THE CROCODILE’S ORIGIN

The story of the “Crocodile” began with a wager René Lacoste made with
the Captain of the French Davis Cup Team who promised René that he
would give him an alligator-skin suitcase if René won a very important
match. Even though he lost his match, René was nicknamed “the Crocodile”
by the American press because of his tenacity on the tennis courts.
Today, the Crocodile emblem symbolizes the elegance of tennis champion
René Lacoste in everyday life, on and off the courts, in more than
110 countries.

The LACOSTE legend was born in 1933, when the tennis champion
René Lacoste revolutionized men’s fashion, creating what has now become
the iconic LACOSTE L.12.12 polo shirt.
