Helensburgh Highlights
PRINCIPAL’S REPORT
I hope everyone had a restful and safe Easter break. I
know that many families travelled outside the area to
experience the beauty of our natural environment. Many
students I am sure will return to school with stories of their
long weekend adventures.
PRINCIPAL'S AWARD WINNERS AFTERNOON TEA
I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate the
Principal Awardees for Term 1. These students have been
nominated by their class teachers for excellent application
to their studies and an attitude to school that should be an
example to their fellow students. It is my pleasure to treat
these students to a special Afternoon Tea in the Library on
Wednesday 30 March at Recess. They will be presented
with their award during our K-6 Assembly on Thursday.
EASTER HAT PARADE
Last Thursday 24 March our school held its annual Easter
Hat Parade. Students from Kindergarten to Year 2 paraded
in the beautifully designed and unique ensemble of Easter
bonnets. It was a great morning attended by parents,
grandparents, family and friends. I know our students love
to see their parents at school and this event provided an
opportunity for everyone to have fun and display some
very creative flair. I was impressed with the interesting art
and craft display by primary students in the Library. This
year students paraded around our exercise track so that
their brothers and sisters in the primary would get a great
look at the many interesting hats. I would also like to thank
the Kindergarten parents who supplied the Easter eggs for
the P & C raffles.
HAPPY HOLIDAY
Having just returned from an Easter break it appears
strange to wish everyone a safe and relaxing holiday break.
It has been a very fruitful Term 1 with students and
teachers working hard to meet personal learning goals and
to take our school to new heights. Students return for Term
2 on Wednesday 27 April 2016.
Thanking you for your support.

SRC News
The members of the SRC will participate in a morning of
training at school on Thursday 31st March. All
representatives, reserves, prefects and captains will attend.
You will have to bring your SRC folder, good listening and
communication skills, creativity and some great ideas. As
this is only a half-day training, school uniform is to be worn
and bring your lunch and recess.
SCHOOL ANZAC CEREMONY
Helensburgh Public School will be holding its annual ANZAC
ceremony on Wednesday 27 April commencing at 12:00
noon. All parents and community members are warmly
welcome to attend and pay their respects to those who
have served their country in all theatres of conflict.
Our new SRC will
• get to know each other
• decide on how we want to work together
• set some key goals for the year
• develop a sense of group identity.
ANTI-RACISM OFFICER
Our school has a trained ARCO (Anti-Racism Contact
Officer) who supports students who may suffer intended or
unintended racial discrimination or insult. This is very very
rare at Helensburgh Public School but it is reassuring that
Mrs King has been available for all students who need her
support and mediation skills. If parents would like to speak
to Mrs King in respect to matters related to her role, please
ring the school to make an appointment.
A strong group identity will help our SRC to achieve its most
ambitious objectives and enable it to overcome any group
or individual challenges we might face along the way.
Many thanks
Ms Anne Maree Lawless (SRC Support Teacher)
We would like to Acknowledge the Wodi Wodi people who are the Traditional Custodians of this Land on which our school stands upon. We would also like to pay respect to the
Elders both past and present of the Dharawal Nation and extend that respect to other Aboriginals present.

HPS Online
Exciting news! We are trialling online digital portfolios for
all of our students this year at HPS. In the past our
students published their work to their iWeb site on our
school Intranet. This year we will be using Seesaw in our
classrooms. Seesaw allows our teachers and children to
capture work and share it with you. Seesaw will give you a
window into each of our classrooms!
We need your help with Seesaw to ensure its success this
year. Firstly, please connect to your child’s journal. You
should have received (or will very shortly) a QR code for
your child or a class link from your child’s teacher. Please
ask your child’s teacher for this information if you have not
received it. Lots of work has already been published via
Seesaw in most of our classes, however some parents have
not taken up the opportunity to connect to their child’s
journal. You can download Seesaw’s free Parent App for
iOS, Android, or use the web to view your child’s work.
When any new work is added, you will receive a
notification to see, hear and respond to your child’s
learning item. You only have access to your own child’s
journal and all of the content is stored securely.
You will get free access to your child’s current year of work
stored in Seesaw, and you can save anything out of your
child’s Seesaw journal to your computer or device at any
time. We are very excited about sharing our students’ work
with you via Seesaw this year and with your help by
connecting and responding to your child’s learning journal,
we can continue building our school community of lifelong
learners.
