October 2015 Dear Parents: The 2015-2016 school year for Archbishop Chapelle High School is off to a fast, enthusiastic, and successful start. The love and support of Chapelle by all members of our school community continue to impress everyone who comes in contact with this school. I personally feel extremely lucky to be associated with this extraordinary institution. The months of October and November are extremely critical to the Chapelle admissions process. During these months most young ladies, with the guidance of their parents, are coming to some kind of consensus about what high school they will choose to attend for the 2016-2017 school session. This selection actively will culminate with annual open houses hosted by the various high schools throughout the area. The Archbishop Chapelle High School Open House for prospective students and their parents is scheduled for Thursday, November 5 from 6pm-8pm. The purpose of this letter is to sincerely ask for your direct and indirect assistance in our solicitation of potential chipmunks. Undoubtedly, satisfied parents are our most effective recruiters. Prospective families tend to place more credibility with those who are knowledgeable about, but not directly a part of, the institution they are considering. If Archbishop Chapelle High School is to remain the type of school we love and hope to keep moving forward, we must all work to attract the kinds of families that will fit the Chapelle mold. It is time for all members of the Archbishop Chapelle High School family to take an aggressive role in spreading the Chapelle message throughout the greater New Orleans area. In order to help transmit this message, we sincerely ask all of you to encourage your relatives, friends, and neighbors to at least visit Archbishop Chapelle. Please consider placing an open house yard sign in your front yard. Please let everyone in your neighborhood know that you are a proud member of the Chapelle family. Displaying Chapelle magnets (on sale in the front office for 50 cents) is another way of showing your support for Chapelle. Do not hesitate to call our Admissions Director, Hannah Hess, or me if you feel that you can assist in our public relations efforts. I know that we can count on you for your prayers and assistance. With support like this, Archbishop Chapelle High School will be even greater in the years ahead. Loyal to green and white, John A. Serio Principal P.s. Thanks to so many of you for your early support of the 2015-2016 Chapelle Fund Drive. This year the money derived from the Chapelle Fund will be used to replace the forty-year-old air conditioning system in the main building. Remember, participation is extremely important with regards to our obtaining funds from outside sources. Please do whatever you can to make this drive successful. Campus Ministry Notes Prayer for Life: O God, our Creator, all life is in your hands from conception until death. Help us to cherish our children and to reverence the awesome privilege of our share in creation. May all people live and die in dignity and love. Bless all those who defend the rights of the unborn, the handicapped and the aged. Enlighten and be merciful toward those who fail to love, and give them peace. Let freedom be tempered by responsibility, integrity and morality. Deus Providebit Mass On Tuesday, September 29, Archbishop Chapelle was honored to have Mayor Mike Yenni and Councilman Ben Zahn join us in Mass for the entire student body, faculty, parents, and alumnae. St. Charles Avenue Magazine Student Activist Chapelle Senior Taylor Sparacello was a featured Student Activist in St. Charles Avenue Magazine’s October 2015 issue. As a star student, incredibly talented musician, and dedicated volunteer, Taylor is a model student representative of Chapelle. Taylor is the drum major in the Rummel-Chapelle Band, principle clarinetist in the Symphonic Band, and plays lead alto saxophone in the Rummel-Chapelle Jazz Band. She is also a member of the Greater New Orleans Youth Orchestra and the New Orleans Volunteer Orchestra. Taylor says, “By being part of the music ministry, I’m able to participate in Mass in a deeper way that strengthens my relationship with God. By sharing my God-given talent of music, I feel like I enrich everyone’s Sunday Mass experience.” Read the full article in St. Charles Avenue magazine: http://www.myneworleans.com/St-Charles-Avenue/October-2015/Taylor-Jean-Sparacello/ Archbishop Chapelle High School 2015-2016 Quarter 1 Exam Schedule Monday, October 5 - Review/Exam Day - Students Released at 11:40 Elective classes and grade 8 reading classes will take exams during their regular periods. Eleventh grade students and selected tenth grade students will take the PSAT. The PSAT/NMSQT assesses reading, math, and writing skills and provides excellent practice for the SAT. It is also used to determine National Merit Semi-Finalists. The PSAT will serve as practice for the selected 10th grade students since they will not be eligible to qualify for the National Merit Scholarship Program until their Junior year. The data we obtain from the standardized test results is valuable as we look to continuously improve classroom instruction. Individual results also help teachers, parents, and students understand individual strengths and weaknesses. It is important for all students to be present on testing day. Please make sure your daughter does not schedule any appointment at this time. If a student misses a test it must be made up. We will email you notification of when make-up tests will be administered. Students taking the PSAT will be dismissed between 11:00am and 11:30am. Students taking the Aspire will be dismissed at approximately 12:30pm. Lunch will not be served on this day, but there will be a snack break for those students taking the Aspire.
