Although the garment was made of scarlet cloth, from then on it was always referred to as PINK in honour of its originator. Scrupulous attention to detail, exclusive fabric and exquisite craftsmanship were its very hallmarks. Today, audaciously resplendent in my own hunting PINK, I am a reminder of Tailor Pink’s tradition of excellence; workmanship which is carried on in this collection of meticulously crafted shirts. T he Cheeky Fox Freddie Plain Superslim Fit Shirt, button cuff, white: $195 Vaughan Jeans, blue: $250 Zoom Stripe Knitted Tie, pale blue/red: $135 Mock Croc Belt, black: $185 Classic Short Wool Socks, red: $33 05 Anatomy of a Pink SHIRT Semi Cutaway collar with removable collarbones Super fine two-fold cotton Raised placket Twin needle seams Split yoke for comfort and style Two sleeve lengths 18 stitches per inch Double cuff or button cuff options Cross stitched button Signature Pink gusset CLASSIC FIT: The original that made our name and yours, we hope. This style is a modern take on the classic Jermyn Street cut and is generously designed for style and comfort with a split yoke across the shoulders. Features a long tail that stays tucked in and our signature ‘Pink’ gusset. Meticulous Pink TO PUT ON A PINK SHIRT IS TO SPORT AN EXERCISE IN PERFECTION Every Pink shirt has a singular trait: it has been crafted to the same exacting standard, keeping alive the impeccable heritage of London’s Jermyn Street, home of traditional British shirtmaking. Constructed from the finest quality, two-fold cotton, immaculately cut and finished, our shirts are crisp, comfortable and always look the part, from the boardroom to the clubhouse. THE FINE DETAILS Our shirts are made using traditional methods. The collar alone is composed of up to 14 different pieces and every collar is hand turned. THE STORY ABOUT YARNS SLIM FIT: A contemporary SUPER SLIM FIT: A lean, shirt that is tailored, but not tight. The fit is slim through the chest, waist and hip. The two unique side panels add contour and shape. With straight hem (no tails). The last buttonhole is stitched with Pink thread. cleanly cut shirt with modern proportions. Does what it says on the tin. Features a short collar with top stitching. Looks great with a skinny tie. We design our own fabrics, working with world-renowned mills to achieve our uniquely ‘Pink’ shirting. A COMPANY OF COLLARS Pink shirts offer a wide range of collar styles, from Semi Cutaway (the most popular choice) to the Extreme Cutaway (the very definition of statement styling). DISCOVER MORE 07 ALL YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT SHIRTS IS TO KNOW WHAT YOU LIKE PIECING TOGETHER YOUR PERSONAL PREFERENCES People can get a little stiff when it comes to upper-body garments (‘stuffed shirts’?), but really, once you’ve chosen your fit (see previous page), there are just a couple of other fundamentals to consider when purchasing this fine item of attire. And we couldn’t be more serious on the subject of shirts. COLLAR POINTERS WHILE THE IRON’S HOT… The rulebook on collar correctness flew out of the window some time ago, with fashion designers even showing Button Down Collars with suits and ties. The short of it is that one can be more bold these days when it comes to the cut of the collar. Progress, indeed (any tradition, as long as it’s modern). Step out strikingly – wrinkle-free and faultless – with Pink’s five-point ironing instructions. MASTERING THE SQUARE T he pinch 1. Start with one sleeve. Iron from the centre outward. Semi Cutaway: The most traditional collar, permitting any tie to stand ‘proud’. Works equally well when top button is undone. Cutaway: A contemporary collar, fashioned a bit wider to allow a fuller knot. Also looks splendid with no tie, under a blazer. Extreme Cutaway: A wider take on the Cutaway, which subtly frames the face, drawing attention to your tie. Pinpoint: Always on the button for a crisp appearance, whether you’re dressing up or down. Pinpoint combines a fine, light weave with a high thread count for a less transparent feel than Poplin. 2. Turn your attention to the cuff. If single button, iron with the buttons facing skyward. If double cuff, unfold fully and iron flat. Then, fold back and iron again, paying particular attention to the fold. Repeat steps 1 and 2 for the other sleeve and cuff. the Full Windsor A symmetrical, full knot which wraps the wearer up in confidence, although it’s a doddle to tie (see doodle). Ideal for formal situations, it looks best on cutaway collars. Uses a lot of tie and can shorten tie on wearer, so avoid if tall or longer in the neck department. 3. Place the back of the shirt (inside facing down) on the board. Pull the shirt tight and iron flat. To ensure the back pleat is ironed evenly, position it on the edge of the board, running parallel to one side. While ironing in the pleat, hold the shirt tight. Repeat this step from the other side. Button Down: Effortlessly stylish under a sweater with casual trousers. Pair with a tie for an Ivy-League look or confound convention by adding suit and tie. the bow tie 2. Gently pinch with right hand. 3. Hold up in right hand and lightly shake. 4. Grasp loosely with left hand. 5. Take hold of the lower half with right hand and fold widthwise. 6. Keep a light hold of the folded square in right hand. 7. Open breast pocket with left hand and tuck in with right. 8. Rearrange square with index fingers and thumbs. The successor to the cravat, the bow tie always cuts a dash. If confident and nifty with the old fingers, tie your own. Otherwise, invest in a ready-tied model. DISCOVER MORE 4. Iron the collar from the tips inward. Turn the collar Wing: Shows off the full run of a bow tie. Wings should sit ‘horizontally’ and not point up to the chin. 1. Spread square over the flat of the left hand. A modest, ever dependable version of the Windsor Knot, which can be used with any formal shirt. Crucial to a successful Half Windsor is ‘the pinch’; neaten and tighten. Cotton Oxford: Oxford fabric is woven with a basket-weave construction, creating a robust shirting that’s both soft and strong. It is the very stuff of smart casual attire. Imperial 200s: A princely choice, any day of the week. The high yarn count (of 200s double) makes for an ultra-smooth and luxuriously soft feel, while the cotton material is so strong and smart it improves with age. It is also light of weight – ideal for the warmer weather. Woven in Italy, just for Pink and you. THE FOUR-IN-HAND the half windsor The very substance of a shirt and your appearance, we use only the finest fabrics. Here are a few of our favourites. Cotton Herringbone and Twill: Be prepared for textural interest. Twill is an open weave construction, which imparts a diagonal texture. Herringbone shares a similar composition, but with a V-shaped fabric design. IN YOUR TOP POCKET Slightly asymmetrical, this knot (also known as the school-boy knot) is readily achievable whether ham fisted or sartorially gifted. Suits all ties and collars. A great all-rounder. THE MATERIAL FACTS ABOUT FABRICS Cotton Poplin: A lightweight, lustrous cotton, with Pink’s tightest and most compact weave, making it cool and comfortable to wear. Our Poplins start at a superfine two-fold 100s. A PINCH OF PINK: HOW TO TIE A TIE over (label pointing up) and iron the inside. Insert collar stiffeners. VISIT ‘DISCOVER PINK’ ON OUR SITE FOR MORE HOW TO GUIDES 9. A dash of panache in minutes. HANKY HISTORY Soft: A lighter weight collar for a relaxed look on our Casual range. DISCOVER MORE 5. Lastly, iron the shirt’s breast. Lay one half on the board (outside up) and iron smooth. Repeat for the other side. Iron carefully around the buttons. Job done. Multi Box Pocket Square, grey/multi: $70 09 The pocket square’s origins date back to the ancient Greeks, when the rich would carry perfumed handkerchiefs. THE BRIGHT CHOICE FOR A THOROUGHLY MODERN LOOK Be bold and sing in Gingham, sartorially speaking that is. Pink’s Gingham Collection embraces bright primary colours and zingy pastels. Made from an exquisite and exclusive Royal Oxford cotton. CHECK OUT GINGHAM Gingham (‘genggang’, Malaysian) started out as a striped pattern but, by the mid-18th century, Manchester mills were manufacturing a checkered fabric with this name. From mods to film and music icons, Gingham remains effortlessly stylish. Plato Check Shirt, button cuff, charcoal/white, pale blue/white, pink/white, lilac/white: $195 11 Bringing the vibrancy of Regency Britain straight up to date. STAR IN STRIPES TWICE THE SHIRT Take a smart, white poplin shirt and add a contrast trim. Next, take the trim fabric and transform it into something entirely different, but with a white trim. The result: a collection made for every event. Compare, then contrast for the very best of both worlds: working and weekending. Sterling Plain Shirt, button cuff, white/pink: $195 Sterling Plain Shirt, button cuff, blue/white: $195 Sterling Plain Shirt, button cuff, pink/white: $195 Sterling Plain Shirt, button cuff, white/blue: $195 The origin of this classic striped design points back to Bengal, India, during the Regency era, referencing the region’s famous Bengal tiger. Our collection upholds the tradition of using exquisite fabrics (ultra-fine 120s two-fold cotton, with bold Sateen stripe) for deep, lustrous hues, while adding a contemporary design twist.
