must be able to consistently:
·

·
Hit rally balls past the service line (deuce and ad court)
Handle certain spins (topspin or slice)
Adjust your feet when you get a short ball
Back up quickly if you get a high ball that lands near the baseline
Stay patient and wait for your opponent to make a mistake first

How to Spa
Steam Room VS. Sauna
Whether you are new to Spa or a regular Spa enthusiast,
we have included some helpful tips to ensure you get
the most from your Spa experience:
Arrival
Give yourself plenty of time to decompress and
enjoy the luxurious amenities available to you. We
suggest that you arrive at least 30 minutes prior to
your scheduled service to relax and prepare for your
treatment while enjoying the eucalyptus steam room,
sauna, Swiss shower, or mineral whirlpool. If this is your
first time visiting the Spa, a tour will be provided with
locker room attendants available to help facilitate your
personal journey.
Key Differences
Saunas and steam rooms invoke the therapeutic use of high heat to relax muscles
and promote sweating.
The most significant difference between the two is the type of heat.
• A sauna provides dry heat with room temperatures ranging from 165 – 185
degrees.
• A steam room operates at lower temperatures, typically around 110 - 120
degrees, keeping humidity at 100% to maintain moist heat.

Pain Management
Heat has an analgesic or pain relieving effect due to its ability to create more
effective blood flow. Painful conditions caused by inflammation such as arthritis
and fibromyalgia can be temporarily managed through heat treatments like those
found in both saunas and steam rooms.

Don’t Be Stuffed like the Turkey
Thanksgiving is a holiday centered around family, friends, and of course,
the high calorie foods that we look forward to all year long. It is easy to
see why it is so easy to overeat during this time of the year, but if you
watch your portions and try some simple healthy eating tips, you will be
able to enjoy your favorite holiday foods without worrying about holiday
weight gain.
•
•
•
•
•
•
Try these tips:
•Give traditional holiday dishes a makeover; use lower-fat and lowercalorie substitutions whenever possible.
•Don’t “save” yourself for the big Thanksgiving meal. You will likely
overeat!
•Have a healthy snack before dinner.
•Toss the turkey skin.
•Watch your portions and try to fill your plate half full with colorful
veggies.
Choose only foods that you really want and again, be mindful of portions.
Eat slowly and chew your food well.
Limit sweets.
Stick to your exercise routine, but if you can’t get to the gym or the gym is closed, take a walk with family or friends after dinner.
Don’t wear loose fitting clothing or pants with elastic waist bands.
And finally, don’t try to diet during the holidays!

Should You Exercise When you Are Sick?
A sore throat, achy muscles and a runny nose can make you miserable, but if you still have the
energy to exercise, should you? That is a great question and a timely one given the amount of
holiday travel that goes on between Thanksgiving and New Year’s and the “airline colds” that
are usually associated with it. The answer is a fairly simple one… use the “above the neck
rule.”
Most experts agree that when symptoms are above the neck like a stuffy head, congestion, or
a sore throat that it is ok to work out if you feel up to it. Take the intensity down a little, and
let your body be the guide. If you feel worse after working out, rather than better, you should take some time off to rest.
When you have symptoms like coughing, body aches, and fatigue, it is best that you wait until these symptoms subside before you
start exercising again. And, fever is definitely a limiting factor. Raising your body temp like what happens when you exercise can
make you even sicker.
If you are exercising with a cold, gym etiquette says to use a towel and put it down on every surface you touch and clean the
equipment once you are done. Always cover your mouth and nose when you cough or sneeze and be sure to wash your hands
afterward.
Don’t underestimate the value of hand washing in preventing the spread of colds and the flu. We recommend that you wash your
hands or use sanitizing gel before and after your workouts. After all, the best treatment for a cold is to prevent it in the first place!

Medicine for the Mind and the Body: Guided Meditation
Meditation can wipe away the day’s stress, bringing with it a calm and inner peace. It has been
practiced for thousands of years, and though it was originally meant to help deepen the understanding of the sacred and mystical forces of life, it is used these days to promote relaxation and to
reduce stress.
During meditation, you will learn breathing techniques, proper postures, and thoughtful exercises
that sharpen the most valuable tool you have, the mind. When you meditate, you learn to focus
your mind and clear away the information overload that contributes to your everyday stresses.
Meditation may also improve other health conditions including high blood pressure and may help
you sleep better.
Interested? We are offering a Guided Meditation Workshop beginning Monday November 2nd at 7:00 a.m. Workshop dates are:
Sunrise Meditation at 7:00 a.m. (Nov. 2, 9, & 16)
Mid-day Meditation at noon (Nov. 6, 13, & 20)

"Exotic" Species
Recently, the little red hen has arrived in the parking lot at the Naples facility but no one knows where
she came from! Originally there were 3 but now this one seems to be doing very well as she clucks to greet
Bonita Bay members in the parking lot, usually the last row, or even on the tee box of Sabal #1.
