All Correspondence to: APHA Inc. Administrator – National Office P O Box 130 SUNBURY VIC 3429 Editor’s Editor’s News News Well a very busy time of the year for all of us, with preparing for our Dressage Day, Promotional Days, Championships and campaigning to keep Pally classes at our local Agricultural Shows. Please try and support the classes, to keep them going. I have included some of the programs available. Unfortunately, due to lack of support, we had to postpone our Dressage day to 12th October and it will now be held at a new venue, Leighdale Equestrian Centre. It is a great facility with sand areas, so if you can, please come along and support our event - you could win a special Palomino sash. Helpers are needed for the day so if you are available to help out in any way, it would be greatly appreciated. We are also looking at running a Palomino Judges, Classifiers & Enthusiasts Seminar, which would be a wonderful day to meet and catch up with new and current members. We have new APHA merchandise, which will be available by ordering through the mail, on the Internet or at the office at the Championships. Items Include, caps, polo tops, small decals and large decals for the horse float. (See order form in this edition). Good to see our Stallion Edition has been successful. Our members have been wonderful to support an advertising campaign in Horse Deals, which is great promotion for our Society and their studs. All the stallions can also be found on our website; www.apha.net.au Classification Days - 2008 3rd & 4th October - Swan Hill 5th October - Sunbury 16th October - Mildura 19th October - Ballarat 19th October - Berwick 12th December - Bendigo - I look forward to meeting you all at the Palomino Championships in December! Cheers Sharon RECYCLE A RIBBON If you win a ribbon at our Championship Show and wish to donate it back to the Association, there will be a “ribbon recycle” box up at the Show Office on the Show weekend. All returns will receive a ticket in the Giant Super Christmas Raffle. For Classification Information, please contact: APHA Inc. Administrator 03 9744 3256 Email: [email protected] P O Box 130 Sunbury VIC 3429 A Message from the President Dear Members, As you may be aware, Lola Milne has now officially retired from her position of Secretary. Lola has been in this position for well over 20 years and she will be sadly missed. Her work and dedication has been second to none and we thank you Lola for your loyalty and love to this Society. I’m sure we have not seen the last of you! We wish you all the very best in your retirement and hope that you and your beloved husband Bruce (commonly known as “Bru”), can spend some quality time together. The Secretarial job has been dissected, all positions have been allocated voluntarily as follows; Jan Lovett – APHA Inc. Administrator, Classification Co-ordinator and Publicity Officer. Nadine Gass – Minutes Secretary, Registrar and Foal Futurity Co-ordinator. Colin Lovett – Treasurer. Sharyn Mangan – Awards and Website Co-ordinator. Contact numbers for all can be found on our website or at the front of this magazine. All Double Point Shows are listed on the website as well as in this magazine. Our Dressage Day, which is to be held on Sunday 12th October 2008 at the new venue, the “Leighdale Equestrian Centre” at Teesdale. We hope that the day will be hugely supported and if you cannot ride, your help on the day would be greatly appreciated. The event is a very laid back social event and is a great opportunity for you to bring out your young horses or even to give yourself a first start. This is an open event, you do not have to have a Palomino to participate, but it is certainly an added bonus for you if you do! Classification dates and venues have been set and all queries are to be directed to the Classification Co-ordinator, Jan Lovett (telephone number to be found again on either the website or in the magazine). Our Annual Show this year is shaping up to be a very exciting weekend with changes to our program being extra classes, great awards and a major Christmas hamper raffle. This weekend has been loved by the many members who have participated for so long. We hope to see new members come along this year. Caravans can be hired through ------ or pull into a powered site and set up your float for the weekend. There will be a food van on site. The promotional booth will be open (next to the Show Office) for the sale of our new caps, polo shirts and stickers. Hope to see you all there! For all enquiries, please phone Jan Lovett, the APHA Inc. Administrator. Your President, Pam Winch Australian Palomino Horsebreeders Association Inc. ANNUAL GENERAL GENERAL MEETING 15TH March 2009 BENDIGO SHOWGROUNDS MEETING COMMENCES AT 1.00PM 1.00PM SHARP NOTE that memberships are due and payable on the 1st January 2009, and only FINANCIAL MEMBERS will be eligible to vote. YOUR MEMBERSHIP FORM IS IN THIS NEWSLETTER It is a FIRST AND FINAL notice – NO reminders will be given. A Committee Nomination Form is also enclosed in this Newsletter. ALTERATION TO RULES A Special General Meeting will be held at Bendigo Showgrounds on Saturday 18th October 2008 commencing at 1.00pm to consider and resolve the following Special Resolution; That the Rules of the Australian Palomino Horsebreeders Association Inc. be altered by deleting the sub-heading AUDITOR and the following Rules 50 and 51 which read; 50. There shall be an Auditor who shall be a Public Accountant or Accountants. The Auditor shall be appointed by the Annual General Meeting and such appointment shall be made for such term and at such fee and upon such conditions as the Meeting may think fit. 51. The fee of the Auditor shall be payable exclusively out of the revenue of the Association. Rationale; The provisions set out in the abovementioned Rules are not required under the Associations Incorporation Act 1981 for an Association of our size and its existence and need for compliance has caused the Association considerable unnecessary cost. It is suggested that those funds could be better spent for the benefit of our Members. GIANT SUPER APHA INC. (A0007216F ABN: 70637393265) Message to All Palomino Owners Our Association accepts membership from all parts of Australia We regularly receive inquiries from many parts of Australia seeking to find out why there are so many Palomino groups in the Country. In order to provide some sort of response to the inquiries, our Association, in the interest of Palomino owners throughout Australia, provide the following information in an effort to clear up the confusion that inquirers experience. Currently there are five organisations in Australia providing registrations and other benefits for Palomino coloured horses/ponies. That number is far too many and totally unnecessary. The organisations are listed below in the order they were established. 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. Australian Palomino Horsebreeders Association Incorporated Western Australian Palomino Association Incorporated New South Wales Palomino Society Incorporated Australian Palomino Horse Association Incorporated United Palomino White Buckskin & Dun Association Limited The Australian Palomino Horsebreeders Association was founded in Australia in 1948 and was the only Palomino association in the country until 1971, when the group named Western Australian Palomino Association Inc. (WAPA) was formed to service Palomino owners in the vast area of Western Australia. New South Wales Palomino Society Inc. was established in 1991, Australian Palomino Horse Association Inc. was established in 1995, and United Palomino White Buckskin & Dun Association Ltd, (formerly Palominos Australia / APHA Ltd) was established in 1996. In October 1996, our Association responsibly wrote to all “Royal” Agricultural Shows in Australia suggesting that they recognise all the five Palomino groups in respect to eligibility to exhibit and as far as we are aware, with written confirmation from some, or recommendation was adopted. It was expected that our recommendation would flow through to all (non-royal) Agricultural Societies but have found that not to be the case, which surely should be of concern to all Palomino exhibitors regardless of what group they are registered with. It is also know that owners of a registered Palomino who wish to sell, lease, or exhibit, in certain parts of Australia have been forced, in order to effect a sale etc., to become members and have their horses registered with another group. Clearly with five Palomino registries the situation is unsatisfactory. How ever can anyone trace a history under the circumstances? Contrary to claims made by any other group, our Association has, to the best of our knowledge and belief all of the pre-1996 records of the Australian Palomino Horsebreeders Association. They include brands, stud prefixes and horse registrations. OPEN ASSOCIATES DRESSAGE DAY Held by The Australian Palomino Horsebreeders Association Inc.
