M A T T H E W 1 9 : 1 4 YOUR Personalized GIFT PROPOSAL A LETTER FROM FATHER TOM LAM Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ, Epiphany of the Lord Catholic Community has a rich history of living and proclaiming the Gospel mission of the Church. We arrive at this promising time in the life of our parish to begin a capital campaign to build a new Catholic elementary and middle school, and to expand and relocate the Outreach Center. This would be the first stage of the parish master plan, a process we began a year ago to invest in our parish’s future. The church is called to share the Gospel message and form the hearts and minds of the faithful. A new Catholic school will allow Epiphany to teach the faith in an important new way, through the formal education of our children. A school will also deepen the sense of community among our parish families, and bring new families to the parish. This endeavor will meet an important need in our community, that is, the ability of parents to have a choice in how to educate their children. We will provide families a faith-filled environment where children will receive a complete education of mind, body and soul. God has blessed our families and our lives, and we embrace this unique opportunity to return a portion of those blessings for his greater glory. The title of our capital campaign is Faith in our Future – Investing in Catholic Education. This booklet outlines the campaign’s goals. We are asking every Epiphany family to prayerfully consider making a sacrificial and meaningful gift. Your gift is truly an investment in the parish’s future. Years from now, as graduates of our school live and work in our community or become active members of other parishes, you will be blessed with the knowledge that you played a significant role in building the first Catholic school in Katy. God has blessed our families and our lives, and we embrace this unique opportunity to return a portion of those blessings for his greater glory. I am mindful with gratitude for your past generosity to Epiphany. Please be assured of my prayerful remembrance of your faithful support, as we confidently move forward as one parish family and make this important investment in our children’s future. Devotedly yours in Christ, Rev. Tom Lam PROUD HISTOR F Epiphany of the Lord Catholic Community was established 34 years ago with 150 families attending Mass in Memorial Parkway Elementary School. Since then it has grown to more than 6,700 registered households. Over the years, the parish has planned and developed a significant number of ministries that speak to the many dimensions of the Church’s mission. Deepening our knowledge and love of Jesus in our faith formation classes, celebrating the sacraments with family and friends, and caring for the poor through the Outreach Center and St. Vincent de Paul Society are just a few of the enduring aspects of spiritual life here at Epiphany of the Lord. New parish St. Vincent de Paul and Outreach Center opens. Groundbreaking for the new parish activity center. 1981 1984 Renovations and expansion of the church and new day chapel is completed. 1985 1997 2000 Parish reaches 3,000 registered families. Many of the parish’s outreach ministries begin. Mass is celebrated for the first time in the completed church. Parish established by Bishop John L. Morkovsky. 2001 2012 FAITHWhere INthereOUR is no vision,FUTURE the people perish. P R O V E R B S 2 9 : 1 8 Epiphany of the Lord has developed a comprehensive Master Plan to implement our vision of a future that expands our parish community while strengthening its faith and involvement. The plan is rooted in our belief that God sends his Holy Spirit to guide his church. The master plan identified several new construction projects as well as ministerial and liturgical enhancements. The entire plan will be implemented in phases over the course of many years, with breathing room in between for thoughtful reflection and proper preparation. The first phase of the master plan is establishing a new Catholic elementary and middle school as well as expanding and relocating the Outreach Center. Building a New Catholic Elementary and Middle School Offering a full Catholic education speaks to the truth that there are only two things that outlive us – our faith and our children. God calls upon us to fulfill our Church’s mission to spread and strengthen our faith. Our new school will: • Educate children from pre-K through eighth grade. • Enroll approximately 550 students (two classrooms per grade). • Proceed with construction under the direction of a school building committee with diocesan guidance. • Progress following the recommendations of a school planning committee formed to advise the parish on the administrative details $0 of starting and running a school. $1 Million $2 Million $3 Million We must carve a generous place in our heart and in our community for Catholic education. Your financial support of this capital campaign is critical. Celebration Goal: $9 million • Covers the costs of the shell structure and completion of one classroom per grade. • Renovates part of the Parish Activity Center (PAC) to accommodate classrooms. • Moves the Outreach Center to the south end of the campus. CATHOLIC EDUCATION AIMS NOT ONLY TO COMMUNICATE FACTS BUT ALSO TRANSMIT A COHERENT, COMPREHENSIVE VISION OF LIFE, IN THE CONVICTION THAT THE TRUTHS CONTAINED IN THAT VISION LIBERATE STUDENTS IN THE MOST PROFOUND MEANING OF HUMAN FREEDOM.” POPE SAINT JOHN PAUL II n $4 Million $5 Million $6 Million $7 Million $8 Million $9 Million Celebration Goal Victory Goal: $12 million • Includes all of the Celebration Goal actions (the new school construction costs, the cost to renovate the PAC for classroom space and the expansion and relocation of the Outreach Center). • Allows construction of two classrooms per grade and all special activity rooms. • Completes the exterior upgrades of the relocated Outreach Center projects. $10 Million $11 Million $12 Million Victory Goal Expand and Relocate the Outreach Center The parish master plans calls for relocating the Outreach Center to the south and front of the parish campus. This more visible location offers easier access for our visiting friends in need. A more prominent presence emphasizes the importance the parish places on its social ministry to the poor. There are too few opportunities in life to perfectly align with Christ’s mission of his church. So when such a time presents itself, we need to enthusiastically respond. God generously gives us our talents and the comforts of life, not for us to simply enjoy, but for us to productively use for what is right and to give God glory. The more that is given to us in life, the more God expects from us. We have been given many blessings in our personal lives, and can never repay God for what he has done. He knows where our heart is, and when we are giving time, treasure, and talent sacrificially and meaningfully. This capital campaign addresses two needs identified in the Epiphany master plan – the institution of the first Catholic elementary school in Katy and the expansion of the Outreach Center on our campus. We can irreversibly touch the lives of many children and needy adults with these two endeavors. Moreover, the parishioner participation rate, the social energy of the parish, the renewal of our youth participation, and the enhanced teaching of our faith should all be greatly increased if we do this well.” DENNY AND LYN DELLINGER General Chairs “We’re honored to participate in this campaign for Epiphany of the Lord. We’ve witnessed other parishes with Catholic schools, and we’ve seen how they create a sense of community and belonging that draws young families to the parish. A Catholic school at Epiphany would be a wonderful blessing for our family. It would partner with us to provide a quality education in a disciplined, Christian environment. We’re grateful to the parish for providing this opportunity and look forward to this exciting campaign. STEVE AND MARCELLA BURKE Major Gift Committee Campaign Prayer Lord, we give you thanks for the blessings you have given to each of us and especially to our parish family. In your wisdom, you know our needs and our hopes perfectly, even before we express them. Kindly make fruitful our desire to teach the faith as we embark on the praiseworthy endeavor to build a Catholic school for our children and families and for your greater glory. Strengthen our resolve so that through every step, our reliance on you may be total and unwavering. Move the hearts of each of us, that we may be generous in our giving and support. Then, having blessed our efforts coupled with our trust in your providence, grant success to the work of our hands! We make this prayer through the intercession of the Most Holy Virgin Mary, in the name of Jesus, our Lord and merciful Savior. Amen. WAYS TO GIVE T here are several ways to give to the campaign that allow you to support Epiphany of the Lord in a meaningful way. Pledges are commitments made in good faith, but Epiphany will not legally bind parishioners for a pledge. Outright gifts will best serve the immediate needs of the parish to confidently move forward with building plans. However, there are other charitable giving methods you may want to consider. CASH Most commonly, parishioners make cash payments using a check, or Faith Direct, our online giving system. You may benefit from such payments with a charitable deduction on your tax return. Checks to the campaign should be made out to Epiphany of the Lord. SECURITIES Stocks, bonds or mutual fund shares that have appreciated can have an immediate impact on our campaign and also create an income tax deduction for you based on their current market value. You also avoid all capital gains by gifting directly to the campaign, a double benefit to you. The Archdiocese of Galveston-Houston’s Development Office administers gifts of stock for the parish. PLANNED GIFTS Planned giving is the process of carefully selecting the best method and asset for making a charitable gift. Such a gift can enable you to take full advantage of the tax laws to accomplish your financial and charitable goals. Examples are: • A gift in your will or in your living trust. • A gift of life insurance. • Real estate. • Naming the parish as a beneficiary of your IRA, 401(K) or pension plan. • Create a charitable trust. COMPANY MATCHING GIFTS A matching gift program provided through your employer may allow you to increase your gift. Before you make your gift, please inquire at your place of employment to see if your employer has a matching gift program and if the campaign would qualify for a matching gift. Always consult with your financial or tax advisor to determine which method of giving is most beneficial for you. We ask you to make Epiphany of the Lord and the Faith in our Future – Investing in Catholic Education Capital Campaign your number one charitable giving priority the next three years. Epiphany is inviting parishioners to prayerfully consider making a sacrificial and meaningful gift, one that is in addition to your annual offertory support. Because of this, we encourage you to spread your gift over a three-year pledge period. This can allow for a manageable pledge payment plan. We encourage parishioners to consider a 10 to 20 percent initial gift to begin your pledge. Three-Year Pledge Payment Schedule Total Gift Initial 10% Investment Payment Plans After Initial Investment Daily* Weekly* Monthly Quarterly Annual $30,000$3,000 $25 $173 $750 $2,250 $9,000 $20,000$2,000 $16 $115 $500 $1,500$6,000 $15,000$1,500 $12 $87 $375 $1,125 $4,500 $10,000$1,000 $8.22 $58 $250 $750 $3,000 $5,000$500 $4.11$29 $125 $375 $1,500 $3,000 $300 $2.47$17 $75 $225 $900 * The daily and weekly figures are provided for illustration and example only. Commemorative Opportunities This capital campaign offers a once in a lifetime opportunity. Our parish family is building the first Catholic school in Katy. Parishioners have a chance to be a part of history, to make Catholic education possible for future generations of Catholic families in our community. The building of a new Catholic school and expanding and relocating the Outreach Center offer naming and commemorative gift opportunities. For a donation of $100,000 or higher, you can make a gift in honor or memory of someone important in your life. If you would like to make a commemorative gift, speak to your campaign volunteer, or contact the parish office for more details.
