FROM THE
President
Dear Members:
As I enter the last few months as your President of the Board of
Governors, I am grateful for the opportunity to have served you
and I now am looking forward to once again being a “member!”
You recently received a letter requesting that those members
interested in running for the Board of Governors submit their
Ed Rice
application to the Nominating Committee. I encourage all of you to
seriously consider running for the Board and help shape the future of
St. Andrews. It’s important that our Board reflect our diverse membership to ensure our
governance is representative of all ages and interests.
On behalf of the Board of Governors, we thank you for voting to move forward with the
2016 Club Improvement Plan. As one community we came together and recognized that
while some members may not participate in all that the Club has to offer, it is important
for the future of St. Andrews that we continue to improve our facilities and amenities as
a whole. I have asked the Construction Committee that they make certain to keep you
updated and involved with the progress of the Plan as we go forward.
Talk about coming together! This year’s 9th annual Morgan & Friends event was another
major success. Through your generous donations, Morgan and the Morgan Pressel
Foundation Committee raised $1 Million in the fight against breast cancer. The funds
help support genetic testing, cancer research and outreach. Once again a tribute to the
philanthropic efforts of St. Andrews members.
There is a lot going on during Presidents’ week, especially for our children and
grandchildren. There will be poolside activities on Monday, along with a Dive in Movie
and of course, our Junior Golf and Junior Tennis Clinics. I hope to see you and your
families enjoying the club.
Jody and I want to wish all of you a Happy Valentine’s Day. We look forward to seeing
everyone at our annual Valentine’s Day Social.
Stay Healthy,

The 2016 Club Improvement Plan approved by the membership on
January 23 will bring many exciting improvements to the Club over the
next three years. I want to thank all the members who attended the
Informational Meetings and provided valuable feedback and direction
on the proposed designs. In my passion and haste to cover the various
components of the presentation in the first Informational Meeting, I
responded disrespectfully to our Club President Ed Rice and apologize
for the comment I made in front of those in attendance. Your
commitment to ensuring St. Andrews remains the “Best of the Best”
directly impacts the increase in home sales and therefore, home values.
As one of America’s premier private clubs, it is important that we
continue to look ahead and constantly evolve to ensure our
memberships’ expectations are exceeded in all areas.
Craig D. Martin, CCM,
Chief Operating Officer
and General Manager
Many long days and hours were put in to the development plan by the Board of Governors,
multiple committees and the professional staff to formulate the next evolution of St.
Andrews. Many more long days and hours are anticipated over the next three years as the
improvements begin to take place. As always, we will keep you posted with periodic updates
on the progress of the three phased Plan.
We recently held our annual “Meet and Greet Luncheon” for new members who joined the
Club in the past two years. This year almost 70 new members attended our luncheon along
with the membership committee and department heads. The luncheon provides an intimate
setting where new members can share contact information, arrange golf, tennis or card
games, plan social activities and more. It is always nice to hear from everyone how much
they love being part of this special Club and community. We are excited to see so many new
faces bringing fresh ideas to the Club.
February is filled with a variety of events and activities highlighted throughout this issue and
I encourage you to make your reservations now for the Valentine’s Day Social on Saturday,
February 13. Don’t forget to make plans to come see our Tennis Director, Aaron Krickstein in
his annual tennis exhibition on Stadium Court featuring James Blake, formerly #4 in the
world, on Wednesday, February 10 at 6:30 p.m.

Dining
The Club is in full swing with many activities planned for your enjoyment.
Federica Davis
Director of Club Operations
Our Social and Events Manager has planned a full range of lectures and cultural events designed to
meet a wide variety of interests. Our children’s programs are busier than ever with new members
joining the Club with small to teenage children and taking part in our Kids Programs. The adult
activities have something going on every week with featured speakers and book clubs to card playing
and sports events. We have even started a new Movie Club at a member’s request. It is wonderful to
see how the Club has evolved with so much for everyone to enjoy.
Overall, the December was a strong month with significantly high participation results from members, their families and
guest at the pool and dining activities. The weather held up for the most part which allowed us to stay on track for all outside
activities. Lakeside dining continues being a very popular restaurant for family and friends.

We had a packed house for the Alan Dershowitz Lecture on January 18. The response for this event was
so great, that we had to start a waiting list! We would like to thank Leon Cooperman and Bernie Marcus
for sponsoring such an outstanding event!
Members really enjoyed their trip to the Broward Center to see “The Book of Mormon” on January 29.
The Club arranged transportation for those members who wanted to take advantage of that, and
everyone had a great time!

THE
On Green
INTO THE NEW YEAR
The 2016 Golf Season kicked off with the 9th Annual Morgan & Friends Fight Cancer Rournament.
This year Morgan was joined by seven other LPGA stars including Lydia Ko the number #1 player in
the world, Lydia Ko. The two day event raised a record $1 Million dollars bringing the nine year total
to over $5.5 million. The event was once again covered by News Channel 12, the Sun-Sentinel, live
broadcast on the Golf Channel’s Morning Drive, as well as many other news outlets. Most of the
monies raised are due to the generous donations made by the St. Andrews membership.
Way to go St. Andrews!
Paul Clivio,
Director of Golf
2016 also brought us new champions in the Ladies’ President Cup.

S.A.W.G.A.news
Congratulations to all the
women who participated
in the S.A.W.G.A.
President’s Cup. Everyone
was a good sport about
playing under far from
ideal conditions. The first
Gail Kaplan
Communications,
day of play on Tuesday,
S.A.W.G.A.
January 12 was cold and
raining on and off throughout the morning. There
were periods when it was downright pouring. The
final round was on Thursday, January 14, and that
day was just plain raw. The tough conditions didn’t
stop our ladies from playing extremely exciting and
highly competitive rounds of golf.
One of the main reasons the ladies golf tournaments
at St. Andrews are so successful is due to the Rules
Café and the large number of participants. The Rules
Café is held two times each season. The breakfast of
bagels, muffins, and coffee served is fattening,
delicious and free. While relaxing and eating our
breakfast the famous Paul Clivio was reviewing,
explaining, and interpreting the rules and edict of the
game of golf. Having a strong understanding of the
rules of golf creates an atmosphere of high level golf,
less discussions or debates, and a faster pace of play.
The date for the second ladies Rules Cafe will be held
on February 23.
Ladies don’t forget to sign up for the Hearts on Fire
tournament on February 9. Please only sign up if you
want to have a lot of fun golfing and bonding with
your St. Andrews golf buddies.
We would like to thank all the ladies who participated
in the Country Club Challenge against Gleneagles
Country Club. We hope you had a good experience.
See you on the links!

2016 WGA PRESIDENT’S CUP
THE
Over Net
As we head into the heart of our tennis
season, a quick recap of the December
holiday period shows our tennis facility
and courts were the busiest ever here at
St. Andrews Country Club. Overall court
usage was up 25% and the professional
staff was extremely busy with many
lessons/clinics. Our Junior Tennis
Holiday program had record attendance
across the board for two straight weeks,
culminating with our always popular end
Aaron Krickstein
of the season Junior Tennis Pizza Party
Director of Tennis
which had close to 80 kids participating!
It was so amazing to see all the young children (ages 3 thru
15) having so much fun on the courts and enjoying a sport
they can play for a lifetime.
It’s hard to believe but only three months remain on our
seasonal tennis calendar so please don’t forget to sign up for
some awesome upcoming events. These will include our
President’s week Junior Tennis Holiday clinics (February
15-19), Addison Reserve / St. Andrews Tennis Challenge
(Saturday, February 27), Ladies’ Member-Guest (Monday,
March 7), Men’s Member-Guest (Friday, March 11) and last
but certainly not least our annual Color War Event (weekend
of March 25-27). This fantastic competition will feature
tennis, golf and fitness events. If you are interested in any of
these great events, please sign up in the Tennis Shop or call
ext. 354 for more details.
In closing, I would like to remind all our members of our
upcoming professional exhibition match on Wednesday
evening, February 10 at 6:30 p.m. Yours truly will be
competing against former world #4 James Blake. The
popular and very entertaining Jimmy Arias will also be back
this year so it should a very enjoyable evening for everyone.
Please sign up in the Tennis Shop and I look forward to
seeing you there.
See you on the courts!

participating vendor donations to PAP based on their gross
sales. We will report the total donated in the March Style
We must commend the St. Andrews family of employees who
made this day possible. From the experience of Linda
Spielmann to the enthusiasm of Cory Hickman to the talents of
Chef Steve and staff to the artistry of Jose, we are lucky to have
one and all at our club. We cannot forget Ari, Jamie and Michele
as well.
We want to send our very best wishes for a speedy, uneventful
recovery to those who cancelled due to illness, either their own
or a family member. We further send our sincerest condolences
to those cancelled due to a loss in the family.
We surely hope all who attended enjoyed the day as much as we
enjoyed planning it!
Warm regards to all, Ellen Liebman, Linda Anikstein, Alice

HANDLING INDULGENCES
Maureen Buchbinder
Nutrition Educator
Did you know that from Thanksgiving to New Year’s Day the average person
gains 7-10 lbs.?
Your body might crave more sugar after the long holiday season because you
have eaten more sugar, or foods that turn into sugar. Be wise, treat treats, like a
treat, that means infrequently!
Differentiate between everyday eats and indulgences.
Limit the indulgence to a meal or part of a meal so your day still includes ample
nutrition versus having a cheat day of indulgent foods and no nutrients.
Plan for the indulgences. It is something you look forward to, and because it is
planned, the guilty feeling tends to not occur.
Know what a true craving is. If it is pasta, do not beat yourself up and plan to
allow yourself that pasta, in moderation.
Use the 80-85% Rule. It is important to practice good habits 80 to 85% of the
time, than you will succeed.
Make it worth it. So when you indulge, make sure it is worth it. Go for the real
thing, not low sugar or diet, but look for no chemicals or junk, and make sure
the ingredient list is short.
Then get back on track, eat a little bit less, exercise a little smarter and your
weight gain will be gone!

Barnum and Bailey Circus theme, the

Linda Anikstein, Linda Bodian, Alice
Glassman, Shelley Harris, Mimi Leeds,
Ellen Liebman, Billie Mener, Ronni
Schneider. Thank you ladies! We cannot
wait to see what the theme is for next
year’s event!
