EDITOR’S SAY Successful relays YET again the DVLAC staged another successful relay championships last Saturday under somewhat difficult (wet) circumstances. But, like many successful enterprises in life, it (the championships) does not come about without a lot of planning and work from ALL our esteemed volunteers. Our thanks go to our wondwerful helpers including life members Lesley Bell, Iain Macrae, Andrew Edney and Patrick Finlayson as well as the ever reliable Di Stirling at the finish line. The place is jumping with activity ANY one who spends a bit of time at Willinda Park, like myself and family, would have been following the progress of work on the long jump pit (long jump 1). We are pleased to report that the resurfacing and line marking has been completed. This means we can now conduct long and triple jump events at both ends of the jumps pits, much to the relief of us all. Parents and athletes should be aware that council funding for such works would not have occurred without concerted lobbying by your centre officials, particularly president Stuart Schnaars, vice president John Mills and secretary Lisa Norden. On behalf of the centre, I’d like to thank Banyule Mayor Peter McKenna for his support of these works. Thanks also must go to other council staff including Julie Allan, who is always supportive of the centre’s needs. Rear car park and speed limits One or two club officials have expressed concern over the speed some folk are driving at when they come into the rear grassed area. Although this is an out-of-bounds area for athletes, we ask car drivers to SLOW DOWN when arriving at or departing from the car park. Results Please note: This year our results will be recorded electronically. You can check those results, and print them if you desire, by visiting the website at DV 8 News www.diamond.coolrunning.com.au Our website guru and centre vice president John Mills keeps us up to date each week.
