Burning Bush Community Organizer
Greetings to our Neighbors, Family and Friends:
As the community organizer, my goal is
to establish and maintain collaborative
linkages with the community on social and
environment justice issues.
With an abundance of overwhelming joy, I am
proud to announce the launch of The Burning
Bush Newsletter—Partnership for the Betterment
of our Community. “Our Community…”
When opportunity knocked, we answered.
With collaborative efforts, we want to encourage
open dialogue with our community leaders and
organizers. By faith and with a strong commitment,
we are determined to provide useful resources,
promote spiritual awareness and strengthen the
family structure through education, civil and
neighborhood engagements. As we look to be a
beacon of hope for the betterment of our
community, I pray that you are inspired to join
forces with us in this endeavor. I look forward to
a healthy, long-term partnership with you all.
God bless you!
Our Commitment To
illingness to
ngage in workable
olutions, so
he residents
iving in our community

here they can go
ext for assistance.
Felons Voting Rights
The most common type of law regarding
felon voting exists in 20 states. Under this
version of the law, a felon automatically
obtains a restoration of voting rights when
his or her entire sentence is completed.
This means the convicted felon is no longer
incarcerated, or on parole, probation, or
supervised release. These states are:
Alaska—Arkansas—Georgia—Idaho—Iowa
Kansas—Louisiana—Maryland—Minnesota
Missouri—Nebraska—New Jersey—
New Mexico—North Carolina—Oklahoma
South Carolina—Texas—Washington
West Virginia—Wisconsin
Nationwide, an estimated 13 percent of
African-American men have lost the right to
vote because of spending time in prison, a
rate that is seven times the national average.
Given current rates of incarceration, three
in ten of the next generation of AfricanAmerican men can expect to lose the right
to vote at some point in their lifetime.
Words of Wisdom
from
OUR FOUNDERS
“Change the name of
the church from Mount
Sinai to Greater Mount
Sinai. You will do
greater things.”
Reverend
Walter R. Davis, Sr.
Late Founder
“No matter what you
may be facing and how
difficult life may seem,
just keep coming
through the doors.”

Vision Statement
To reach out to our
community with the life
transforming power
of the Holy Spirit.
Through the preaching
and teaching of the
Gospel message of
salvation applying His
Word to our lives that
we may win souls for
Jesus Christ, building
the Kingdom of God.
To promote educational
advancement that will
prepare our youth as
the leaders of
tomorrow.
To strengthen and
promote wholeness in
the sanctity of marriage
and family structure.
Customer Service is Everywhere
Community Spotlight
A simple smile, shoulders back and
head held high with confidence
speaks volumes to all with whom we
come in contact with on a day-to-day
basis. Generally speaking, “Customer
Service” is the interaction between a
buyer and a seller of goods and/or
services. We should all get in the habit
of exercising patience in an effort to master
the art of customer service.
Brain Brawn & Body
African American Men Health
Brain Brawn & Body is a website dedicated to the wellness of
African American men. Along with its annual publication the mission
of advancing men’s health will be accomplished.
Having That Great Conversation Starts With You
For Example:
Retail
Hello. How are you? Is there something in particular I can help you find today?
Food Service
Good morning, welcome to McDonald’s. Would you like to try one of our combos?
Doctor’s Office
Hello Mrs. Wilson, so good to see you. Please have a seat. Dr. Johnson is just
finishing up with a patient and he will be right with you.
Customer Service Complaint Department
Good afternoon, SERV-U-BETTER Customer Complaints, Dawn speaking.
How may I direct your call?
The Greater Mount Sinai Core Outreach Ministry would like to know…
“How may we assist you?”

Eric Von, formerly of WMCS 1290,
along with his wife Faith Colas,
Community Relations Director at
The Salvation Army, recently celebrated their one-year anniversary
launch of “Brain Brawn & Body”
focusing on the health of African
American Men. “Brain Brawn &
Body” was born out of the duo’s passion for the dissemination of vital
information and the realization that there is a need for more culturally
sensitive sources. Both see the website’s focus on health and wellness,
awareness and prevention as imperative in light of the serious health
concerns that face African American men. These are the driving forces
behind “Brain Brawn & Body.” www.brainbrawnbody.com
