Eight hundred years young.
It is a birthday like no other. The young singers in the Dresdner Kreuzchor boys‘ choir
have been weaving away at their wonderful tapestry of sound for 800 years. It makes
no difference if the pieces in question better suit an ecclesiastical or secular context;
the young choristers always make top-class music with an unbridled love of life, fascinating precision and individual excellence. And as even an 800th birthday is rarely
a one-off in Dresden, not just the choir but also the Kreuzkirche church and accompanying Kreuzgymnasium school are also celebrating their equally lengthy histories.
The lengthy festival programme includes numerous special concerts and events in
Dresden, Germany and around the world: wonderful opportunities for both fans and
newcomers to this unique ensemble.
Cosmopolitan openness with a religious core
In its anniversary year, the Kreuzchor will be demonstrating its incredible versatility.
Just some examples:
› The classic Christmas Oratorio in the Kreuzkirche
“Jauchzet, frohlocket” – what must be Bach‘s most celebratory piece lights the sky

› Overwhelming experience in the stadium
The Kreuzchor sings a Dresden Christmas with a big round of 10,000 voices in the
stadium at the Grosser Garten. A sing-along for the whole family.

› Celebrations for the Day of German Unity
In 2016, Saxony will be organising the national celebrations marking the Day
of German Unity. The Kreuzchor will be singing at the festival service in the
Frauenkirche and the ceremony in the Semper Opera House. (03.10.2016)

The powerful new cultural force.
In December 2016 Dresden will have good grounds for yet more celebration – literally:
the return of Kraftwerk Mitte. In keeping with the cold, dark time of year, a city powerhouse will be coming back on the grid: creative, unbridled, imaginative.
Important cultural generators will be moving in – the State Operetta House and tjg.
theater junge generation – and the architecturally sophisticated grounds of this former
power plant are to be brought back to life as a giant creative laboratory.
During the opening week in December there will be a festive gala and special premieres
at the two Dresden playhouses.
The ensembles‘ artistic output is something to look forward to.
› The city of Dresden and its companies are currently investing 100 million euros in
revitalising the historically listed premises.
› New venues are being created for Dresden State Operetta House and the tjg.theater
junge generation.
› In December 2016 the two theatres will be inviting visitors to their opening festival.
The State Operetta House will welcome its guests with a big opening gala and making
its entrance with premieres of an operetta and a musical.

KRAFT WERK MITTE Dresden
› In 1839 the opening of Dresden‘s second gasworks marked the start of the Wettiner
Platz grounds‘ industrial use. The area was constantly extended over the decades.
› The power plant produced energy for the Saxon capital for almost 100 years.
› Closed down in 1994, the 39,000 m² industrial complex is still one of the most
striking spots in Dresden city centre.

Since the foundation in 2002 our gallery represents both
famous and young, unknown artists from Dresden.
We are located in the centre of the Baroque District, one of
the most beautiful quarters of Dresden. The historical city
center is only a ten minute walk away, on the other shore
