Three decades ago saw the birth of what is today the oldest tourist train in Spain: El Transcantábrico. What was then a
gamble for a country that had never seen a train of these performance features and characteristics in operation is now an
internationally renowned and consolidated product. After successive changes and improvements over its now long history,

Saloon coaches
The suites
El Transcantábrico has the original 1923 Pullman coaches, real
gems of historical railway heritage, specially decorated for this
luxury train. A la carte breakfasts are served daily in these areas,
as well as the fine cuisine prepared by our chef in the dinners or
lunches served on board. In addition, the coach bar stays open
permanently to serve customers, who can also enjoy other areas
such as tea rooms, a panoramic coach or the pub coach, where
parties, music or live performances are offered every night.

The whole train, both rooms and common areas, is connected
internally, allowing free movement of passengers.

A fully equipped room to enjoy a comfortable stay on board. It

Deluxe Suite
In design, space, quality and modern features the Deluxe suites are
comparable to the rooms of the most prestigious five-star accommodation. They feature:
• Ample space distributed into a lounge, bedroom and bathroom.
• Two metre long double bed or individual twin beds in the bedroom. A sofa which can be turned into a double bed in the
lounge.
•Equipped with wardrobe, luggage rack, desk, safe, LED
screens, musical tuner, climate control, multimedia computer
with free Internet access, internal telephone and minibar.
• Comfortable and spacious bathroom, with hydro-massage
shower/steam sauna, hairdryer and a varied set of welcome

In the 2014 season, El Transcantábrico includes among its major new items the possibility of choosing the number of days on board
within each general route established. All of this in order to suit the needs and travel time that customers desire.
Each El Transcantábrico tour combines on board cuisine and top-class restaurants. The pleasure of the journey is also based on a
careful balance between train travel and the stays and visits on different stages of the route. As the train remains in the station, passengers can choose between the scheduled tour, staying on board or going out on their own to enjoy the town wherever they are.

FIRST DAY, SATURDAY
FIFTH DAY, WEDNESDAY
▶ San Sebastián – Villasana de Mena
Rendezvous in San Sebastian at 12:00. Passengers reception,
welcome and lunch in San Sebastián, a city of elegant beauty
and home to major cultural events such as its Film and Jazz festivals. Tour of the town after lunch and transfer by coach to Bilbao,
where El Transcantábrico is waiting. Reception and settling in
on the train. Once on board we will head for Villasana de Mena
while we enjoy our first dinner. Night in Villasana de Mena/Mercadillo.
▶ Arriondas – Oviedo – Candás
SECOND DAY, SUNDAY
After breakfast on board we will travel by coach from Arriondas
to the Picos de Europa National Park, where we will visit its Lakes
and the Shrine of Covadonga. At the end of the morning we will
visit Cangas de Onis, the first medieval capital of the Kingdom
of Asturias, where we will enjoy a typical Asturian meal. Back
on the train we will travel to Oviedo, capital of the Principality
of Asturias and the city that possesses a handful of unique PreRomanesque monuments. Afternoon free with a visit. Dinner on
board as we go to Candás by train. Night in Candás.
▶ Villasana de Mena – Bilbao – Santander
SIXTH DAY, THURSDAY
We travel to Bilbao while enjoying breakfast on the train. City
tour, which includes entrance to the famous Guggenheim Museum. At the end of the morning we will return to El Transcantábrico, which will set off for Santander. Lunch will take place
during the trip. Afternoon free with a visit of the city, featuring
the Mataleñas area, the Sardinero Beach and La Magdalena Peninsula, where King Alfonso XIII had his summer residence. Dinner and overnight stay in Santander.
▶ Candás – Avilés – Gijón – Luarca
THIRD DAY, MONDAY
SEVENTH DAY, FRIDAY
▶ Santander – Potes – Cabezón de la Sal
▶ Luarca – Ribadeo – Viveiro
While having breakfast on board we will arrive in Unquera.
By coach, and through the gorge of La Hermida, we reach the
Shrine of Santo Toribio de Liébana and later Potes, known as the
town of bridges and towers. After visiting this charming town,
we will have a typical Cantabrian meal there. Afternoon with free
time before returning to the train. Dinner and overnight stay in
Cabezón de la Sal.
FOURTH DAY, TUESDAY
▶ Cabezón de la Sal – Santillana del Mar – Arriondas
After breakfast on board and from Cabezón de la Sal we travel
to the Neocave of Altamira, the greatest exponent of Upper Palaeolithic cave art. Later we visit the town of Santillana del Mar,
with its beautifully preserved medieval old town. We will take the
train after lunch to continue the journey to the fishing village of
Ribadesella, in Asturias. Free time to visit the town. Late in the
evening we will travel by train to Arriondas, while enjoying dinner. Night in Arriondas.

After breakfast on board the train, we go by coach from Candás
to Avilés, the industrial city par excellence that has preserved its
valuable historic old town. Then we go to Gijón, a city that is as
open to the Cantabrian Sea as it is full of cultural events. After
visiting the city and enjoying the food, the journey will continue
by train to Luarca, a pretty seaside town embedded in a stunning
landscape. Afternoon free. Dinner and overnight stay in Luarca.
The journey takes us through the seductive Western Asturias to
the actual border with Galicia, in whose first town, Ribadeo, the
train will stop. Having breakfasted, we go by coach to the Playa
de Las Catedrales, so named for the series of boulders and cliffs,
some over 32 metres high, that erosion has sculpted in the form
of arches and vaults to create one of the world's most spectacular beaches. Lunch in Ribadeo. In the afternoon, we will travel
to the historic town of Viveiro, capital of the region of A Mariña
Occidental. Dinner and overnight stay in Viveiro.
EIGHTH DAY, SATURDAY
▶ Viveiro – Santiago de Compostela
The train will take us from Viveiro to Ferrol while we enjoy our
last breakfast on board. By coach we will reach the final destination of our journey, Santiago de Compostela. We will visit this
iconic Galician city, destination of pilgrims for a millennium, and
where we will contemplate artistic jewels such as the Cathedral
and the Plaza del Obradoiro. End of trip in Santiago de Compostela at 14:00.
Santiago de Compostela – San Sebastián 8 Days/7 Nights
FIRST DAY, SATURDAY
▶ Santiago de Compostela – Viveiro

Rendezvous in Santiago de Compostela at 12:00. Following the
reception, we will visit the historic centre of this city, destination
of pilgrims for a millennium, and where we will contemplate artistic jewels such as the Cathedral and the Plaza del Obradoiro.
Lunch at a city centre restaurant. In the afternoon we will go by
coach to Ferrol to join the train, and where the crew will be waiting to welcome us. After settling into our suite, enjoy the first trip
on board until the historic town of Viveiro, capital of the region
of A Mariña Occidental. Dinner and overnight stay in Viveiro.
While having breakfast the train travels along the line linking
Asturias and Cantabria. By coach we will then cross the gorge

Breakfast on the train and trip to Ribadeo, located on the border
between Galicia and Asturias. From here we will go by coach
along the coast of Lugo to the Playa de Las Catedrales, so named
for the series of cliffs, some over 32 metres high, that erosion
has sculpted in the form of arches and vaults to create one of
the world's most spectacular beaches. Lunch in Ribadeo and
free time before returning to the train. We continue our journey
crossing landscapes in Western Asturias until we reach Luarca,
the White Town of the Green Coast. Dinner and overnight stay
in Luarca.
THIRD DAY, MONDAY
▶ Luarca – Avilés – Gijón – Oviedo – Candás
We travel from Luarca to Candás while we enjoy breakfast on
board. The first visit of the day is to Avilés, the industrial city
par excellence that has preserved its valuable historic old town.
Then we go to Gijón, a city that is as open to the Cantabrian
Sea as it is full of cultural events. Visit and lunch in Gijón. In
the afternoon we will travel to Oviedo, capital of the Principality
of Asturias and the city that possesses a handful of unique PreRomanesque monuments. Afternoon free with a visit. Dinner on
board as the train takes us to Candás. Night in Candás.

the famous Guggenheim Museum, symbol of the new Bilbao.
Afternoon free. To end the day, we return to the train. Dinner and
overnight stay in Villasana de Mena/Mercadillo.
▶ Villasana de Mena – San Sebastián
While we enjoy our last breakfast on board, we arrive in Bilbao,
where we take the coach that will transport us to the final destination of our trip: San Sebastian. We will visit this city, cultural
capital famous for its beauty and it Film and Jazz festivals. End of
trip in San Sebastian at 14:00.
▶ Candás – Arriondas – Llanes
While we have breakfast and take in the landscape, we will reach
Arriondas and from there travel by coach to the Picos de Europa
National Park, where we will visit its Lakes and the Shrine of

Rendezvous at 12:00 in León. Then we will travel to the centre
of the city to visit the monumental traces of its rich history. After
lunch, we will return to the train, where the crew will welcome us
and we can settle into our suites on board. We begin the trip to
Cistierna, where we will enjoy some free time. Dinner and overnight stay in Cistierna.
After breakfast on board we will travel by coach from Arriondas

Roman villa at La Olmeda and its superb collection of mosaics.
Then we will go to one of the best collections of Romanesque
Art in Europe, located in the Palencia villages of Carrión de los
Condes, Villalcazar de Sirga and Frómista. After lunch we will
enjoy some stunning scenery as we travel by train to the Burgos
town of Villasana de Mena. Dinner and overnight stay in Villasana de Mena/Mercadillo.
SIXTH DAY, THURSDAY
▶ Candás – Avilés – Gijón – Luarca
Visit to Avilés after breakfast on board. We will discover this
industrial city that has preserved its valuable historic old town.
Then we go to Gijón, a city that is open to the Cantabrian Sea and
full of cultural events. Visit and lunch in Gijón. In the afternoon
our tour will continue to Luarca, the White Town of the Green
Coast, nestled between steep landscapes that lead to the sea.
Afternoon free. Dinner and overnight stay in Luarca.
THIRD DAY, MONDAY
▶ Villasana de Mena – Bilbao – Santander

After breakfast on board, we will visit Bilbao in the morning, a
historic city full of dynamism that has managed to reinvent itself after the decline of its heavy industry. Then we will take the
train to travel to Santander, while enjoying a delicious meal on
board. Free time in Santander, the visit featuring the Mataleñas
area, the Sardinero Beach and La Magdalena Peninsula, where
King Alfonso XIII had his summer residence. Dinner in a typical
restaurant in the city. Those who wish may visit the Casino after
dinner. Night in Santander.
▶ Luarca – Ribadeo – Viveiro
We leave early for Galicia, touring the beautiful landscapes of
Western Asturias. Having breakfasted on board, we go by coach
to the Playa de Las Catedrales, so named for the series of cliffs,
some over 32 metres high, that erosion has sculpted in the form
of arches and vaults to create one of the world's most spectacular beaches. Lunch in Ribadeo and in the afternoon we will travel

the iconic capital of Galicia, to admire artistic jewels such as the
Cathedral and the Plaza del Obradoiro. End of trip in Santiago de
Compostela at 14:00.

In the afternoon Luarca, the White Town of the Green Coast, located in a spectacular and rugged landscape next to the sea.
Dinner and overnight stay in Luarca.

In the morning we travel to the west while we enjoy breakfast
and contemplate the stunning scenery of the Valle de Mena.
From there we will go by coach to see the Canal de Castilla. The
morning will feature the Romanesque Palencia, with three towns
that have preserved architectural treasures in this artistic style:
Villalcazar de Sirga, Carrión de los Condes and Frómista. We will
enjoy a typical lunch in Villalcazar de Sirga and in the afternoon
we will visit the Roman villa of La Olmeda, from where we go
back by train to travel to Cistierna. Dinner and overnight stay in
Cistierna.
FOURTH DAY, TUESDAY

While we have breakfast and take in the landscape, we will arrive
in Arriondas. We climb up by coach to the Picos de Europa National Park, with its Lakes and the Shrine of Covadonga. Lunch
will be in Cangas de Onis, the first capital of the Kingdom of
Asturias, which we will visit. We return to the train to travel to
Llanes, a very pretty fishing town in Eastern Asturias. Afternoon
free to visit the town. Dinner and overnight stay in Llanes.
On our last day we travel from Cistierna to Leon over breakfast.
We will visit this city that is so full of history, and where the old
town will surely surprise us. End of our trip in Leon at 14:00.

You can also hire El Transcantábrico exclusively for groups from 26 people as a minimum and up to a maximum of 54. Business
trips, leisure, conferences, incentives, product launches, etc.
The charter trips are according to customer preferences, with many possibilities from which to choose, including:
• Duration : the customer can decide the number of days that the train will be hired for, from various possibilities.
•Route: there are about 1,200 km of metre gauge in northern Spain. Routes and stops can be plotted along these routes to suit
the customer.
•Activities: visits and activities along the route are also flexible. You can place the emphasis on culture, nature, adventure, gastronomy, sport or any other variant or a careful blend of them all.
•Price: depending on the different variables our booking staff will prepare the corresponding estimate.
