HAMPTON TERRACE GOLF LINKS
ages will be able to design their own postcards.
Also on display are Stories & Legends – Remembering the Augusta National, thru Sept. 2, and
Augusta History on Canvas, thru Aug. 31. Other exhibitions include From Ty to Cal-Century of
Baseball in Augusta; the Augusta Arsenal (1826-1872); and James Brown–A Memorial Tribute.

information phone 706-722-8454 or visit www.augustamuseum.org.
Fitzgerald and the Blue & Gray Museum
Located in a historical railroad depot, the Blue & Gray Museum
tells through a documentary and more than 1200 artifacts the
remarkable story of Fitzgerald and its Civil War roots. The Hall of
Honor represents Shacktown where early pioneers lived while an
exciting documentary, Marching as One, celebrates the Yank-Reb
harmony story. Fitzgerald was founded in 1895 by Philander H.
Fitzgerald, a Union veterans’ pension lawyer from Indiana who
was seeking a warm, receptive area of the country where aging
Union veterans and their families could retire in comfort.
Visit the Fire Engine Museum; tour historic homes and buildings; and view a variety of
architectural styles representing the settlers who came here from 38 states. Walk through
Evergreen Cemetery where Yanks and Rebs rest side by side. Delight in home-cooked foods. For
more information phone 800-386-4642 or visit www.fitzgeraldga.org.
National Civil War Naval Museum at Port Columbus
Explore naval operations for the North and South through displays of uniforms, artillery,
firearms, personal effects, flags, and Civil War ship murals.
See an ironclad ram, blockade runner, gunboat, ship replicas, a paneled timeline of the war at sea, and a battle simulator theater. Open daily 9 a.m.-5 p.m. See coupon in ad
on page 7. 1002 Victory Drive, Columbus. For more information phone 706-327-9798 or visit www.portcolumbus.org.
The Cool History weekend on Aug. 4-5 will focus on the
infamous raider, the CSS Alabama, which for two years
attacked Northern merchant shipping. Capt. Semmes and
his ship captured or destroyed more than 60 Northern vessels and was chased around the world by U.S. Navy warships. During this Cool History, visitors
will be a part of his second command that took place off the coast of the Azores in the eastern
Atlantic. The museum will fire its huge naval cannon several times during the weekend.

Georgia’s Peach Blossom Trail
This you won’t want to miss as you make your way through Georgia along US 41 and US 341
as an alternative drive to the traffic on I-75. Generations of farmers produce over 40 varieties of
peaches that are commercially grown in the Peach State. In a good season, which lasts about
16 weeks during the heat of the summer, Georgia will produce 150 million pounds of peaches
resulting in an economic impact of 50 million dollars. Learn first hand about the great debate of
which tastes better-peach cobbler or peace
pie! And don’t forget the homemade peach
ice cream, all of which you will find along the
counties that comprise Georgia’s Peach
Blossom Trail: Clayton, just south of Atlanta,
Henry, Spalding, Lamar, Monroe, Crawford,
Peach, and Houston in Middle Georgia.
From May through August, enjoy the fresh
Georgia Peach at local packing facilities that
offer farm tours and the opportunity to see
peaches graded, sized, and packed for
consumption. You’ll find the best of Georgia’s
agriculture throughout the year from peachy
products to hot boiled peanuts, tomatoes,
okra, apples, and cucumbers. Stop by and
take home a little taste of Georgia.

Arts in the Heart of Augusta
The Arts in the Heart of Augusta Festival, scheduled for
September 14-16, will showcase the visual and performing arts and
celebrate the ethnic groups who blend to create the heart of the city.
Approximately twelve local ethnic groups, representing over 35 countries, will lend their ethnic flair and talents to the festival and will prepare the food sold in the Global Village. Ireland will be the featured
group this year.
Weekend badges will be $5, giving access to a diverse festival full
of food from around the world, four stages of non-stop entertainment,
a free hands-on children’s area, and over 70 fine artists and crafters.
ART 45 will return as local artists paint for 45 hours on the Augusta
Common. The Young Artists Market will allow ages 14 and under to sell
their artwork; and a Children's Area will offer free hands-on activities.
The Southern Beer Garden will feature regional beers; and the
Literary Village will welcome authors selling their books.
Plan to stay for the weekend; great hotel rates are available. For more information visit
www.artsintheheart.com or call 706-826-4702 or 706-481-8010.
Because schedules sometimes change
we recommend that you call for information
before driving long distances to events.
