Training
248 CMR Tier Program for Licensure of Plumbers
This twelve week survey course will introduce the
student to the physical and chemical processes
associated with water quality, pollution, and treatment
of liquid wastes, as they pertain to Municipal and
Industrial Operations. The student will be exposed to
the function of related equipment and support systems
and the environmental responsibilities required to
safely and properly operate, maintain and manage a
Wastewater Treatment Facility. Topics covered
include wastewater flow, wastewater characteristics,
collections systems, regulations, mathematics,
laboratory and various treatment processes. The
course will concentrate on preparing the student to
take a Massachusetts Industrial, Municipal or
Combined Wastewater Certification Exam Grades 1-5.
PL-01: Tier 1 program for the licensed apprentice
plumber. Course consists of 110 class hours along
with a final exam. Licensees must pass tier 1 final
exam before continuing to PL-02.

MA master plumbers and gas fitters, journeyman
plumbers and gasfitters, and LP installers are required by CMR 11.00 to compete Session #6 prior
to license renewal. This class will utilize IAPMO
course curriculum materials which include Board
updates, chimney and venting updates, appliance
installation requirements, tool and product news,
related industry issues, administrative topics, code
compliant installation methods, alternative plumbing
technologies, and business items that currently
effect all licensees. Students need to sign up for
both courses and need their license number.
PL-06: License test prep. This course is designed
for the licensee preparing for the plumbing exam.
This program is tailored according to the needs of
the students. Extra emphasis focused on areas of
weakness.

The objective of this course is to gain experience as an
EKG technician using the following skills:

An EKG Technician Certificate will be given at course
completion to students receiving a 70% or better course

Also offered (not mandatory or required for employment) is a National Certification by the American Medical Certification Association—AMCA (for an additional
fee).
The Ophthalmic Medical Assistant Program is a
certificate program to help answer the need for
qualified assistants in ophthalmology practices.
This program is designed to teach the basic skills
needed to perform eye exams and prepare the
patient for the ophthalmologist.
With a combination of classroom teaching and a
hands-on clinic in a local ophthalmology office
(Advanced Eye Center, 500 Faunce Corner Rd.)
this program is designed to give the student a
basic foundation of ophthalmic knowledge.
Bilingual ability is a plus in the medical field. Also,
this course does require some knowledge of
basic algebra.

This course will prepare participants for employment within both the clinical and retail pharmacy practice.
Focus will be placed on medical terminology, pharmaceutical calculations, inventory systems, and regulations
affecting pharmacy practice.
Upon completion of this course, students will be prepared to sit for the PTCB (Pharmacy Technician Certification Board) exam which would provide them with a CPHT (Certified Pharmacy Technician) license.

This course will introduce woodworking basics;
specific skills in measurement, layout, and the
proper use of hand tools. Students will be required
to make a few small projects with step-by-step
procedures and instruction. The basics are vital
knowledge needed to better understand more
advanced woodworking techniques. Safety is
stressed throughout.
Prerequisite: CP-01/ previous carpentry training
If you have some experience in woodworking and
would like to take the next step in creating a turn of
the century piece, take the challenge. This course
includes complete step by step instruction in creating
a one of a kind piece such as a Queen Anne step
stool and true hand cut dovetail blanket chest, using
typical hand tools and modern machined techniques.

Millwork
This course will continue with woodworking basics;
specific skills in light power tool equipment, basic
joinery, and cabinet basics. Students will be
required to make a few small projects with step-bystep procedures and instruction. Knowledge gained
will assist students in furthering their skills in
woodworking. Safety is stressed throughout.
The use of power equipment, safety, and operation
make up this program. Students are required to do
a project that involves the use of circular saw, jointer, radial saw, planer, shaper, and small power
tools.

Furniture Refinishing Fundamentals
Residential Housing Technology
If you have a piece of furniture that needs a face lift,
this is the course to take. The first class will be an
orientation to evaluate piece, and an overview of
different types of finishes and solvents. Students
are responsible for all materials, solvents, and
finishes needed. Reconstruction is held to a
minimum.
This course is designed for the future or present
homeowners that are contemplating building,
renovating, or repairing their own homes along with
general home maintenance. Classes will cover
building terminology, replacement windows, code
requirements, and drawing techniques to obtain a
building permit. Shop instruction will include use of
hand and power tools, rafter and stair layout using a
framing square.

Collision Repair
This course is a self-paced learning environment in
which a student can complete one or more projects
in any one session. Total progress per session will
undoubtedly depend upon prior experience and/or
individual’s ability to perform the operations as
instructed.
This course emphasizes the application of basic
skills needed to perform tasks involved in the repair
of automobile bodies. Each student will have the
opportunity to work with the tools, instruments, and
equipment necessary to perform the tasks set forth.
Related Subjects—Measure and measurements,
shop sketches and blueprint reading, review related
math, shop problems and safety.

Diesel Mechanics
Lathe Operations—External operations include plain
turning, threading, taper turning, also use of lathe
chucks. Internal operations include drilling, reaming
and threading. Drill press work is also included in
the program.

common sub-units of a diesel engine. They will then
perform tasks following safe and professional work
habits at industry standards.

This course will continue with Machine Shop Basics. Students will be required to make a few small

this emerging technology include:

machines, proper use of milling machines, and
milling machine operations. Students will be required to make a piece by piece project on a milling

Microsoft Excel 2010
This course will introduce students to basic
concepts of a computer and its capabilities, as well
as the Windows environment. Students will learn
how to customize desktop settings, create shortcut
icons, manage files with Explorer, and work with
applications.
This course will introduce students to Microsoft
Excel. Students will learn how to format data and
use formulas. Students will also learn how to design
charts and how to filter/sort data. Intermediate skills
such as absolute references, conditional formatting,
and linking cells are also introduced in this session.
Students will master the basics of Excel through
hands on instruction.
Prerequisite: Windows or equivalent knowledge.

This course will introduce students to Microsoft
Word and the word processing skills necessary to
write letters and reports, create flyers and
newsletters, and improve office skills. In the handson course, students will learn how to create
documents, format pages and text, create tables,
envelopes and labels, edit and proof documents,
and use the mail merge feature.

This beginners class will introduce students to
database administration through Access. The
student will build, manage and maintain databases
containing numerous objects. Also, the student will
work with the intermediate skills of designing
relational databases, querying databases,

Learn the basics of Windows, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Access. This class covers introductory topics
and concepts that will assist you in gaining an understanding of the programs and their uses. Learn the

teaching using demonstration, tutelage, hands-on, and take home materials. Work smarter, not harder!

This course will introduce HTML as well as popular
Web authoring software to create interactive Web
sites. Students will learn to plan and develop welldesigned Web sites that combine effective

Learn how to use Photoshop as you perform many
different tasks and practice using Photoshop tools.
You will learn about retouching, selection, layers,
color modification, file formats, cropping and type

Shop instruction on the operation, care, maintenance, and safety in machine operation, blueprint
readings, welding symbols, voltages, amperages,
and rod selection. Use of welding machine for
beading, butt, flat, vertical, pipe, and overhead
welding are covered in this course.
This is an introductory program involving the
feeding of a consumable wire through a shielding
gas and also tungsten inert gas welding.

will enable the student to speak, as well as

floral projects such as wreath making and decorating; how to care and condition cut and dried flowers;

Gardening Skills

Your garden work is not quite finished when you
harvest your last tomato or cut the last flower.
Getting your garden ready for the winter and the
next season is important for success in the spring.
In this 6-week course we will review the tasks and
develop a time-line that will work for you and also
explore some fun activities to ‘keep your thumb
green’.
American Sign Language
This course will focus on survival skills in signs, with
emphasis on building receptive and expressive sign
vocabulary; use of signing space; use of non-manual
components, including facial expressions; sign skills;
body postures; and introduction to finger spelling.

Basic Stained Glass
Stained glass isn’t just for windows anymore!
You will learn the copper foil method to create your
own stained glass projects. We will cover safety
issues associated with working with glass and the
various tools and supplies. We will learn how to cut
glass. We will also cover some decorative soldering
techniques used to enhance your projects. Discover
how to use all your glass scraps to create mosaic
masterpieces for your home and garden. Like
BLING? You can use those scraps for jewelry too!

you who always wanted to make a quilt but don’t
have a lot of time. Learn the latest techniques in

depending on the individual’s ability. You will learn
to carve in relief, in the round and several other
styles. We will discuss safety, tools, sharpening,
woods and finishes. Materials will be provided for

Everyday Cooking the Culinary Way
Combine your love for food with a passion for
knowledge. This course will cover the basic and
advanced preparation of appetizers, stocks, sauces,
soups, meats, seafood and poultry. Combined with
sanitation and proper knife handling skills, together
we will embark upon a tasteful journey full of flavors
and techniques. Come and learn new skills you will
use in everyday situations.

Yoga for Beginners and Intermediate
This eight week course will teach beginning and
intermediate students proper form of the fundamental yoga poses and how to avoid injuries. Students
will gain strength, balance and suppleness from
practicing twice per week. Leave class feeling
relaxed and renewed!

Cake Decorating I
This hands-on course will provide the fundamentals
necessary to create any special occasion cake
from whimsical to elegant designs. Cupcake fillings
and designs will also be covered. Learn how to
make shell borders, drop flowers, sweet peas,
leaves, vines, timeless roses, and use star fill-in
techniques. This course will also focus on how to
make the perfect icing consistency using basic and
butter cream icing. Please bring a small cake to
class with you every week.

Extend the excitement and fun from basic cake
decorating in this class where you will learn how to
work with fondant. You’ll be amazed at how easy it
really is. This class shows you how to cover cakes
in fondant and the different decorating options like
cutouts, figures, and flowers to make gorgeous
cakes for friends and family for years to come.
