INTRODUCTIONS
Study Overview
A feasibility study to evaluate bus rapid transit service in
the 7-mile East-West Corridor connecting major
employment and activity centers between downtown
Milwaukee, the Milwaukee Regional Medical Center
(MRMC), and Milwaukee County Research Park (MCRP).

STUDY TIMELINE
Why study the East-West Corridor?
•
Downtown Milwaukee is the largest employment hub in Milwaukee County.
– 81,000 jobs, new investments, 25,000 residents and growing
•
The MRMC and MCRP are significant employment centers and
statewide/regional destinations.
– MRMC has over 30,000 daily visitors and employees,
with just under 13,000 parking spaces
– MCRP has 4,600 employees
•
Other key destinations: Marquette University, Harley-Davidson, MillerCoors,
Miller Park, neighborhood retail centers, and strong neighborhoods in both
Milwaukee and Wauwatosa.
•
Local streets experience traffic congestion in a corridor.
– Anticipated growth from employment and activity centers
– Additional traffic due to anticipated I-94 reconstruction project
STUDY PURPOSE AND NEED
Project Needs
•
Reduce vehicle traffic volume, alleviate
traffic congestion, and provide a reliable
travel option.
•
Implement a transit alternative that will
be an attractive choice for those who
own an automobile.
•
Decrease transportation energy
consumption and air pollutant
emissions.
•
•
Mitigate the traffic congestion which may
be expected for multiple years during
the reconstruction of the East-West
Freeway (I-94).
Efficiently serve the substantial travel
demand of Milwaukee’s central business
district, the Milwaukee Regional Medical
Center, and the Milwaukee County
Research Park; and accommodate and
support planned growth.
•
Encourage new, denser, mixed-use
development and redevelopment.
•
Support the transit element of planned
regional multimodal improvements to
address existing and future travel
demand.
•
Provide those without an automobile
better access to jobs, healthcare,
education, and other elements of daily
life.
