MEMBERSHIP RENEWALS NOW DUE! Renew online today @ torontotransportationclub.com/members/renew-your-ttc-membership NEWSLETTER WINTER EDITION - NO. 72 JANUARY 2015 position in the scholarship trust, and we are continuing to carry momentum into our second centennial. Part of this momentum was certainly due to John Foss (President 2013). John’s involvement in this club has been invaluable and will continue to be invited and welcome. John, thank you. 13th Annual Ski Day January 16th Transportation Night April 23rd I would also like to thank Brian Wright (CP) who has moved on to a new role at CP, and has left his space on the TTC board, and the spring golf event in very capable hands. President’s Message It’s with great pleasure that I take over the Presidency of this illustrious group of peers at the Toronto Transportation Club. This club has been instrumental in making my career an extremely enjoyable adventure. There is an old adage that says; “people deal with people”. This to me is the essence of The Toronto Transportation Club. I have benchmarked with peers, I have compared products and services, I have recommended people to other people, I have found customers, I have found synergies, and I have down right just complained. Most importantly I have made lifelong friends that share a commonality of being involved in some shape or form in the supply chain process. The title “President” is a misnomer. The Board of Directors, and the countless volunteers past and present are what make The Toronto Transportation Club the success that it is. The very foundation of this club when it started over 100 years ago is the same main intention it has today; to provide a forum that allows the industry to meet. (Hence the tag line “Where Industry Meets”). We do it in great numbers, with great outcomes. Our members see great value in the forums we provide so it will always be the cornerstone of this club. I would like to thank Peter Collins and his Board, Committees, and Volunteers for a very successful 2014 event year. We are larger in membership, we are increasing our financial Spring Golf Tournament May 14th Lunch & Learn Event June 9th A hearty welcome to our new Board members Nicole Methven (CP), Donna Kelly (TSI), Brad Carter (China Shipping) and Collin Sood (Meyers) who joined us in 2014. Power of Education Golf Classic September 17th Lastly, congratulations to Gary Fast (Canadian Tire) who was elected to the role of Second Vice President (2015) at our December AGM. Gary has been a great contributing member of our Board, and Canadian Tire has been committed to our Club for many years. Gary will in no doubt continue to achieve the highest standards moving forward throughout his tenure. Night At The Races October 7th TTC Mo Challenge Month of November Annual Dinner December 3rd There are some important notes to pass on from the Club as part of our first newsletter of 2015; I invite current members to renew early, and take part in our iPad early bird draw. I also encourage you to think about including more people in your organization by becoming a corporate member, or growing through individual membership. Simply, membership allows us to continue but more people attending our events, is what allows us to achieve our goals, and fund the scholarship. This newsletter also contains information on our digital advertising yearly sponsorship, which this year included ten sold out events, and record amounts of people. Without a doubt this will give your marketing a boost! Please take a moment to ‘Save the Dates’ for our 2015 events in your calendars. I wish you all a very prosperous and healthy 2015. I’m looking forward to a fantastic year of TTC events! While we have been putting on this event for over 15 years, we challenged ourselves to come up with a new and exciting theme that can be enjoyed by all our members and guests. Last, but not least, I wanted to thank all the members that attended this royal evening. Clearly without your participation we would simply not have events such as these. We were proud of our new Royal theme and to see all guests participate in that theme was outstanding. Comments from fellow Board Members included, “Have you ever seen so many people dressed so well for a night at the races?” – “Wow heels, tuxes and fascinators – how could you go wrong?” – “Can you believe how amazing the Fascinators look?!” What makes these events so special is the camaraderie, networking and our members supporting the themes. We can all be proud of our involvement at all levels this evening. With that, the “TTC Royal Night at The Races” was born. Fascinators, top hats, tuxedoes, Princes and Princess’ all added to an evening where we all “CHARGED” into a great time! As with most events, we appreciate your feedback. All comments can be made at our website www.torontotransportationclub.com or via email to Denise Cardy [email protected]. The TTC board would first like to thank it’s sponsors, Trailcon Leasing, Meyers Transport, Cavalier Transportation, OCR, Motive Media Fleet Graphics & Consolidated Fastfrate. As with all of our events, nights like this cannot be possible without their generous patronage. Whether it be for one of the races or diners or drinks or appetizer table we truly appreciate your commitment to the TTC. We are already planning next year’s event and will most certainly try to top what we did this year! So stay tuned for information regarding “2015’s TTC ROYAL NIGHT AT THE RACES”. My top hat off to all of you. I would also like to thank the Board Members who spent countless hours conceptualizing this theme and making it a reality. MOvember’s goal is to change the face of men’s health, with a specific focus on men’s mental health and prostate cancer research. Our past president Gord McNeil, jumped on board as our spokesman, sharing his own story with prostate cancer, helping to raise awareness for the importance of early detection. Gord’s positive outlook and his passion for the cause is truly inspirational The 2nd Annual “Judging of the MO’s” was a ton of fun and are proud to announce our winners!
