FROM THE PRINCIPAL
First aid response by the school
Parents you may be interested to know about our first aid response at school. Below is a summary of how we
work. I hope you find it helpful.
All staff hold current certificates for Emergency Care, CPR, Defibrillator use and Responding to Anaphylaxis as
well as training in responding to asthma and diabetes. Sandra Burgin is the school trained first aid officer and
Sandra McKay and Peter Robinson provide back up in her absence.
First aid kits travel with sporting groups each week as well as with any group leaving the school. These kits are
additionally equipped with asthma medication and an auto injector in the case of a student having an
anaphylactic reaction.
Most students presenting at sick bay are for minor bumps and scrapes. For these the child is sent to sick bay by
the teacher from the playground or classroom. For more serious injuries the teacher will phone the office
from the playground or classroom and the first aid officer will come to the student. If appropriate an
ambulance is called and parents notified.
Generally if a child has had a bump to the head regardless of how minor the parent is notified. Parents are not
always notified when their child presents at sick bay. Most children return to the classroom or the playground
after having needed only minor attention. On some occasions the school will contact parents to come and
collect the child if they feel that further medical assessment may be required or if the child is obviously unwell
e.g. sick with the flu, vomiting etc.
Have a great week

Fruit & Veg Sense Workshop
Earlier in the year the Cancer Council hosted a Healthy Lunchbox seminar in the school hall for
parents who were interested in providing their children with healthier options for lunchboxes. On
Tuesday 23rd June at 9:00am they will be back to host a Fruit & Veg Sense Workshop. This will be a
small group session where parents can build upon their existing knowledge and work towards
preparing meals with more fruit and vegetables. Topics will also include preparing affordable,
nutritious meals and targeting fussy eaters. Watch this space for booking information.

Band News
Hopefully all our band members and parents have received email confirmation of our new ‘Chamber
Music Evening’ concert date, Thursday June 25 at 7pm. All band members are included in this
concert and students will be performing in small ensembles and solo items for parents, family and
friends.
An email with concert details has been sent home already and a final ‘invitation’ in hard copy will
come home at band next week. If you have any questions about this event please contact Mr Lavis
([email protected]).
See you there!!

TSA Band Camp 2015!
Yes, it’s that time of year again! Pull out your best swimmers for the waterslide, your grooviest PJ’s for the
pyjama disco and get into training for the staff V students beach volleyball match!! (Oh, and you should
probably practice your band music too!)
Whilst most kids come to camp for the excitement of new friends, fun activities and a weekend away, the real
benefit is in the valuable experience (both musical and social) gained from such intensive time spent in such a
highly musical environment. With over 8 hours of face-to-face tuition over the weekend, there is over a term
and a half worth of 30 minute lessons to be had! Camp is also a valuable experience for students that may be
losing interest in music and need a boost of enthusiasm and practice to get them to a level where they can
enjoy their music and performance.
Notes for camp should have already been received by band parents via email outlining details including cost,
venue, times and dates. If you did not receive this email or you need another copy, please visit
www.teachingservices.com.au and download the note from the ‘Band Notes’ section of the website.
Permission notes, along with deposit, need to be returned ASAP to avoid missing out as the camp participation
needs to be finalized at the beginning of Term 3.

Dear Parents
UNIFORM SHOP VOLUNTEERS URGENTLY NEEDED
The uniform shop is staffed by parents who volunteer their time for the school community. By keeping the
uniform shop on the school premises and staffed by volunteers, we are able to keep prices down. Any profits
made are given back to the P&C, which in turn is used for resources for our children.
In order to continue delivering this service to our school community we need you, our parents, to assist in the
shop. We also welcome all grandparents to assist us in the shop. The uniform shop is currently open Fridays
8.45am - 9.30am during school term. In addition to Fridays, a group of parents are needed to assist with
packing orders placed via the Flexischools website.
Please complete the attached form and return it the school office.
Kind regards
Charmaine Hetem

SCHOOL BANKING
Get involved in the School Banking program.
You can get involved in the School Banking program by opening a Commonwealth Bank Youthsaver account at any
Commonwealth Bank branch, over the phone on 13 2221, or via NetBank if you are an existing customer with NetBank
access.
Remember to take in identification for you and your child (driver’s license and birth certificate). You will receive a
Dollarmites wallet and deposit book that your child will use to participate in the program.
Our school receives $5 when a student makes their first ever School Banking deposit and 5% on every deposit made
through the school (to a maximum of $10 per individual deposit).
Calling for volunteers – we need your help!
Our students really enjoy participating in the Commonwealth Bank School Banking program and to keep this program
running we need your help. The program is run by a group of friendly school parent volunteers who are rostered on in
pairs, once a month, to count and process deposits. This only takes a small amount of time, being one morning each
month and the Commonwealth Bank will provide support in how to run the program. Your help with the program will
greatly benefit students as they develop vital saving skills and also help our school with fundraising.
If you would any further information about opening accounts or joining our friendly volunteer team, please call Bindi Mira
– Bateman on 0411 042 519
School Banking – A platform to help you teach your child about saving!
Baulkham Hills North PS takes part in the Commonwealth Bank School Banking program. It's a great way to give your child a
financial head start by helping them to learn about good money management and the importance of saving.
It’s time kids learnt that Mum and Dad are not the bank! Does your child always want? Do they understand how much
things cost? Do they think there is an endless supply of cash from the machine in the wall? The School Banking program
offers you a platform to start teaching your child the value of money and the benefits of saving.
Earning fun rewards
Every time your child makes a deposit through the School Banking program, regardless of how much, they get one step closer to some
fun Dollarmites gifts, like handballs & money boxes.
Your child will need a Commonwealth Bank Youthsaver account.

Australian Early Development Census
Playing our part to build a national picture of child health
What is the AEDC?
In 2015, our school, along with thousands of others across the country will begin preparations for the third
Australian Early Development Census (AEDC).
The AEDC measures five key areas of development in children during their first year of full-time school to build
a national picture of health and wellbeing. Since 2009, the census results have helped communities, schools
and governments plan services and target support for children and families.
Teachers are trained to assess each child and answer questions. Children don’t need to be present so no class
time is missed, and parents/carers don’t need to supply schools with any new information for the census.
Teachers’ individual assessments are then analysed by the AEDC and reported as anonymous groups of
children in the final report.
Participation in the AEDC is voluntary. Parents/carers don’t need to take any action unless they choose not to
include their children in the census.
To find out more about the census and how communities are using the data to help children and families visit
the AEDC website.
