Monster Mash Dance
A record CMS crowd gathered for the annual ‘See
You At The Pole’ event, led by students and Mr.
James Greer. Students and teachers gathered in
small groups, praying for our school, our community, and our country. Show above with students
are teachers Cindy Tomlin, Holly Burns and Hiram
Harrison.
Meet Our Teachers
Ms. Renee Verdine has been working at Center Middle School as an ESL teacher for 34 years. She attended three universities, including Baylor, SFA, and
Sam Houston State. Her favorite thing about working with students is that most of them want to learn
and are very nice and thoughtful. She has eleven
dogs, two horses as well as Brahman cows! Her favorite quote is, “Hard work pays rich dividends.” In
one word, she thinks CMS is ‘AWESOME’!
Monster Mash Dance, on Sat. Nov 1st. 7pm
- 10pm for all middle school students. Wear
your costume! There will be door prizes, a
best costume prize and a "Thriller " dance
competition. Students need to get their
groups together and start practicing! There
will be a variety of food and drinks for sale
and also a "haunted photo booth" with crazy
pictures of students to be purchased.
If you can help, we are in need of pumpkins
and decorations to be donated for this event.
Coach Alex Cloudy is new to the CMS campus, but not to
Center ISD. He grew up in Center, graduating from CHS in
2009. He is an East Texas Baptist University Alumni. His
mother is CMS Assistant Principal, Felicia Cloudy. Coach
Cloudy says CMS is an amazing place to be. His favorite
quote is, “It is what it is, until you MAKE it something
more!” We are always pleased to see our CHS grads
come back to their hometown to make a difference in the
lives of our students. Welcome, Coach Cloudy!

Behind the Scenes at CMS
Before our school year started this year, there was a lady working very hard to
make sure our classrooms and hallways were ready for students. She did
whatever she was asked to do with a smile on her face. Linda Tijerina is one
of our custodians at CMS. This is the second year she has been taking care
of CMS. Linda has two girls and three boys, and a total of 18 grandchildren
and one great grandchild. She says she really enjoys the people at CMS, and
the staff is so nice to her. She shared her least favorite thing to do is clean
the bathrooms!
Linda shared some pretty interesting stories with Mrs. Andrews and myself. If
you see Linda around the campus, ask her to give you some details!

40 BOOK CHALLENGE has been issued by
Sharon Rice, CMS Reading Academy
teacher. Students have been challenged
to read 40 books this school year. Students choose the books they wish to read
and afterwards, write a letter to Mrs. Rice
about the book, discussing his/her feelings about the book. Students meeting
their goal will be invited to a celebration at
the end of the school year.
6th Grade UIL preparation has begun! Sharon
Rice is assisting Toni Ford this year and has
been assigned to organize sixth grade events.
Mrs. Rice asks parents to encourage their sixth
graders to get involved! For information about
different events, visit www.uiltexas.org and click
on ‘Academics’, ‘A+Academics’, then ‘Events’.
Please email [email protected] if you
have questions. Tryouts for events will begin
soon.
Coach Stephanie Morgan wants to remind
everyone there are only two games left in
girls’ volleyball this season. October 20
game will be played in Jasper, and our last
home game will be October 27 against
Diboll. This year’s team has worked hard,
learned a lot, and are getting better each
week. We will finish the season strong
and begin basketball season only a couple of weeks after volleyball. Come out
and support our CMS girls!

Attention Parents:
Students not up to date on their immunizations have until Friday October 24th to
do so. The state of Texas requires students to either receive their immunizations at school or provide an up to date
shot record from a doctor. Parents must
provide permission to have shots administered at school.

to learn music and has
become a better trumpet
player. Jasmine is just a
joy to be around.
Raylee Wilburn is known
for her wonderful disposition. She is dedicated to
twirling and works very
