Feasibility study (16/18)
Critical points for IMONODE pilot case
development (1/2)
• Attract fresh cargo flow with destination of other regions
•
•
•
of Greece
Set up intermodal logistic nodal point for fresh goods
from Western Europe to Greece and Eastern
Mediterranean ports
Define adequate and cost effective logistic chains based
on road-maritime transport
Provide integrated port services including logistic
activities (warehousing, distribution of goods,
preservation, ICT systems)

Feasibility study (17/18)
Critical points for IMONODE pilot case
development (2/2)
• Build synergies with other ports and Italian fresh
•
products producers for viable perishable goods
chains
Use of particular vessel types for combining
fresh products cargo with other cargo types may
create additional competive advantage for the
chain.

Feasibility study (18/18)
Problems Identified
•
•
•
Hinterland Access: Low quality of road
infrastructure, non existing railway infrastructure.
Therefore, investments guided to SSS and
Transshipment
Limited Access to Skilled Work Force: This
obstacle can be managed by programs as e.g.
intensive training of employees and creation of
incentives for personnel to settle a vicinity in the port
Local cargo: Small relative import-export volume for
local needs. However this handicap may be affronted
by the cargo bundling in the Free zone from several
other Greek regions
