The Benalmádena Sea Centre
("Classroom of the Sea") is an interpretation
centre that also focuses on nature conservation,
while actually being located at the beach itself.
Special leisure activities are offered for children,
including guided tours through the centre and
outdoor trips. Benalmádena Sea Centre also has
an oceanographic laboratory, which allows direct
contact with the marine species in the aquariums.
This is where common endangered species can
be found, such as the octopus, loggerhead turtle
and grouper. In addition, a closer look into the
reality of the sea is made possible through
exhibitions and workshops that help visitors
understand the marine ecosystems, the
biodiversity and the richness of the underwater
world.

How to get there:
Easy access from the promenade along the
Arroyo de la Miel beach, about 20 metres
before reading the Residencia Marymar in the
direction of Fuengirola. There are signs
indicating the Centro del Mar along the
promenade. The Entrance is on the beach side,
next to the tourist information point.

Daily activities:
Presentations regarding sharks and rays
At certain times during the day, we can also
observe how the sharks are fed by keepers,
even eating right from the keepers' hands.
Through its SOS programmes, The European
Sea Life Centre Network leads a campaign every
year for the conservation of species in danger of
extinction.
Surrounded by 500,000 litres of water, we will see
close to 30,000 surprising creatures - some native to Spain, and others from exotic spots across
the world. Among coral reefs and with a perfect
recreation of marine banks, we will meet the species that live just off the Mediterranean shores.
This trip will take us to the home of the stingray, a
friendly animal that one can pet and even feed.
We will also explore the surprising kingdom of the
sea horse and see countless brightly coloured
tropical fish
The latest addition to Benalmádena Sea Life is an
exhibition of more than 20 species of sharks from
all over the world. This highly interactive initiative
teaches us, through panels and discussions, the
unique characteristics of certain animals that are
unfairly preceded by dark legends.

The first interactive aquarium in
Andalusia offers us a glimpse of the most hidden
mysteries of the underwater kingdom. The
penetrating aroma of the sea and the whispering
of the waves let us know that our fascinating
journey to the sea world has begun.
The centre has several reproduction and
breeding in captivity programmes. In terms of
breeding in captivity, the biologists at Sea Life
have obtained notable achievements, like the
birth of eagle rays, redspotted catshark and
seahorses in captivity.

Amazonia transports the visitor to the most
celebrated and charismatic tropical rainforest with
a large selection of flora and fauna from the
mighty Amazon. In total, this habitat houses over
800 animals, with nearly 50 different species, and
40 species of plants.
ICE ISLAND
A change to the tour landscape and temperature
moves the visitor into the chilly southern lands of
Latin America -Ice Island, where the cold is the
star of everything around. Ice Island houses the
first Penguinarium in Andalusia and the Placita de
las Américas - where visitors are shown out, but
not without the opportunity to quench their thirst
and satisfy their appetite in the La Colonial

Américas, where a legendary 'crista gallis' tree
from the faraway lands of Latin America, with its

A relaxing stroll leads to the Las Antillas area.
Unique, playful young sea lion specimens from
the far-off lands of Chilean and Argentinean
Patagonia welcome the visitor to this Caribbean
landscape. The large Selwo Marina Dolphinarium
complex is made up of a large stand so as to
comfortably see the dolphin and sea lion shows
and by five swimming pools, two for training, one
for reproduction, one for veterinary treatment and
one for shows.

The 4x4 trucks transport visitors along the Route
of the Valleys, where the adventure begins with a
run through wild country playing home to
American bison, kulan wild horses, European
bison, camels and Arabian camels. Further on are
Bear Gorge, Tiger Valley and Lion Ridge. The
Valley Route leads to the Vantage Point of Africa,
the highest area in the park.

The Portico to Nature, the visitor welcoming area
at Selwo Aventura, houses a careful leafy tropical
and subtropical environment where Washingtonia
palm trees, Fiji fan palms, split leaf
philodendrons, birds of paradise, banana plants
and a Nature Reserve with different primate
species stand out. Bird Canyon, the Park's
second route and largest natural aviary in
Europe, plays home to nearly 1000 bird
specimens from all four corners of the Planet.
For Selwo Aventura, maintaining an
environmental balance is a priority with a
commitment to protecting endangered flora and
fauna. The Nature Classroom runs innovative
environmental activity programmes aimed at 8 to
17 year olds, where respect for the environment,
animals and plants is learnt whilst surrounded by

Fuengirola Zoo has been referred to
in National Geographic as one of the most
modern zoos in Spain and one of the best in
Europe. It has transformed the old concept of
"beast cages" showing wildlife just as it is. The
Fuengirola Zoo faithfully recreates the tropical

CLARO DE SELVA, A LIVE DOCUMENTARY
With the exhibition Claro de Selva, visitors get
closer to some animals that are found in tropical
forests. The setting reproduces a clearing in the
forest around two gigantic trees, a waterfall, a
river and tropical vegetation. Visitors can pay a
virtual visit to the tropical forest while looking at
the animals in their natural environment. This
exhibition -the first of its kind in Spain- brings
together land mammals and birds.

You'll be impressed as soon as you enter the zoo,
as a big baobab tree, over 25m high, welcomes
visitors. This tree represents the doorway to
Madagascar, an island on which three different
varieties of lemur live -one of the endangered
species that are kept in the Fuengirola Zoo.

What makes this zoo original and exclusive is the
careful recreation of the different habitats. The
park represents the natural environment of wild
animals so that visitors can feel as if they were
walking along trails in Madagascar, tropical Africa

Crocodile Park
Following spectacular nuptial courtship during
which this great male performs an elaborate
aquatic dance, his five females are left in a state
of gestation for 2 months, after which they deposit
from 30 to 50 eggs. Every year a large number of
baby crocodiles are born.

"Cocodrilos Park Torremolinos" is located in
the well-known "Milla de Oro" (Golden Mile), a
sports and leisure area comprised of a water
park, sports village, botanical garden, the new
bullring and the Los Manantiales complex.

picture taken holding a baby crocodile in your

equestrian sports lovers.

games. Special Summer Courses during the
months of July, August and September. Birthday

Racecourse! An ideal place to hold celebrations,
product presentations, fairs and events, the day is
split amongst five races with half hour intervals in
between. The track order so as to enjoy the races
is as follows:
The racetrack consists of two sand tracks: one
1,700 m and the other 1,600 metres in length
and both are 25 metres wide. It currently has
322 fully finished stalls, with plans for a
second phase to reach a total of 650 stalls
Visitors have at their disposal a large square in
front of the tracks which measures 30,000 m2,
stands to accommodate 2,000 spectators and
all the amenities of a modern racetrack. Other

Costa, right in the heart of Costa del Sol in the
Mijas municipality. There are two direct
entrances: one from Cala de Mijas and
another from road N-340 opposite the

RHYTHM ON HORSEBACK is a very
successful horse show that has been run since 1993.
Without doubt, the fifteen-year experience and the
quality of the shows ensure customer satisfaction.
This beautiful show is well-known throughout
the Costa del Sol. Over 100,000 people have
watched and enjoyed it. It was also staged
successfully in horse shows abroad, like the
World Equestrian Week, held in The Hague
(Netherlands).
LONG REINS AND IN-HAND WORK
With the rider standing on the ground, the
performance begins with the most difficult highschool gaits like piaffe, the Spanish passage,
courbette, capriole.

The horse show features five different
performances. Its runtime is one and a half hours,
with a 10-minute interval.
A real equestrian ballet whose choreography is
based on classical dressing and "doma
vaquero" (commonly used to work cattle), with
Spanish music and Andalusian clothes.

Since our visitors requested it, we started offering
FERIA DEL SUR (Southern Fair) in 2000. It
consists in dinner with a flamenco show that,
along with RITMO A CABALLO make the perfect
Andalusian mix.

performance in horse shows because it
harmoniously combines difficulty, beauty, grace,
presence, and composure of horsewomen.
(2) A magic understanding between man and
horse. Different gaits from high school dressing
movements like passage, piaffe, change of leg
and airs above the ground.

This carrousel is a kind of summary of the
harmony and serenity of the elements in the
show Rhythm on Horseback (Ritmo a Caballo)
The traditional and strict elegance of this
dressage can be seen in a group of Spanish
horses moving in unison to the rhythm of
music. The Spanish horse is noble, generous,
fine-looking, and brave, fit for a king.

of the biggest casinos of Spain and consists of a
slot-machine room, a very large main gambling

In order to have access to the Gambling
Halls, you have to show an entrance card that
you will be given upon presentation of your
national identification card, passport or

which may be general, seasonal, for specific
days or times during which the gambling

The second part of the show takes the audience
to a "tablao flamenco," a stage on which several
"palos" are played by a "cantaor" or singer from
Jerez, a guitarist and a percussionist who hits the
"cajón flamenco." The stage looks like a typical
Andalusian street on which fourteen dancers do
traditional flamenco dance.

Most of the cave corresponds to the so-called High
Galleries and New Galleries, which can be visited in
spelunking tours in winter. You need to register for a
tour of this kind.
FESTIVAL
The Nerja Cave has been home to the "Cueva de
Nerja" International Dance and Music Festival held for five days in the second half of July- since
1960. The festival draws top international artists
in the fields of ballet, opera, Spanish dance, and
flamenco. Some of the artists who have taken
part in it are Mstislav Leopoldovich Rostropovich,
José Carreras, Paco de Lucía, and dancers from
the Vienna State Opera Ballet.

It has been designated as a Historic and Artistic
Monument and Asset of Interest in the category of
Archaeological Site. In fact, it is a major tourist
attraction in Spain.

reached via the A-7, exit 295 to Maro, Cueva
de Nerja. If you're in Nerja, you should take the
N-340 in Maro.

Cabarets
Lhe Nerja Cave was discovered in
1959 by a group of guys from Maro, on the
outskirts of Nerja, Málaga Province. It opened its
doors to the public in 1960.
The Nerja Cave's formation dates back to the
Triassic. It emerged from the bottom of the old
Mediterranean Sea, i.e. the Tethys Ocean. Its
definitive shape was the result of geological
processes taking place during the Cretaceous, the
Miocene, and the Pleistocene.
